I got uterine cancer 6 months ago and asked oncologist about diet. Oncologist told me to lose weight by eating less of everything and follow the government's healthy eating guidelines. Imagine my surprise while researching to find out that advice is not optimal!!! I need to eat high vegetable, no added fats, minimally processed, vegan diet with added herbs, spices. Sigh, we need better education for patients and doctors in regards to nutrition. Thankfully Dr. Greger and others like him are trying.

My former family doctor shared with me that her and her husband, who was also a physician, would eat broccoli every night for dinner as a side with their meal. Unfortunately, her husband was recently diagnosed with cancer. I’m sure broccoli is beneficial, but it’s not a definite that you will never get cancer.

A suggestion. Instead of the cartoon of your good self, perhaps just show relative graphs, pictures or info cards etc to what you're speaking about at the time. That way we don't have to pause the video so much to study the graphics which interrupts your speech. Or just the graphic from your podcast would suffice. No need for a talking head if you can't spare the time from your busy schedule to film yourself. Just my two bob :) Anyway, always happy to hear anything from your apparently bottomless font of knowledge! May you continue your helpful healing ways for many more decades.

I have a question: from what I understand, as a post-menopausal woman, I need a good amount of (good) fat to help regulate my hormones. So is it more important to eat cruciferous vegetables and not worry about the fact I'm getting 35% of calories from fat? I'm confused. I mean, you can eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables and a lot of fat as well. It doesn't seem like Dr. Greger mentioned studies that pointed to a combination of the veg along with a low fat diet at the same time, did he?

Yes there is, but only if you are avoiding iodine altogether your body need iodine regardless of your health state of your Thyroid, try starting supplementing Iodine in very small doses. If too many side effects, stop and start B2, B3 (nutritional yeast) + selenium ca. 2 Brazil nuts a day. For about two weeks then start low and slow iodine again (algae) and try to increase. Once you get enough iodine the cruciferous veggies don’t do any harm anymore. Btw. Iodine is essential for good health.
