Most unique vocalist in the industry today. V really stands out in the crowd. He’s more interested in creating music he likes rather than churn out music to chart which is here today and gone tomorrow. V’s music is timeless and he is allowing other musicians to share the stage with him. He is the best artist out there and I love that he’s doing something different.

V’s Layover album has 6 songs altogether. They are: Love Me Again, Rainy Days, Blue, Slow Dancing, For Us, Slow Dancing (piano versions). This is a no skip album for me. I love all the songs. The album has jazz and R&B vibes and V’s soulful voice is a balm to my soul. Here in Tiny Desk, he performed only a snippet of For Us, and Blue and Rainy Days are missing. Kim taehyung is a baritone, but of the BTS group he is the member who has the widest vocal range, he can make high notes but he can also lower and rasp his voice, he is a jazz lover😍🤗

@@angieb9065 i am talking about tiny desk korea. What RM did for Indigo with the songs Seoul, Yun & Still life and BTS did in 2020 with the songs Dynamite, Save Me & Spring Day were for npr tiny desk concert. If you don't know. Tiny desk Korea and npr Tiny desk are 2 different things.

@@FREEKYFERRET i am definitely not mistaken. And yeah the 3 performances are not under the same KZbin channel. And so they have different yt channel. V and Jimin are a part of BTS but that doesn't mean they are same. This is my understanding and i wont say otherwise. You may think whatever you want to for example ✌🏻being abrupt✌🏻

He is not learning to play the Saxophone. Before debut, V started taking Saxophone lessons & continued for 3 years. He just recently took up the trumpet.

He already plays saxophone since before debut he took music lessons for that instrument and jazz was the genre of music he played. He is learning to play the trumpet now, he also was learning to play the violin time ago. 🫶

He can play Saxophone he learnt before he was in BTS. In fact if you watch the band practice for the Tiny desk concert at the end he is jamming on saxophone with the band. That's how good he really is.

V's got his own colour like every other members of bts and that is shown in this solo work...v is into jazz so much and it goes so well with his unique baritone voice..im glad he's got to do what he wanted and that reflects himself... Thats why, their solo stuff are so different than their group stuff..since the approach is different... Solo works express their individuality, distinct color, style of their vocal, taste in music more..

Their solo projects have so much variation that those who don't know them won't be able to guess these guys are working together as one team for 10 years. They truly have different colors and I am glad they're able to show it openly through solo projects

I forgot how good V’s Tiny Desk Concert is. The more I listen to his music the more I love it. As someone that was around in the 70’s, I see some similarities to some of the slow soulful music from then like early Chicago with the horns. I love it! Thanks for sharing your reaction to this video. 💜

V has played saxaphone since he was young, and before he "won" his audition and was invited to join Big Hit. When asked by Jimmy Falon what he would have been if not for BTS, V said, "saxaphonist."

I have a creative friend who has created for me complete sets of all of Tae's solo works and one collection of his jazz. Tae is a genius. Not sure that HYBE BigHit know how to nurture and take care of a jazz artist. He has listened to all of his Dad's favorite artists on vinyl as well as his own unique favorites, like Bing Crosby. There is no limit for Tae. he is a superb actor, musician, fashion designer...anything he sets his mind to.

As someone who studied jazz in college, this was such a great surprise for me. I'm loving Chapter 2 and all the solo activity. I should have known what to expect since Taehyung is an old soul who loves Bing Crosby. Tae also plays the sax, so I'm sure that had an influence on this performance.

His knowledge in music is vast. He is very meticulous about what music he puts out for his fans. He specifically knows what instruments he wants to be used in his songs. V is a hands musician from start to finish. His love for music is great. It truly is his life. If you didn’t know he plays sax, trumpet, violin, and piano, that I know of. Check into his other songs like SWEET NIGHT,STIGMA, SINGULARITY, SCENERY, SNOW FLOWER, CHRISTMAS TREE and WINTER BEAR. Taehyung’s music is very unique touching, comfort ing, relaxing. V show cased his eclectic taste in music on his Vlog DRIVE it’s on KZbin. It’s almost an hour long but it will give you somewhat of an idea what his personality is and it’s full of charm. You’re doing a great job. Keep it up. ✌️🫶🐯👑🐻💜♥️💜♥️💜BORAHAE

I love the comment and I agree with the recommendations. By the way, except for Singularity and Christmas Tree, in the others he participated in writing, composition and production. V studied saxophone for 3 years before joining his company as a trainee, because his dad told him that if he wanted to be a singer he should first play an instrument. He was starting to study dance when he accompanied a friend to the Big Hit audition (as far as I know at that time they were closed with invitations to dance schools and a minimum of 2 years of study was requested so he did not meet the requirements); V caught the attention of the BigHit staff when they saw him and they invited him to audition on that occasion, being the only one who was selected. In the time he has been in BTS he has learned at least a little of: piano, violin and trumpet, we have seen him with guitar (and playing with the double bass) and that he is not bad with percussions. He is a true musician and has an absolute ear. As a singer he is the widest range of the group (and they all exceed 3 octaves), he has very good technique and is very versatile so he covers many genres, you can also listen from his natural deep bass to good highs and quite high notes (even for tenors and he is a baritone).

