REVERSE DIETING - How to stop Optavia without regaining lost weight:
1. Calculate your maintenance calories: bit.ly/2oQLXTY
2. Add up the number of calories you eat per day on average.
3. First thing next morning before eating/drinking, get your baseline fat mass and lean mass: bit.ly/30yGj7B
4. Aim to eat calories you calculated in step 2 + 200 calories/day for 1 week.
5. At end of week, repeat step 3. If your fat mass change ≤ lean mass change, you're good.

I’ve been on optavia for 1 week and have lost 12 lbs while retaining and building muscle mass (I box and lift daily) hopefully I continue to lose weight at this rate!

@@marc_alan I plateaued and stopped decided to do research found out my daily maintenance and I ate healthy normal food and counted calories and started working out and started fasting and I’ve lost over 40 lbs

You will until you can not afford it. Did you know you are only consuming 850 calories. It's just whey protein and you can buy a big can at Costco for 40 dollars and it would last got 4 months. You don't need to go hungry or eat gross food. Network marketing won't keep your body healthy and you can never stop.

I did Optavia for 12 months and lost 74 lbs. Unfortunately I did plateau and start having muscle loss. I went off and have gained it all back. I realize that I need to deal with the psychology around food. While it did do the job, I would not go on it again.

You need to eat food, the right food. That's the problem. Stop dieting. That will push you into Diabetes faster that five coke per day. Give your body the food it needs, and the amount. Look up Dr. Jason Fung

These reviews are very unbiased. Too low of a deficit for me. Slow progress with progress is better than fast progress with a large rebound. Keep up the good work you are doing

Glad you pointed out that these plans set a calorie target that is incredibly low. Love that you cited the Minnesota study! I often share that study with clients to demonstrate the physiological and psychological impacts on extreme deprivation and restriction. 🙌🏼

I just started Optavia 5-1, and I eat around 1200 calories per day. I don’t think the 800-1000 calories is accurate.

Thank you! Great tips. Like all other diets - stop doing the diet, then most have weight gain, because we didn’t learn the science. I have been low carb / keto for 3 years. It is a lifestyle. I learn new things by researching stuff almost daily, thru books and KZbin. Sounds like you guys are wonderful educators!❤️

So how can a review be legitimate or be taken seriously when at the end you're just pushing your own agenda/money making scheme? It invalidates the opinions posed.

Michele, because of two things: 1. We are not even targeting the same audience. If you really want weight loss meal delivery service as your solution, our program is not a fit at all. Each solution out there maps to a certain set of needs and each are valid. No solution covers every need. It's a travesty that folks don't understand how to map their needs to the right solutions and think all the solutions are interchangeable, and that's something we intend for our reviews to help clarify. 2. Just because we have our own solution does not mean we can't be objective about other solutions. Your comment assumes we see this as a zero sum game, where "if they win, we lose" presumably because you see businesses that way. If you lose weight no matter which solution you use, the weight loss industry as a whole wins. That's how we see things. Obesity as a market should not exist just like polio as a market does not exist. Everyone is trying their best to help the epidemic in the best way they know how - but no one solution is the right solution for everyone. This is why if you watch our other reviews like Noom vs WW, DASH, etc., and read the comments, you'll notice majority comments saying they are actually going to try those solutions because we have an unbiased analysis and leave it to the viewers to make their own decision (we never presume to know what's the right decision for you - we believe only you can make that decision), and those programs held up for the commentors. For those who succeeded in other programs, we are happy for them. Hope this clarifies things.

It is her business. All she had to do to become an optavia coach was to buy the kit. Take a one day course and exam. And she became a health coach. A few hundred dollars to get her business started at optavia. The whole thing is a pyramid type, mlm marketing scheme.

I did Optavia twice. Once in 2016 lost 34 lbs. Then in 2019 lost 50lbs. Both times I gained weight back even MORE after I quit. It was discouraging. Now I'm close to 220lbs after being 180lbs when i started and my metabolism is so slow. I also gained anxiety and depression idk if from the hormonal changes while dieting. I have friends who are coaches, and the program works if you stick to it. BUT beware it's SO easy to gain weight again. That was my experience

I'm in a similar boat as you. Which is why I ended up viewing this video. I have never been able to successfully transition off of these plans without gaining not only what I lost back but even more. I also DON'T want to live on pre packaged anything for the rest of my life. Good luck to both of us!!!

Family friends on this diet and I’m scared for them. I was vegan for 2 years and now vegetarian and they told me I’m stupid and need meat lol. I get 160g daily, get 1800 calories and I’m decent in training. I feel like they will suffer if they don’t listen to anyone. This is some scary stuff.

