I'm on line at my local Microcenter right now and one dude on line literally said he was here just to sell it on ebay😂 I was 3rd on line so I was able to get a voucher so my 3080ti is secured. There's probably around 60 people behind me and they only gave out 23 vouchers. Everyone else is here just hoping to get lucky. Got the cash from selling my 6800xt on ebay last week and made a nice profit lol. Decided to make the switch after playing on my roommates PC all the time who has a 3080. @@varinders003 Yeah the prices are definitely a problem. It will calm down but not any time soon. Businesswise I can appreciate Nvidia's challenge though. I would imagine they are paying a premium to get chips made currently, the entire supply chain is overwhelmed, pay more to get closer to the head of the line. This translates to higher costs for the product. Then along come the miners and scalpers, who prove to nvidia that they can sell their product for 2x normal msrp levels and still clear the shelves, perhaps more. It's a sellers market right now, but at least msrp isn't $4k currently, it's still 'reasonable' by comparison to what people are actually paying.

For real. Good games have been few and far between if you don't play literally every genre. So many issues with early access becoming abandonware or asset flips. And then this shit happens, and has stuck around for so long. I'm on a 10 year old build, and have zero interest in upgrading at this point. I can play everything I have great, and nothing new has ended up being worth a damn for me. The one game I was excited for was Dual Universe, and I was gonna upgrade for that, but it ended up being an subscription based MMO, so fuck that. I've been sticking to my Switch, and honestly enjoying it far more, and don't have to stress over all the PC garbage.

idunno... $1200 is a high price... but my current gtx 1080 was ~$600 and mostly keeps up with me 5 years later. That was the most expensive card I ever bought, but also the cheapest per-year cost I have ever spent on a card. If a $1200 card can actually keep up with my needs (something the 1080 came close to, but never quite did), and can last me 6-8 years instead of my traditional 2-4... well... that still kind of lines up with what I am accustomed to paying... just all up-front instead of every couple years. Not saying that I don't want a $600 card that will happily last me 6-8 years - of course that would be better! But at the same time I am not opposed to spending a bit more up-front if it is going to last me a good long while... and with no more affordable options available then I would probably pay the $1200 if I get the opportunity to. But lets be real; none of us 'normal' people are going to even get the chance to spend $1200 on one of these cards. We will be waiting another 6-10 months for more general availability... at which point the next gen AMD cards might be out, and the next gen nVidia cards will be just a few months away. Not sure what is more wild to think about. That my 1080 will be 6 years old before it gets replaced? Or that a current gen card or next gen card will likely keep up with my use-case for the whole life of the card... just how long can a GPU last anyway? I have a couple 10 year old machines that are still running 24/7, but I don't think I have anything near that old with a GPU in it. But I imagine at that point the upgrade will be like it was from my i7 to my i9... it is faster on paper, and it is faster on benchmarks, but for my workloads and games there was not much difference at all lol. We all have a limit on our compute demands... I think I am close to reaching mine hahahaha.

I wouldn't expect to see that until next year. I have a funny feeling NVidia may wait till AM5 is released, PCIe 5 is actually a really big deal and CXL will probably be the advent for bringing back SLI. Both NVidia and AMD are on the board for the open standard with Intel and its one of those game changers like theoretically throwing in another CPU through the PCIe bus, which although weird has some interesting applications especially for Photo and Video rendering. Its also baked into the PCIe5 standard at a hardware level, so its going to be impossible for them to just ignore it.

Interesting to see this, some months later. Regarding high end versus regular cards, the cycle time from concept to output is probably 18 to 24 months, so switching output from high end to low end cards is not so simple. One cannot also simply repurpose a 3080 chip in to, say, a 3060, as the wafer yields are different, and the chip cost will tend to dominate the product cost. The good thing is that old cards hold their value now, which somewhat offsets the scalper prices. BTW, don't expect the.chip supply problem to be over in a few months. This will take literally a couple of years to get back to equilibrium.

