It's so unkind of those people to restrict Dr. Greger by complaining about his treadmill habit. He stopped because he doesn't like hurting people. Yet all they had to do is just listen to the Q&A and not look at the phone. Dr Greger is more thoughtful than they are.

One can also take cucumber, squash and pumpkin seeds, leaving them in the hull, then marinate them in various spices, olive juice, dill pickle juice, soy sauce, turmeric, garlic ... to soften the hulls for several months in the fridge. I then bake them in a slow 250°F oven for several hours. Let them cool as they keep well in the fridge.

Dr. Michael Greger thanks for your answers. There are many studies and Meta-Analysis regarding the effect of supplementation of EPA/DHA and brain Health but with very mixed and conflicting results. Often I have the impression that the recommendation is more seen as a kind of insurance. If a plant based food eater is able to achieve a Omega 6 to Omega 3 Ratio of 3 (average of usual western diet is above 10) shouldn’t this level be sufficient to generate enough EPA/DHA. As we all know brain health depends on many other factors like sport, other risk factors etc. I would be very interested to see a study with people with Omega 6 to 3 ratios around 3, good lifestyle and healthy. Does this person still need to supplement? What are the studies you are referring to?

@sunnygirl5467
@sunnygirl5467 Күн бұрын
When dry roasting foods that are high in protein and fat (nuts, meats, tofu) AGEs form which cause free radicals. Meat is definetely the worst, because it forms the most, so tofu is definetely better. It would be better to cook the tofu in some sort of liquid, but it's not going to kill you if you airfry it, definetely better than frying it in oil too.

Dr Greger thinks that 0.8 g/kg of protein is ok for an athlete. But sports societies recommend 1.2 or 1.6 grams or more, specially if they are trying to do hypertrophy or speed up recovery. So I don’t understand why Greger is so sure that 0.8 is fine for athletes and why he gets so surprised with that 2.0 number....

When I scale up the Daily Dozen to my required 3,000 calories/d, I get 1.4 g/kg of protein as a lean 180 lb male. To bring my protein down to your recommended 0.8 g/kg, should I limit the Daily Dozen to 40% of my diet and only fruit for 60%. Unfortunately, Dr. Greger does not seem interested in addressing this question. I come here for nutrition facts.
@mattzilla331
@mattzilla331 2 күн бұрын
It's been answered before. Just simply don't double the beans. If you need more calories just choose rice or potatoes. You're overthinking it. Daily dozen is just a guide. Not hard rules. He has videos on this explaining that. Don't worry about it.
@jakubchrobry3701
@jakubchrobry3701 2 күн бұрын
@@mattzilla331 You said the same thing last month, Matt. You obviously haven't given this much thought. Please don't reply to me again. I don't need your Joe Rogan/Tim Pool stupidity. You simply don't understand the issue. Beans are calorie dense foods. Calorie dense plants are also high in protein. There is absolutely no way I can eat more than 3,000 calories of fruits, celery and carrots. That's too much volume. Every dinner for me is like Thanksgiving dinner. I have to stuff myself; and you're telling me I have to get rid of the beans and tofu. Those are the most healthy foods. Dr. Greger simply needs to come to terms that his Daily Dozen is not consistent with his low protein recommmendations. That's the whole point. We need nutrition facts, not nutrition BS. So don't tell me I'm overthinking it. That's so arrrogant.
@mattzilla331
@mattzilla331 2 күн бұрын
@@jakubchrobry3701 I never said "get rid of" beans and tofu. If you need more calories but the volume is too much than drink fruit juice. There's no protein there. Add table sugar. Walter Kempner had ppl on his rice diet add table sugar as a way to add calories without protein. Again Daily Dozen is just a guideline. Most ppl aren't eating 3000+ calories a day to maintain a healthy weight. Yes when you eat more calories you will automatically eat more protein. So find non protein sources of calories. Dr mcdougall recommended fruit juice to help stop weightloss or if you needed to gain weight. Also to switch to white flour products like white bread white pasta to reduce fiber so you can eat more calories.

Anyways… Dr Greger thinks that 0.8 is ok for an athlete. But maybe athletes really need like 1.6 or more, specially if they are trying to do hyper trophy or speed up recovery. So I don’t understand why Greger is so sure that 0.8 is fine for athletes….
@jakubchrobry3701
@jakubchrobry3701 Күн бұрын
@@ronnie3440 I have never seen Dr. Greger comment on the optimal amount of protein for young bodybuilders or young athletes wanting to gain muscle mass and strength. All the videos I see are about being vegan as an athlete, which is not the same thing since a vegan athlete can easily get 1.6 g/kg or more of protein. Dr. Greger does have a recent video specifically on protein and age-related muscle loss. This is different than young athletes because as we age, leucine loses its ability to activate mtor, so older adults have to primarily rely on resistance training to gain and maintain muscle (and amino acids mainly become building blocks and not stimulators of hypertrophy). Even as a young athlete you can build muscle with only 0.8 g/kg, but you will have to cite where Dr. Greger claims that a young athlete can gain muscle as fast as someone consuming twice that amount. And remember athletes are not constantly wanting to gain muscle. Muscle gain is typically done during off-season because it's too fatiguing during the season. Athletes typically use ice baths to recover which is counterproductive to hypertrophy.