I have been on this Plan for 7 weeks! I have lost 18.3 pounds great but I noticed I was flabby. I got an Inbody test done at the Fitness Center to Find that I have lost 4% of Muscle Mass! Unreal! Super Sad I will NOT continue and will be returning all this!! NOT HEALTHY

One of my friends is an Optavia health coach. She’s always trying to get me to give it a chance. It seems wildly unhealthy to me and wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. Extreme calorie restriction and over processed foods is not a healthy way to lose weight as far as I’m concerned. I worry about my friend because she never “transitioned” and is still eating that crap and gaining weight. And she actually still believes in the program. It’s nuts.

Thank you guys for doing this. I asked you to review this because I'm just getting off the plan. Positive is that it made me cook for the first time in my life and the healthy habits book made me learn some important things. However, after 8 weeks (and 18lbs down), I stopped losing. I know I've slowed my metabolism down and I'm almost afraid of food because I love the way I look. It's funny you said reverse dieting bc I just read about that and plan on giving it a try. Now that I've started adding food back, I'm losing again bc my body isn't storing it... I didn't lose muscle on this plan though. I actually gained it. I was surprised. Maybe bc all the protein?

Protein certainly helps preserve muscle. How do you know though you didn't lose muscle? Generally it's impossible to not lose some muscle with some fat after the first few weeks in a deficit.

@@amandaholk7869 visibly larger muscles? I doubt it. More likely you got dehydrated because your kidneys had to flush out a lot of water to rid yourself of the excess protein.

My husband and i did optavia, we hated it. The food is so bland and so so so dang dry that i left like i was going to choke because it would stick to everything in my mouth. Some stuff i couldnt evem eat by the end of it because its just not good. We did lose weight, though. But we gained some back when we stopped. We did it for a little over a month and my husband lost 20lb. I lost 15

I’m pretty sure I saw a study that showed that there was minimal muscle loss w optavia. Also - honest question. Is this was that dangerous why is a physician in critical care recommending a plan that was designed at Johns Hopkins? Again. Honest question

We need a Dietitian who's actually tried the Optavia program rather than reading it and making comments. There are many MD and Dieticians that support this program. It's not going to be for everyone but it works for many both with immediate results and long lasting. This is obviously a SALE pitch 😂I'm not a Dietitian but my RD approved this program sure there are some cons as with any program but they were telling half-truths. I've been on the program for a month , lost 15lbs more importantly lost fat and retained muscle even gain more muscle with my exercise program. I am a psychotherapist and what they failed to mention is the education and coaching element. The "fuelings" are a small part of the program , I was impressed by the workbooks they have , my coaches, the weekly online trainings and emphasis on healthy habits. As a psychotherapist they got it right when discussing the mental battle. From the overall view this is the most comprehensive wellness and weightloss program I've researched.

@@DianaDenverRealEstate what health program is? and IF you have never followed through the program how would you know? Once Optimal weight is achieved a program is developed to introduce back into the fruits and vegetables again and the moderation which is key. Its all about a strong mindset, the program cant be blamed, it has literally saved my family members from obesity, high blood pressure, heart burn, and sore joints due to weight pressure. The program works the mind just has to be strong and want it.

How can a calorie-restricted diet that provides both minerals and vitamins as part of its program in addition to probiotics be worse than lap band surgery whose weight loss mechanism is also extreme calorie restriction? We all probably know someone who took that extreme surgical procedure and had fabulous results. This I think is worth a try before going in that direction for obese folks trying to find a path that is transformative sooner than later.

I didn't like all the processed stuff in the food (I refuse to call it fuelings). And then you aren't supposed to eat real foods, like a carrot. But people seem to love it. I'm one month and done, I believe. I didn't investigate enough before I started it.

Thank you for this review. I am waiting on my first month supply of prepackaged and concerned that I have made a huge mistake. The calorie deficit is now a huge concern for me. The last thing I want to do is loss my muscle mass which plays a huge part in my metabolism. I am not sure where I am going to go from here.

Mashunda, I did optavia for 5 months. The calorie deficit was not a problem. My doctor was thrilled when he saw me a month and a half into this program, and he was still thrilled when he saw me again after I reached my goal weight. My advice is to give it one honest month. See how you feel, check in with your doctor. Doing this was the best thing I've ever done for my health, and my clients who actually stick to the program feel the same way.

