I still come across plenty of people that say that eggs are healthy, because they contain lots of protein. When I reply that eggs contain too much cholesterol and zero fibre, it goes in one ear and out the other and they regard me as some kind of crank. Just goes to show, it's more difficult to convince someone that they've been fooled than to fool them in the first place.

Fibre isn't a criteria for "good food" it's just something you have to accomodate if any food you eat is lacking. Re cholesterol there is good and there is bad, I very much doubt the cholesterol in eggs is the bad one since we've had thousands of years to evolve around it so I wouldn't be easily persuaded.

It can also develop by non dietary means but for some reason X gets the blame just because of statistical correlation, because most people eat X. So I'm not convinced. The types of fat in the diet help determine the amount of total, HDL, and LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream. The types and amount of carbohydrate in the diet also play a role. Cholesterol in food matters, too, but not nearly as much. The discovery half a century ago that high blood cholesterol levels were strongly associated with an increased risk for heart disease triggered numerous warnings to avoid foods that contain cholesterol, especially eggs and liver. However, scientific studies show a weak relationship between the amount of cholesterol a person consumes and his or her blood cholesterol levels (22) In studies of more than 80,000 female nurses, Harvard researchers found that consuming about an egg a day was not associated with higher risk of heart disease. (4, 23) However, people who have heart disease or diabetes should monitor egg consumption. For most people, the amount of cholesterol eaten has only a modest impact on the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood. (24) For some people, though, blood cholesterol levels rise and fall very strongly in relation to the amount of cholesterol eaten. For these “responders,” avoiding cholesterol-rich foods can have a substantial effect on blood cholesterol levels. Unfortunately, at this point there is no way other than by trial and error to identify responders from non-responders to dietary cholesterol.

Eating eggs increases the risk of dying from heart disease, according to research published in Circulation. Researchers compared egg and cholesterol consumption and blood cholesterol levels with death from cardiovascular disease in over 27,000 participants and conducted a systematic review of existing research. Eating one egg per day significantly increased the risk of dying from heart disease. Higher blood cholesterol levels and higher intakes of dietary cholesterol were also associated with an elevated risk of death from heart disease. These findings support limiting dietary cholesterol intake for improved heart health. A 2021 study found that the addition of half an egg per day was associated with more deaths from heart disease, cancer, and all causes. For every 300 milligrams of dietary cholesterol consumed per day, mortality risk increased by up to 24%. A study published in JAMA found that that each 300 milligram dose of dietary cholesterol was associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease and mortality by 17% and 18%, respectively. When it came to eggs, each half egg caused a 6% and 8% increased risk, respectively. A study in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology found that those who eat the most eggs have a 19% higher risk for cardiovascular problems.

What has never made sense to me is if cholesterol is a bad actor then why is it required and critical for the body and why would the total cholesterol median value world wide be roughly 225 ml/dl and yet you vegans try to eliminate it largely. Makes more sense that the profit motive by pharma and the low fat diet craze starting in the 80s is driving a now archaic narrative and that narrative being true or not is what the nutricianal aspect of Veganism is predicated upon so you largely dont care because it supports your agenda. Anyone with even a modicum of sense can see what habitually consuming ultra processed high glycemic, high fat food made primarily from grain, sugar snd seed oils is damaging our whole food digestive system, because you cant flood the liver habitually with pure fuel sugar and fat and not cause disease and dysfunction. Its this pure fuel then adding animal profucts just compounds the over consumption of calories in general. Cholesterol gets blamed just like animal products get blamed because one of cholesterols jobs is repair and so when you habitually damage the linings of the arteries with glucose and high insulin cholesterol has to fix the damage habitually until the artery is plugged. Its why diabetics have far higher odds of heart attacks snd strokes, blindness and amputations just to name a few. Nature designed animal, vegetable and fruit and carnivores constitute 60% of the planets animals and yet you think it was nature that made a mistake and made eating other animals by carnivores and omnivores as the source for disease and yet humans and our pets are the only animals on the planet eating processed grain and oil and the only animals getting metabolically dysfunctional, diseased and obese. It must be the meat 🤣. Why dont you go brush your teeth the animal foods are rotting your mouth not the grain and starch foundation diet

