surprisingly you can get a full team of Kanto pokemon before the 1st Gym in Sinnoh. Geodude, Zubat, Psyduck, Magikarp, Abra, Machop or Ponyta, and Onix are all available before Roark. So Maybe try Kanto pokemon in Platinum

I do this all the time but only Johto pokemon. The only exception to this is taking in Kanto Pokemon for the purpose of evolving into Johto Pokemon (Eevee into Espeon/Umbreon or Horsea into Kingdra)

I don't think using only Johto pokemon is too difficult, the difficult challenge is beating a Johto game with only pokemon from Johto, in fact, trying to find a single Johto pokemon that doesn't suck is hard

You're kidding right? The game is way easier to beat with an all Kanto team. A real challenge would be Johto only since a good portion of them are weak and the other ones for some reason are locked until the second half.