Another way is to say that as a health coach, I am uniquely qualified to answer one's concern because I have first-hand experience with the program that doesn't require me to guess, ponder, or wonder whether or not a person can do it, go though it, and see it through to their goal. Both as someone who lived the experience and guided others to do the same. Also, I don't use KZbin to search for potential clients (if i did, I'd use my name instead of an AOL screenname from the 90s), so I literally have nothing to gain by lying to you. I don't get paid to speak up for optavia anonymously on the internet.

You are not supposed to do cardio the first 3 weeks to allow your body to go into gentle fat loss and not starvation. Then you may introduce excercise gently and may have a snack or fueling during the days you excercuse more extrenuosly.

I am on Optavia right now, and it has been a lifesaver for me. I whole heartedly agree with most of the points you made, and I appreciate the effort you took to do the research and produce this video. I have been on Optavia for over 4 months, and I have heard so many stories of people losing the weight and gaining it back. I am concerned about that, so I am starting to sub out fuelings for real food even though I am in the weight loss phase. It has slowed down my weight loss, but, it feels like the right choice for me. I had been trying to lose weight for over a year before I started Optavia, and had become desperate and in great despair, so I am taking the negatives along with the positives. For me, it is as much of a mental health choice as it is a weight choice. My emotions are so much more level now, and I feel so much happier than I did before. Again, thank you for the additional information.

@@CoachViva Thank you for your kind and supportive words. In 2018, I lost 60 pounds using calorie counting, eating whole foods, drinking water and exercising. I went from 304 to 244 pounds. When I tried to repeat the process in 2019, I couldn't. It was as if the ability to use that simply, easy weight loss solution just left me, somehow. I went through a lot of really negative emotions in the process. i am glad something is working for me right now. My health is very important to me.

This was a great unbiased review. However one very LARGE component you missed was the support and the entire premise of the program is mindset. Changing your and implementing healthy habits for life. With that said if the clients don't do this part of the work then yes what you say is true. But if you follow it then you should be able to transition back into a regular routine and keep it off with the tips and tricks and mindset change that you worked for while you lost the weight.

Help report the mlm to BBB FTC and FDA. Long-term starvation will kill you eventually. None of the coaches are health professionals. Yes, it works until you run out of money then you gain it back and some people gain more.

They claimed their 'fuelings' are medically balanced, no mention of preservatives. I have no idea if trying that one bar (my co-worker lent me when I asked her what she'd done to lose her weight) was what caused the massive abdomen pain I had the following morning or not, but it was awfully coincidental.... Ended up almost going to ER, went to Dr instead thought I was having appendicitis the pain was so bad. The segment in this video about the gut problems has convinced me that these fuelings would cause me more stomach pain.

I just started Optavia. The day before I started I ate two bars and my stomach started hurting. The packet foods have probiotics in them. I think that’s what cause it with me

I just started two weeks ago and I wanted to order the three and three plan which is three package meals and three make your own meals. My coach is having a fit. Now I realize why because it’s definitely multi income level where you get paid more when your client orders more. I do believe I am going to go on the dash diet which does help weight loss because if you stop eating junk food basically and fatty foods. You eat more often on most diets which is six times a day which also helps maintain sugar level so you don’t get so hungry I kind of think I’m done

Thank you for your opinion but what is so sad is seeing people that I went to high school with reverse medical conditions through Optavia and then there are professionals out there like yourself casting light in a negative way, discourgaing people when literal lives can be saved. Any diet plan will fail when you go off of it. Thats is not new news. Yes its a business selling a product so yes there will be sales people. These "sales people" are coaches who call you often and make sure you are responding properly and will guide you through tough days, set backs and cravings. That support is priceless. Say what you will but truth is, evey plan has set backs and no one diet is 100% foolproof. You are trying to help people by sharing common knowledge disguised as breaking news when in fact your biased opinion is misleading at best. How about share some success stories, there are thousands...the nand ONLY then can you be considered neutral. Until then, you are playing the same game.

WOW very well said! They never mentioned the part where they encourage you to tell clients to speak to your Physician first, so its not all about money money, the coaches and the company care for these clients. Spot on with all diets have flaws, thats where picking up the healthy habits of moderate portions becomes ingrained especially the items that are high in carbs/sugars. So many wins as you stated on this program and life changing stories, this is another Video that tried to harm as much as possible for certain agendas to avoid lawsuits.

OPTAVIA does have reverse dieting so that a client is able to learn proper eating and still working with someone who can help you. Great to help people get off medications and be healthy. (Of course with a visit to primary care) I used to coach and had people off BP, cholesterol and diabetes meds and diabetes medications….it’s amazing but like everything else you have to want it and work for it!