@BM1982.V2
@BM1982.V2 Жыл бұрын
That's pretty crazy to say there is a definitive cause and effect here. From studies crohns disease is more likely with higher meat consumption and many case studies of people going plant based going into remission however we don't know the exact causes so there could have been something else completely unrelated to diet in the case of your husband. Hypotheses include environmental toxins so it may not always be diet related. As for losing your period, that's a common thing for people not eating enough calories. It happens to some people who go plant based because they eat similar volumes of food as before but not accounting for the lower caloric density of plant foods. If you actually watch Gregor he recommends eating a wide variety of both calorie dense and caloric sparse foods. You do need to eat a balance of both. Eating plant based doesn't cause you to lose your period but it's easier to not eat enough on a plant based diet. This tells me you likely were not eating enough. Anyone switching should always track their calories for the first while to ensure this doesn't happen. Endometriosis also has no known cause but from studies it looks like there are some risk factors which include totally non diet related things like never giving birth, starting your period at a younger age, heavy menstrual cycles, late menopause, short menstrual cycles. The diet related risk factors I see are eating meat, or not eating enough fibre. Eating more fruits and veggies shows a decreased risk, dairy decreases risk which they think may be because of vitamin d or calcium, and fish oil showed decreased risk. Eating whole foods plant based you'd have some of those decreased risk factors but not all. But it seems any dietary risk factor seems to influence at most 10% only so the more important risk factors are the non dietary factors and may even be genetic. People on plant based diets have a lower risk so in your case it's probably something else that caused it. To say eating plant based caused it is pretty bold when there is zero science to support that and much of science saying the opposite. Eating the healthiest foods and exercising regularly doesn't make you invincible. What it does is lower risk but that doesn't mean you have zero risk. Vegans get diseases at lower rates but that doesn't mean they never get any diseases no matter how healthy you eat. Every study in the world shows eating plant based leads to less prevalance and better health outcomes for almost every disease. Some diseases fish eaters do slightly better but overall mortality plant based always wins. You named 2 diseases that science shows lower rates of with plant based diets and losing your period which is a symptom of not enough calories. Both those diseases may have still happened eating any diet and losing your period you could have prevented by eating a bit more volume.

@mushmi OK, eating no fat or protein is not a balanced vegan diet and Dr. Gregor promotes eating something more balanced. McDougal and Graham more promote diets with less protein and fat with 80/10/10. Gregor is more balanced so that tells me you weren't eating like he recommends. There are hundreds of different ways to eat a vegan diet. You can be high fat, high protein, low fat, low protein, and everything in-between. Many people that do struggle are not eating a balanced diet. If you go extreme to any position then yes you will likely have some issues. Also, I didn't say nobody that eats vegan for a while can develop crohns. I said the rates are lower but not zero. That doesn't mean being vegan caused crohns as vegans have a lower likelihood of developing it. The true cause is unknown but there are many non diet related things that can increase risk. There is no cause and effect shown with vegan diets. There isn't even a correlation shown with it. There's just some anecdotes. You know some people that don't smoke get lung cancer, does that mean not smoking causes lung cancer? That's the exact same logic your using. Not smoking reduces your risk but it doesn't eliminate it. Same thing as eating vegan, it reduces risk but doesn't eliminate it. Vegans aren't invincible despite studies showing they live longer with less disease.

A lot of nonsense in this video. What makes up the bulk of dietary cholesterol is esterified cholesterol (fatty acid + cholesterol), which has to be broken down by lipases from the pancreas before becoming free cholesterol in your intestines. Did you know most free cholesterol in your small intestine comes from the liver, and not from the food. If there’s an excess of free cholesterol in the blood it gets removed through a certain transporter and put back into the lumen of your small intestine where it gets either reabsorbed or goes towards the exit, let me explain. How much of free cholesterol is absorbed is dependent on the amount of the receptor ‘Niemann-Pick-c1 Like protein’ (cholesterol influx protein) you have in your lumen, if you have a genetically low amount of these you’ll basically absorb nothing and if you have a high amount you’re a hyperabsorber of free cholesterol and you will probably have heightened cholesterol levels no matter what you eat, because remember what I said, most of that free cholesterol comes from your liver which on average produces 2000mg of cholesterol per day so you will always have plenty regardless of your diet. Then there is the ‘ATP binding cassette Transporter G5’ and ‘G8’ which work in the other direction. If they notice you take up too much cholesterol, these transporters will move the surplus of free cholesterol from the blood back into the lumen. It’s again genetic how much of these transporters you have, as you can guess if you have a low amount of these your cholesterol will be high. If you have a high amount of these, you will have a low cholesterol. It therefor hardly matters how much dietary cholesterol you take in (unless were talking 10 eggs a day), the amount of HDL/LDL depends on your genes and dietary cholesterol hardly makes an impact in the average person. And even then there’s another mechanism where the liver will lower it’s own production of free cholesterol when there’s already a lot of free cholesterol in the bloodstream (negative feedback loop). In conclusion; high Nieman-pick-c1 like protein + low atp binding cassette transporter g5/g8, better stay away from dietary cholesterol and congratulations on your statin subscription. For all other people, you can easily eat 5 eggs a day.

