When you remove the old tube seal put a new one right away. If you remove them all in one shot you'll forget to which side they sit and you may fit them up-side-down.

Friendly Suggestions: 1) remove power steering hose & put glove with zip tie to hold the liquid, put aside. 2) using flat screw driver twist open gently on both corners of the valve cover. 3) lift upwards gently. 4) Clean off old RTV gasket before putting new & use a small dot & the rest of the rail. 5) Use torque wrench & follow torque sequence according to repair manual. Most importantly: Use OEM gasket seals even if using aftermarket valve cover.

A few things, most important to leas important: MAKE SURE YOUR TRUST YOUR TORQUE WRENCH! 8.7 ft lb is not much! I stripped the threading in the engine block corresponding middle back nut. It felt like a lot of torque much but I kept going because it didn't click. It's not the end of the world but a huge hassle. 5 nuts correctly torqued (with a friends torque wrench) along with the hondabond liquid gasket have been holding the top and it's not leaking. To get in I will need to cut the nut off and rethread using a helicoil kit. This is very common, but please read this and be carful!!! If you don't have a 29mm socket to push the spark plug rings in, just use the old spark rings! They have a nice stiff metal core surrounded with rubber to prevent scratching the soft aluminium and they are the perfect size. I didn't have a mallet so I used a hammer to hit a short piece of 2x4 to hit the old ring into the new ring. Worked like a charm. The rings I got were a pretty tight fit unlike what was shown in the video. When you get the cover back on, the spark plug rings wont be seated on the tubes. Just poke them a bit with a screwdriver and make sure they have a good seal. Be carful not to tear them. The factory service manual says to make sure the gasket is clean and dry so I didn't put oil on it like Scotty says to. Not leaking so I think that's the right choice. Also make sure to clean the old hondabond off and use a plastic scraper so you don't scratch the mating surface. Are you around Sacramento CA? Shoot me an email and use my hondabond! 1 tube is enough to do this job about 600 times lol Good luck and be carful with the torque!! Joseph

Excellent video thanks for this! Just changed the gaskets on my 04 accord. However a problem came up. One of the valve cover nuts won’t torque down all the way. It won’t increase in resistance the more I tighten. I’m scared that it’s stripped. Right now it’s too tight for me to loosen or tighten without tools, but obviously I’m not happy about that. Any advice on where to go from here?

At the dealership, our master techs really don't wait for the RTV/Hondabond to 'cure' or 'dry' before starting and driving the vehicle. If you read the Honda shop manual they will say to wait a period of time before adding oil and another longer period of time before driving car -- but like I said all of our Honda master technicians just install and send the car back to customer and never had a problem with a returning customer complaining of any oil leaks from the RTV/Hondabond.

You just have to push it down so that other wires and other parts doesn’t get in the way of the valve cover. You’ll still have to screw the bolt down so it’ll tighten the valve cover and the gasket.

Yes you have to press HARD as well as watch out for the wires. The seals have to go around those metal tubes. The cover with the new seals will sit on top of the metal tubes causing the case cover to "rock" as you put it. Lube the tube seals and the metal tubes they sit on with oil or dielectric grease before pressing the cover over them. If not they WILL be damaged or overstretch and not seat around them. Manually torquing the case on is not advised. use an automatic driver like the one shown in the video. Although do not over torque the nuts. IF you use the correct liquid gasket: P/N 08717-0004, 8718-0001, 8718-0002, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009 do not install components if too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket. (For P/N 08718-0002 no more than 4 minutes, for all others no more than 5 minutes) If so you have to remove the liquid gasket and start over. YUP this sucks that bad but doable, you need to be quick on the reinstall using Hondabond. 19:15

Maybe the gasket on the oil dipstick is stuck because it’s old and brittle? It should just pull up

John Krag THANK YOU!! I've seen like 6 videos about this similar engine and how to replace the spark plugs and the cylinder head gasket and none seem to know, or care to mention, that there are 2 seals related to each spark plug and coil; the inner seal and the one that goes on the top part of the head cover.

So there are 2 seals one for inside the valve cover gasket and one on top of it?
@tg900

One is shown installed in the video. The other one goes on the coil pack. Look at the underside of your cool packs. It seals out dust and water from getting into the spark plug tubes.

Hey so i have a question that is not connected to this video its about my 2007 accord. I am going to try and explain it best I can So My accord drives fine when i press the gas pedal it accelerates just fine, but when i accelerate my accord on the highway it feels like it lags and I have to press the gas pedal even harder to get it to speed of 60 or 70 im wondering if it is a sensor or a throttle cable problem? I hope to hear back thanks man!
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 8 жыл бұрын
+l3aller24 try cleaning the throttle plate and see if it helps, also does it have a check engine light? It also could be a throttle position sensor problem. Also try stepping on your gas pedal all the way to the floor when the engine is off and see if that'll help. I had a gas pedal issue as well when accelerating, it lagged and I did that and it cured it. Although I had a check engine light and it went away but later when I used my scanner to clear any codes, it was there and I cleared it and hasn't come back on. Maybe my issue is separate from yours but it won't hurt to try those suggestions.

I get the same laggy feel but from a stop or when going 5-10 mph and want to speed up. I suspect the fuel filter is clogged but it is inside the fuel pump inside the gas tank so I think I'll wait till the fuel pump needs replacing

It would’ve been a great time to check/adjust the valves if you had over 100K miles on the car.