@@CoachViva This is minor but the pronunciation is Ahp tah- veeah. There are more options for snacks than listed, you don't have to get approval from your coach that is part of the actual plan. Moving into maintenance isn't a set calorie level. You calculate your TDEE and they help you determine what your intake should be. Some people who don't want to count calories sort of feel it out adding a little more food or subtracting it as necessary according to how they're maintaining weight and how they feel. Generally, people who only have a little weight to lose should be pointed towards the 4 and 2 not the 5 and 1, also people who want to exercise beyond a moderate level. When I got close to my goal I switched to the 4 and 2 because my energy level was dropping but I was already at a healthy weight for a while before that happened. I stopped just short of an athletic BMI. You can have butter but in very small amounts and not every day. Also, the nutrition info you showed was from the Medifast line. They are discontinuing that line and the Optavia line is cleaner and more nutritionally complete. You do not need a multivitamin if you are doing the 3 and 3, 4 and 2, or 5 and 1. There is also a 5 and 2 plan for people who are really obese. I was moderately obese when I started, I lost 92 lbs and have felt great since a few weeks after starting except for that little period I mentioned above. All that said it was a pretty reasonable review, just a few inaccuracies.

I agree with you that the review feels reasonable despite those changes you pointed out because it's about the premise/science more than the logistical details, and that still remains the same.

@@CoachViva As far as the 5 and 1 goes, yes. However, people who I might point towards the 5 and 1 generally don't generally have the patience to do it the "best" way and have a lot of weight to lose. When you consider, the choice between doing the 5 and 1 and just continuing along your current path. The 5 and 1 could be a good option (I do recommend seeking the opinion of your Dr. as far as that goes) particularly if you're diabetic, pre-diabetic, or if you have a hard time exercising. IF you have a significant amount of weight to lose. However, it's important to remember the 4 and 2 is there if you'd prefer to lose weight without such a drastic calorie restriction. It's an effective if slower option (also lower priced). It's best paired with exercise though.

I have several friends that are doing Optavia and are doing great! A big part of the healing process isn’t just food it’s about your relationship with and what you think about food and think about yourself. If you stick to the plan and have a good coach and do the work you’ll learn that food is fuel it’s not where you go when you’re angry sad mad whatever healing comes spirit soul and body. This video was inaccurate about the fuelings no mention of the 24 vitamins minerals 11 grams of protein or probiotics in each fueling. The simple science behind losing weight is calorie deficit LOL impossible to burn off stored fat if you not in that state. Second they pushed their marketing agenda at the end so credibility has all gone out the window. SCAM video, FYI eating 6 small meals a day keeps a metabolism working not slowing it down, best way to eat is to have 6 small nutrient dense meals per day. When in a calorie deficit your body uses stored fat for energy, hence weight loss.

One the have not mentioned anything abiut all the vitamins that are actually in the food! 2. The cost actually saves you money on groceries ! 3. The people who gained weight back dis not follow the plan! They probably did not transition properly! They went back to eating horribly!!! Like the did before optavia! Yet notice the go into promoting there own plan! Yet optavia does teach you how to sustain and live a life of healthy eating just like the clams need a 30 minute video stating they do the exact same stuff as theirs beneficial where is the research data and bears of the people that came it back because they chose to go back to work early just like everyone to do not follow these healthy lifestyle choices

Optavia isn’t a diet. It is a Trans formative program that changes bad habits into good habits that lead to long-term healthy living Those who are doing the program correctly will have success. The food is only a tool to get one’s nutrition straightened out, in order to loose weight. The food is not the program. The video is misleading, plus they failed to mention the 24 vitamins and minerals that are in each serving. These vitamins are what brings a person into Optimal health.

While informational, you are not stating all the facts. While the calories are lower, each fueling has 20% of the nutrients you need in a day so having all 5 you get 100% of your nutrients

Not to mention isnt the simplest way to state losing weight a calorie deficit? Its impossible not to have calorie deficit and lose weight (stored fat). The products are nutrient dense with 11 grams of protein as well as probiotics so i have to agree you all weren't being honest, the approach was not upfront in this video.

First of all, you're not even pronouncing it right. Second, you obviously haven't read the info and labels, as probiotics are a big part of their program. Personally, I have no plan to do this plan because it is so freaking expensive. Instead, I'm finding equivalents and portioning it into baggies. I bet neither of you have ever been overweight. Have you ever weighed 30 pounds more than you do now? Something to think about. Frankly, Optavia, Medifast, and Nutrisystem are all very similar.