I was able to get a 3080ti and I built my first computer this year! I never owned my own computer. My dad has an old computer that I could never use to play games in. I'm talking about those boxed computers haha. I've always owned laptops and I would game in them but not even for gaming either. I saved, I built, and waited. I was brave enough to build my computer this year! its insane how things are really. I feel bad for everyone who is stuck or who's been like in my situation. I hear people complaining about how expensive the TI is. Makes sense but it depends on the situation too. That's something not everyone thinks about. Most of the time we buy for the wants. I saved and I been longing to get the best with what I can afford. I'm not saying its okay that the Ti is expensive and should just buy it. My view on my specific situation, I am a first time computer builder AND computer owner saved up to get something like this. If I don't want to spend more in the next few years I'm going to get the best to what I can afford currently. I plan to keep my computer for many years and I want to enjoy the absolute best. Maybe its a waste of money in your opinion, I would agree for those who already own computers and are just looking to upgrade. For me I saw it as an opportunity especially with how the economy is inflating we don't know what's in hold for our futures. It is understandable to be upset though, I'm just sharing how fortunate I am to even have my best first computer being built at the most horrible time ever. It's ironic really you might even feel sorry for me or hopefully agree with my excitement. Bought an EVGA 3080ti FTW3 from Amazon for $1330 on March 22. Under volt to 1935mhz @ 875mv. Dropped 9 degrees and 70 watts for same performance as stock. Paired it with an i7 12700K and Superpostion 1080p Extreme result is 98.51fps @ 13170. Beats the stock 3090 for $170 less.

Ya know, the thing with me is I am in love with the Founders Edition feature set, the cooling system, the whole style of the card or brick, as I love to say. I do realize that EVGA puts out a kick-ass product that is hard to dismiss. The however of it all is in my dreams I see that 'Brick', the Founders Edition, in my system. The Founders Edition just tops off my rig as I see it in my mind's eye, I want it. It could be a 3070 or a 'ti' but no more than $800.00 total. I went with the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA HYDRO COPPER Metal Backplate 12G-P5-3959-KR. The 3080 Ti clearly needs improved cooling, and hopefully the EVGA liquid cooling option helps solve that issue. Time will tell.

The RTX3060 was for sale on Komplett.no for about 4 hours, they had about 50+ in stock suddenly one day. I was lucky and got a RTX3060 before all was sold out at same price as I sold my 3 year old GTX1080ti . It has tiny bit less performance in games, considerably faster doing video encoding and uses half as much electricity. (need to save power as I am going offgrid solar power in a van).

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't manufacturing one 3080ti just mean that there's one less non ti 3080? That would mean that there's no actual increase in production numbers, but rather a shift in what's actually being manufactured. In this case they swapped out a lower value card for one that sells for more. I could be wrong though.

That’s not how it works. Chips typically printed on 8 or 12 inches silicon wafers. Nvidia is a fabless semiconductor company so they rent chip fabrication capacity from one of 3 or 4 mega foundries. Those are contracts that are negotiated years in advance and are negotiated in terms of number of wafers per month. Now a wafer is a round disc on to which multiple rectangular dies are printed. Higher end GPUs have more cores so they take up more space so typically on a wafer you might get 20 good 3080ti die or 100 good 3060 die depending on their relative size and how many rectangular dies you can fit on a circular wafer (bigger die waist more space on the wafer). Now when nvidia makes one 3080ti chip it mean that 4 or 5 3060 chips might not be made depending on the yield per wafer they get for each type of GPU they make.

I've been needing to upgrade my production work PC for over a year now. I waited for the new product releases last year which ultimately bit me. What a crazy situation we're in between the silicon shortage, the pandemic, crytpo mining and of course those bastard scalpers..

Wow, this was a surprisingly light review of the card. I expected more emphasis on the fact that at MSRP, this card is a complete rip-off compared to the 3080.

Maybe, but compared to the 3090 its a good deal. Almost like people are upset they can't afford the highest performance card when they also can't afford a monitor that actually needs the performance of said card

@@finishednebula8460 In my opinion I disagree. You may aswell just get the 3090 for the extra vram, if you have enough money to buy a 3080 Ti you most likely have enough to get a 3090. 2gb extra vram is trash

I'm so happy i bought a 2080ti early 2019, its still a monster card. When 30 series came out i was doubting to get a 3080 but soon decided to wait for when the next gen comes out, 40 series if they will be called that, hopefully they'll be able to build up enough stock before releasing that so we can go back to normal prices.

Bought mine MSI rtx 3080 ti today and love it! :) ... no scalpers in between.
