DuoReview can I just, Yagami is a complete selfish psycho? The moment he decided his family was expendable was the moment he lost all moral ground and right to "cleanse" the world. Not only them, but the many innocent people he's also killed and many more he manipulated, his supposed girlfriend included. Not only that, but he also relishes the thoughts of either manipulating and fooling his allies or straight up murdering them. He claims he's gonna get rid of all criminals, purify the world, so that only the just and righteous would live. And yet what does he do? He tricks, manipulates, lies, schemes and murders those who oppose him, while getting a kick out of it at the same time. He has no qualms about what he's doing, no regret for the killing of the innocent, no respect for human life in general despite his "goals". Overall, he's a self absorbed psychopath with a god complex, whose only desire is to rule over the rest of humanity, which he sees as beneath it.

You could say that. But Itachi's murder spree was because he considered the Village and its peace more valuable than the Uchiha clan. Protecting Sasuke is selfish. But, Itachi can have values based on sound logic which doesn't mean he's only doing things out of want, so I wouldn't call selflessness selfish depending on what inspires the mentality.

That is just silly, deciding to do something is not the same as wanting to do another thing. To put it in the most simple terms: Giving your life for someone else is about wanting to save someone, not you wanting to die. You are conflating the two. Your definition of a selfless act requires the actor to be literally selfless, as in lacking a conscious self. (or doing something they didn't mean to). The simple fact is, doing something that leaves you personally worse off than not doing it for the betternment of others is a selfless act. Take your itachi example, he wanted to save the village and his brother and sure, maybe achieving that brought him personal joy on some level, but there is no way you can say itachi was not more miserable after that act than before it.

13:08 no, he is not in the right, he just doesn't have the chance to know that what he did was wrong, but Edo Tensei and his encounter with Naruto, twisted that suppose to be reality in our real life, that the dead would not return, that in the end when he approached Sasuke for the last time in the cave, he admit that what he did was wrong, and regret that he didn't talk about it to anyone else and instead did what he think as the best answer as "the most talented ninja" in Uchiha, just to see that everything didn't work as he planned as a living corpse, he realized his mistake and didn't ask Sasuke to forgive him and just say that he will love Sasuke no matter what he becomes in the future... even Itachi admit that Kabuto is better spy than him, that he manage to suppress all his existence as a person, and become simply a tool for his village, but after trapped in that repeated genjustu, Kabuto finally realized, that tough he willing to turn into anyone and do anything but still can't throw his glasses away, because that is something dear for him, a thing that contains memory which can make you smile in your darkest time this is a message from the author for anyone out there, for example a father who keep working hard day and night to support the family that he cant have the time to see and play his own children, for sons and daughters who move far away looking for a living and ignore their family for so many years, ...and many more... You never know what you have until you lose it, and that is the time you regret it

I really felt stain , scar , itachi but light from death note was enjoying his time at killing which does give him a layer of complexity as light uses 'justice' as a facade but does not put light and others in the same category as "selfless murderers "

@@ZBoy-rc8zf he is actually wrong in the video, light doesn't start using the death note out of boredom, the first time light used the death note was to end a hostage situation and the second time was to stop a sexual predetor in the act, it didn't take long for him to go mad with power, but it came from a good place when he started. also ad hao asakura to the list of selfless murderers. and really most shaman king characters fall into that category.

@@MontySlython well the anime adaptation was actually aweful first they actually cut parts of the manga to get on with the story more quickly, then started adding filler that wasn't needed to pad out the story and finally just gave up on following the source material entirelly, slaped a fake ending on the end and called it a day. seriously read the manga it's great.

Scar even ADMIT that at the begining he was using religion and justice as excuses and he just hated alchemist(and later on he just stopped the murdering). Just because his hate was justified and the people he killed deserve to explode doesn't mean that his motivations were not selfish.

I really wouldn't call Light selfless. He turned into a psychopath with a God complex near the end. And both Stain and Scar are serial killers. Scar murdered State Alchemists indiscriminately regardless of whether they involved in Ishval. Stain murdered heroes for the "crime" of not living up to his standards. And yes I know Nux is using "selfless" sarcastically.

My issue with Stain was that by attacking Iida's brother he points out that he's sort of shit in his standards. Iida's brother is built up as a moral hero, so Stain attacking him does not compute.

@@natesal5037 maybe. They aren't really specific about it beyond Ingenium sending out his sidekicks to patrol for the Hero Killer and Tensei finding him in an ally. But even then, Stain's quirk would have allowed him to escape if that was all he wanted to do. Instead he left him for dead and that flies counter to his goal of doing what he does just because of heroes are in it for glory instead of moral reasons. He had a moral hero at his mercy and chose to try to kill him rather than leaving him be and finding another target.

I don't agree with calling all of these "selfless murderers". While Scar obviously bore a justified hatred for alchemists, he clearly acted out of revenge and not for the greater good he preached, which is clearly shown in his resolve to kill each and every alchemist, even innocent ones. It's not until Winry sparks a change in him, that he starts to give up his own agenda for the greater good. As for Stain, he obviously believes his ideology, but wanting something good doesn't immediately make you selfless. Hitler also intended to make the world a better place by eradicating the jews. Doesn't mean he was selfless. Stain is more of a misguided fanatic with (possibly) good intentions, who is shown to have psychopathic tendencies and a firm belief in his crazy ideology. You already touched upon Light's lack of selflessness in the video, but just to reiterate: He's clearly not only gone mad with power over time, but was caught up in his own convoluted sense of justice from the very beginning. He did what he wanted to do, without any personal repocussions and consequences, while padding himself on the back for his "benevolence". There was nothing selfless about him, he was just forcing his own justice upon the world and literally playing god. Itachi is the only one you could call selfless out of the 4. He's the only one who acted against his own wishes. Itachi is the only one who did things he actually really didn't want to do and felt actualy remorse. He had to sacrifice pretty much everything dear to him and give up all his selfish desires to save lives. While you might not agree with his actions, they clearly weren't as misguided or selfish as the actions of the other 3, because the conditions forced him to do what he did. He's also the only one who wouldn't have done what he did, had he been given the option. He's the only one who knew he wasn't rightoues, but took the sin upon himself nevertheless and sacrifided everything.
