One comment on salmon: the nutritional info you got is probably based on wild-caught salmon. However, a lot of salmon (especially the more-affordable stuff) is farmed these days. The nutritional profile of farmed salmon will depend heavily on what they're fed (which may vary from place to place) and feed may also introduce contaminants not present in wild fish.

Love your videos Talon You've done a great job of tackling the nutrient profiles of the major food groups. I personally would love to see a video that focuses on the anti-nutrients present in our food, which I feel like are often overlooked and not as well understood. I know you mention them in multiple videos (eg fruits, vegetables, legumes), but I think there's a level of nuance to anti-nutrients, their sources and interactions (eg mitigating their effects with cooking, combining with vitamin C, etc) that I think deserves it's own dedicated video. Thanks for all your efforts in demystifying food and nutrition for us all :)

Avocado oil is supposedly pretty good too from what I've heard. Seed Oils have people freaking out but they really aren't that bad, or that great for you. Peanut oil will be lower due to having some saturated fats and other unwanted things, such as allergies. Fantastic list! Her doctors could not figure out her symptoms for years and she continued to eat the same diet. It was mercury poisoning all along and she will have complications for life. It goes to show how doctors need to ask about a patients diet first and foremost but also shows how necessary it is to eat a variety of foods.

Agreed, I was hoping to see walleye ranked on this list, as well as a few others. For instance, I've read that mackerel can vary widely in mercury content depending on where it is caught. Perhaps regional variations of particular fish could be considered for part 2. also, I've been looking around for evidence of sardines being high in omega-6 after watching this and I really haven't come across anything making the same claim other than sardines packed in soybean oil may offset the benefit of the omega-3s in the sardines themselves.. hmm. Good info and good presentation, overall. It would be good to see information on PCB, PFOS and microplastics contamination as well as mercury, though it may be harder to find good data. I have generally seen that farm raised salmon may be high in PCBs, so I go for wild salmon. Also, I am a bit more leery of mercury, so swordfish would be a no go (f tier) for me. Similarly, while mackerel is low in mercury, king mackerel is very high, so it’s easy to get tripped up by things like that. One other small thing: though anchovies are great, they tend to be prepared with lots of salt which might be an issue for those trying to cut back on salt. Just some minor feedback. Thanks for putting together these helpful videos.

I think the lists aren't necessarily focused on healthy food so much as whole singular foods/ingredients. Processed food like fast food would be hard to do a tier list for, because they vary so much by how they're processed and what ingredients are included. When we say "french fries", are we talking about baked, fried in peanut oil, smothered in cheese, or what? They could all be pretty different. Even if you mean to refer to a single restaurant's menu vs. another restaurant's menu, many places have both healthier items and unhealthy items, so it'd be hard to make a comparison without limiting it to a single item on the menu across restaurants (like french fries).

Thank you for all the work you put into this. It is difficult to classify different species of marine organisms by common name because different localities have different names for the same fish and some varieties, like mackerel, have 4 varieties just in my local waters. Also anchovy just means small fish, I know it has come to refer to the salt cured fish used in Italian cuisine and perhaps they are not picky about the species but I would think that would make it difficult to analyze. Can you cover how much seafood you can eat per week and not be at risk from heavy metals? I have researched this and can’t find any solid information. Most recommendations are to limit to 2 servings per week, but the amount of heavy metals varies from food source to food source, so how can a blanket 2 a week recommendation make sense when some sources have 10x the mercury as others. Also, you see health influencers eating seafood daily and not experiencing any health issues. I would love to add more tuna to my diet, but don’t due to fear of heavy metals. A deep dive into this would be super useful.

Don't forget about n-3 DPA 22:5n-3 docosapentaenoic acid. This is an important omega 3. Also keep in mind about bottom feeder fish, such as catfish, containing harsh substrates or chemicals from polluted waters. I'd also like to add that since tilapia live in such close quarters and tend to eat their own feces. They are typically not the best option. Several studies show these fish have a higher level of trans fat and AA. Oh, and arsenic is a common issue in many canned/tinned fish. Where mercury is low arsenic is often high.

Yes, those are very important factors. Also plastic pollution would have been relevant to mention.

ALA and EPA are converted to DHA in the body (though very poorly) the only thing that produces DHA is Algae, all of the fish that have this get it from algae or get it from eating something else that got it from algae. DHA is currently seen as by far the most important, and found in equal amounts as DPA in breast milk. DPA is possibly better absorbed by humans (no studies confirm, they speculate and mention it, but it isn't concrete) and DPA also gets found in some other mammals which makes it more available similar to ALA (in seeds) DPA will be found in the same fish with DHA so that's good for all of his list. All in all, algae needs to be cultivated by humans because it's important and most people don't get enough omegas. As far as I see EPA -> DPA -> DHA so the main benefit of DPA is it may get absorbed far easier, and then converted.
@londonmm2 жыл бұрын
@@gg-gn3re EPA is equally as important as DHA in the scientific community. They have synergistic roles and support different functions. DPA is fairly unstable and normally not found as is in the body. It is converted from EPA or made in a lab. DHA is also found in grass fed meats and dairy, nut just algae.

You didn't cover hardly any sort of "game" fish here. Other than the Bass everything on this list is commercially farmed or fished. Maybe make a whole seperate video on a tier list of wild foods, like wild berries and herbs and wild game meat and fish. That would be super cool.

Can you do a video on how much of each thing you need and explaining how you find how much you need, I am trying to build a chart with as much food as I can with all the nutrients amounts I want to be precise with it. Im going to us this chart to build my diet and help a lot of my friends with there health, and possibly be able to sell the chart so each family can resort to the chart and find out what nutrients they are missing in there diet. Thanks for you time and all the videos you have they are what’s giving me hope right now.

@@ironsotg9490 you don't get it do you, it would make it easier to add this listing rather than have to calculate it individually. Are you fucking kidding me? Fats are 9 calories per gram, alcohol is 7, protein is 4, and carbs are 4. If you have 25grams of protein from 100 grams of fish, that's 100 calories from protein. If you have 75 grams of fat in 100 grams of fish, you have nearly 700 calories from fat, giving a total of 800 calories in 100 grams. It says this in the packaging of basically all good

@bobjohnson16332 жыл бұрын
Most carbs are bad for you. Fats from animals are good for you. There you go. Extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil are the only plentiful and healthy replacements for animal fats. For carb sources, there is the amount of sugar per serving, then there is the amount of water and fiber which negates the health effects of the sugar. Water and fiber reduce the speed that you digest it, which is better. Juice is equal to a can of coke. Whole potatoes are hard to digest. Mashed potatoes, are easy to digest. Green vegetables are very low in calories, but very high in toxins to prevent animals from eating them. If you are 50% of your calories in spinach or broccoli for 1 month, you die from poisoning. Less sugar is better. More fiber is better. Less vegetables is also better. Seed oils, or anything high in linoleic acid is poison you should never ever eat.

In Australia, we are offered Whiting, and probably shark meat, Dory (or John Dory), Barramundi. We get tinned mussels in oil, or sauce, which are very small but a great snack- same with oysters- fresh are very expensive. Herring likewise (tinned in sauce). Are these tinned fish as nutritious as fresh? Love your work, and thank you for the study you have put into all these foods, and for sharing with us.😊😊

Talon you should make a 2 part video series for people trying to bulk and people trying to loose weight were you lay out a meal plan based for the week and talk about why you chose those foods you did. Think it would be a good idea seeing as I was very confused when I first started trying to bulk and knowing what ingredients to buy for meals.
