I noticed that CachyOS fixed its weird bottlenecking recently so I'm happy about that but it's a shame this happened. It's easy to say to just go with AMD (I have both brands at this point and can attest to its comparative seamlessness) but I want Nvidia to continue to improve so that the brand won't matter on Linux. It matters less than it used to. I am certainly of the opinion that most of the Nvidia hate on Linux is outdated, though I do think the cards themselves are becoming overpriced regardless of OS. General usage and Wayland support are really good now but there are still some kinks.

I have had great performance for the last year on my nVidia 4060 (laptop) but the last couple of months something changed. Not sure if it was a particular update but after about a half hour to an hour everything gets studdery like I'm losing frames. It doesn't recover and I need to fully close the game.

There is a case of VRAM leaks in DX12 games with nVidia. Especially pronounced in D4. There are workarounds, though. Check on protondb

I've noticed this as well and I'm just running a lowly GTX-1660. Before that, performance was pretty much on-par with Windows. But in the last couple of months, I started seeing performance tank in many games that were fine before. Booting into Windows and trying the games there, I saw an improvement to what I expected it to be. So something has changed and I think it's the nVidia drivers. My GTX-1660 still works fine for the games I play, so I don't have a reason to upgrade at this time. I normally don't upgrade every change I have. I pretty much run my hardware into the ground before I upgrade again. 😆

I see the same issue on my system with a 4090. CachyOS on the Linux side with both with the bore scheduler and with the eevdf scheduler. Windows 11 (24h2 LTSC) generally performs a lot better than Linux. With more stable FPS and lower frame times. I even setup a virtual windows machine under Linux with gpu passthrough, so that the scheduler was dictated by the Linux scheduler, and it was the same story on the virtual machine. So that rules out the scheduler's and the kernel. It's 100% something to do with nvidia.

@@Mattscreative ok, might be wrong what they report. Strange part from time to time. I can see the same, where people say its working. It was from Airmax stream the other day. Then on my system its not working at all. That is when things start to get frustrating. But you are right about what you see. I have noticed a huge issue my self around dx12 and vulkan. I had 1 year of benchmarks from windows and linux, I was monitoring, that did go up in smoke last week, while I installed PikaOs 4.0. When PikaOs was installed it deleted my EFI partition. Then moved the efi to the pikaos drive. So I had 8TB data loss. I have spoken to arch devs and the devs over at pikaos. So I have an idea what was going on. Sadly, now i cant provide you with the benchmarks that I had from both systems. But I have seen the changes over time. I also been reporting back to nvidia. But not a word back Im a huge emulator guy my self, with a retro collection on close to 110k games. But Switch emulation has been difficult in performance on linux now. I doubt it has anything to do with emulator it self in linux. Due my old setting for a high end spec, is not usable anymore.

My general experience since switching is everything feels better on Linux with an AMD card. Even if the numbers aren't better the gameplay just feels smoother. With my Nvidia card it has been the polar opposite. Every distro and every game. Even if the game plays excellent it won't "feel" as responsive to the player. I just shelved my Nvidia card. The AMD experience is so far ahead on Linux honestly. Even little things like waking up after sleep Nvidia blackscreens every time.