The issue lies in the fact that individuals who follow a balanced diet, rich in whole fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat, dairy, and eggs, tend to adopt a more holistic approach to caloric restriction and exercise. As a result, they often experience positive outcomes in their blood work. On the other hand, individuals who engage in similar practices but also consume excessive amounts of unhealthy food are at higher risk and tend to exhibit poor blood work. While a high intake of cholesterol can be risky, it is mitigated by a simultaneous high intake of dietary fiber. Consequently, individuals who adhere to a well-rounded diet often have healthier triglyceride levels compared to those following a strictly whole-food, plant-based diet. This observation contradicts some scientific findings but remains true in practice. Nutrition can be quite dogmatic, so it is advisable to adopt a balanced approach, be mindful of thresholds, engage in regular exercise, occasionally fast, maintain adequate hydration, prioritize quality sleep, and manage stress. By doing so, everything should fall into place.

Eggs aren't allowed to be advertised as "healthy", "safe", “nutritious” etc. which should tell you how unhealthy they really are. They contain around 373mg of cholesterol and the RDA is 300mg. I reckon that's Nature's way of telling us to avoid them! If you're looking for nutrient-rich foods, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds are high in nutrients but contain few or no negatives.

The video mentions this if you paid attention. Fasting cholesterol eggs don't raise that much, postprandial cholesterol it raises a lot which causes inflammatory damage over time. When you have your LDL levels checked it's almost always in a fasted state so you are probably right that your fasting LDL cholesterol is fine but that doesn't mean the damage isn't being caused within the first 4 hours after every meal...

@@BM1982.V2you got the Drain damage. Why dont you go brush your teeth the animal foods are rotting your mouth not the grain and starch foundation diet.

Animal derived Dietary cholesterol does not = heart disease it is metabolic syndrome and liver disease due to metabolic syndrome that causes oxidized LDL or also known as small LDL that causes heart disease along with elevated levels of glucose and insulin that causes inflammation of the arteries that cause heart disease. Your body produces (liver and brain) LDL every cell in your body need LDL and cholesterol to survive just cut out the the sugar, the refined carbohydrates , and industrial seed oils . On the other note you really want to see the bad guys check out big pharma and big food. There lies the real problem of human health and mortality.

@@redauwg911 understood. But there is no way of telling if those who didn't eat eggs would not develop heart disease. I'm not arguing with the studies. All I'm saying is that we really don't know. What about all the people in the study that ate excessive amounts of eggs and did not develop heart disease? Just asking questions. That's what science is, questioning everything. Also I'm Sure these were epidemiology studies because you can't lock people in rooms and make them eat a certain way.
@Chunkable999
@Chunkable999 Жыл бұрын
@@redauwg911 The problem with epidemiological studies is that they correlative at best and often based on self report, survey style questionnaires. This is hardly a controlled research study. If you are not controlling the variables you can not say for sure if there is a causal relationship. This is the problem with using studies and research to convince people are not capable of critically analyzing the faults of a particular study. Most people seem to think that if a correlation is claimed in a study that it is a hard fact, which highlights the laypersons lack of critically assessing research studies and the limitations they may have. It is easy to cherry pick research studies that may back up ones argument. If you can find a epidemiological study to support your argument, unless the opposing argument is off the wall chances are you will also find some that support the opposing argument. Take this statement for instance: "2021 study found that the addition of half an egg per day was associated with more deaths from heart disease, cancer, and all causes." ALL causes include accidental death, yes? So If I eat half an egg a day I am more likely to die from an accidental death? Is that the eggs fault? You would have to say yes, according to this study. Because the results are simply correlative. We can blame the egg as much for car crash deaths as much as cardio vascular or cancer deaths. When you look at it that way, it seems kind of stupid, right?

Eggs are not super high in saturated fat but they are high in cholesterol. If the argument is about whether cholesterol is associated with heart disease more than unsaturated fats from oils, then the answer is yes, it is. Most health organisations, heart associations etc still recommend limiting cholesterol based on the totality of evidence.
