7.3 IDI INJECTION PUMP REPLACEMENT.
In this video I show you how to remove and replace the injection pump on this 1990 7.3 IDI engine. I also walk you through swapping the fuel lines and fittings to the new pump. I also give you some tips and tricks on this job to make it go as easy as possible. I also tell you the easiest way to bleed the fuel system so you have no problem getting your truck running.

On my 93' E 350 van, the new pump had to go in without the injection lines on, there's no room for both above the engine because of the cab/short hood. And a wrench needs to be modified to get at the driver side mounting bolt down low, or the fuel filter housing has to come off. Much easier job on an E series if the cab is off.

@@jadinzack9271 actually installing them is not hard, the only problem is the plastic couplers under them leak. You will most likely have to replace them with all the rubber lines but installing all the lines to the injection pump and injectors is not actually hard. Thank you for watching.

Great video to build the confidence I need for doing mine. Maybe.. I'm fighting air getting in my filter head and I can't figure out how it's getting in there. New lift pump installed, checked the mid mount tank lines (I do not use the rear because of a leak in the tank) I removed the return line from the filter head to eliminate that possibility. I pressurized the tank and hear no leaks from lines and no wet areas. I'm struggling here.. Found it.. Bad tank selector valve.

So the way to check for air is to add clear line in place of solid line and watch for bubbles, and work your way back. I know its a pain but that is how you find it. Thanks for watching. Hit me up on Instagram if you have any other questions.

What I want to know is how to time the injection pump......i installed mine and alighned the timing marks and that's it.....but it's idling a bit rough though....no smoke at all either....great video though 💪

The injection pump just goes into a gear. Unless u removed that upper housing and moved the gear, the injection pump should be timed. The gear that the pump goes into is timed to camshaft. Running rough could be allot of things. Thank you for your comment.

@@NutsandBoltswithTone That's what I was watching for as well its a great video otherwise. However, the 3 studs that go through pump and hold it to the gear cover. (you can see it at 27:53 ) They go through elongated holes in the pump and the pump can be twisted a little to make timing adjustments. the tools to set timing are hard to find. I was hoping you had a trick.

I have a 93 IDI 7.3 with turbo and stsndatd trans seems like pump is specific to exactly that or is it just a matter of swapping parts from old one ? Thanks for video

I like your ratchet what brand is that? If your having fuel issue 1st check the hose coming from the tank it's a hard pipe , then it changes to a short 3/8 rubber hose to the fuel pump, It's close to the exhaust manifold and gets hot and brittle and leaks or sucks air. Mine is sucking air also from the return lines. Looks like you changed yours from the braided lines to gas line. Good idea. Thanks for the video. I'm going to look for the bleeding video.

How do you tighten the two bottom injector lines? Do you install all the hardline injector lines and tighten them outside before installing the the injection pump?

У меня лопнула трубка в месте где прикручивается к насосу. Самая нижняя пришлось открутить все и только тогда смог открутить и прикрутить нижнюю трубку очень неудобно и мучительно но мы сделали это не снимая насос) так как не нашел информации как настроить насос после установки. Поэтому снимать не стал. Спасибо за видио❤

Wish you would of had the camera on the right side just as you did when you had it out marking the sensor location and when you were filming at the 36:00 mark. On that side. The coolant hose blocked, I think, crucial steps in the removal.

@@royquesada5295 no there is no specific timing. The pump has a pin on the shaft that sticks out and the gear has a hole for the pin. It's easy to figure out.

@@NutsandBoltswithTone The ones the went on both ends of that feed line you disconnected from the fuel filter. You said it’d be best to buy those seals for replacement when doing the job

1990 my pink Irish ass! I have a 1990 and the glow plug relay is behind the air filter, not off to one side. Either this truck has had substantial changes because of the bank's turbo or it's not a 1990.

@@NutsandBoltswithTone yea i get it, an ounce of prevention solves a ton of heart ache though, i work primarily on old 2 stroke screamin Jimmy’s. Buses, trucks and other SAE equipment. Recently i had a newer diesel bus come in for maintenance and it was all metric.. i just ran to the local harbor freight for a couple metric socket sets to avoid any potential problems

The installation is exactly the reverse. It actually goes back in easier then coming out.