V has such a beautiful, soulful sound. I get chills and tear up listening to him because it's just so beautiful. I love all 7 members of BTS so much but V's solo work is probably my favorite. He is really sensitive, sweet, and incredibly diverse with his music intellect. So glad you're watching this-I highly encourage you to listen to his whole album. It's absolutely lovely- no favorite the whole album is good but Rainy Days is a really nice one.

With this performance I believe the band was especially created for V and flew from US. Some of are Grammy band performer and musicians. V is quite a meticulous artist and very true to his color! This is V.. his real personality and color and music.. quite unique and genuine .. not trendy ! He wants to share the real him and his music !

V is so multi-talented. His voice range is insane for a baritone. His music choice is my favorite. Because this (and his gorgeous face, does hurt) he is my Ultbias. Layover is amazing. There are 5 songs, but SLow dancing piano version. The two there songs not incl in TD are Rainy Days and Blue. For me, it was a no skip album. Absolutely love it!

Layover is a mini album with only five songs (V made an MV for every song). I love all the five: Rainy Days, Love me Again, Slow Dancing, Blue, and For US, but maybe my favorite is Slow Dancing. V has an old soul. He loves Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, etc. In the past, his dream was singing this kind of music, wearing a suit like his father's or Justin Timberlake's 😊 and he did it in Le Jazz de V. I don't remember if you reacted to that video. Oh! I simply fell in love with the saxophonist! The first time I listened to this video, I understood what an eargasm is. 😅

If you want more raw performance of V watch the band session of V for lay over and you will be at awe on how good his voice and how comfortable the band with him. Jazz and slow is V’s forte . But he knows what he wants and deliver it with sincere and genuine heart just like all the BTs members, though his music is quite different from what BTS and that what I like about him.. he has persona as V of BTS and V as Kim Taehyung as musician and artist.

V is a great singer and his choice of making the music he likes is commendable... And i think he's so underrated of his voice which he doesn't deserve. He's so hard on himself with people judging him ( he was so down in 2020-2022) because of hate and it breaks my heart even now... He deserves the best of the universe.. he's such a genuine person and great sensational personality.

For Us. I can listen to that repeatedly. This live version is better than the recorded IMO. There is another live version along with Slow Dancing on NPOP plus he does “Blue” which I think is only time he has done it live. Enjoy your reactions 😊

I think V says, "thank you for waiting" because he had talked about releasing an album for 2-3 years before it finally came out last year, so he knew his fans had been waiting. He was the last of the 7 members to release a solo project during the BTS break from group activities during the last 1-2 years. He worked so hard to make it just what he wanted it to be. "Love Me Again" is my favorite song from this album.

He had us in a long wait for his album, he has even shown us on social networks some fragments of songs that for some reason he has discarded. It should be noted that V has worked for years on songs but in the end he discards many because they no longer meet his current expectations (I wish he would release them on some albums, I really think it would be a great gift from him to show us all that must be wonderful); in the end he decided to look for a team that would materialize his ideas both in music, lyrics and even image and video, to accompany him on his debut.

@@TheBlackcoffeeable He went through a lot of doubting his own lyric's what he wrote I hope he didn't really throw out his lyric's like he said on Suchwita to Suga. Suga looked suprised when V said he threw his own lyric's out because he though he'd wrote gibbberish. Did you watch the episode? I thought that was quite sad if he really did through his own lyric's out. Self-doubt can distroy a person. Suga has said never throw lyric's out and get what he meant as months or years later you might go back to them and think oh yes I just need to alter them a little or maybe a word or phrase or a whole line get the thoughts and inspiration going again. Been there and done that myself. V clearly had a period of self-doubting his ability. That happens to all artists in very artistic field. Now maybe he's only thrown those lyric's to one side not really distoryed them so we never know he might go back to them and see them in a different light.

The three songs V sang on Tiny Desk Korea are three of my current faves, but I LOVE the entire album. It's an album where you can sit in your living room while sipping hot tea and watching the rain/snow fall outside your window.

V has been a lifelong fan of jazz, and he has played saxophone, and is learning trumpet and violin. He is so multi-dimensional, because he brings a lot of energy (chaotic? ☺) to BTS onstage, and he listens to a broad range of music, he is really drawn to the type of music he chose for his debut album, which is SO GOOD. Check out Rainy Days and Blue as well. He greatly admires and was able to meet Lady Gaga and Jon Batiste when they were in Las Vegas for 2 weeks and went to the Grammys.

My favorite song from his album is "Slow Dancing". My favorite singles from him are "Winter Bear" and "Snow Flower". My favorite song written by him is "Blue & Grey", which was originally for his mixtape, but then developed as a group song. My favorite unreleased song is "Travel with Me".

V's album is a great reflection of musical soul. He has great love for jazz & r&b. He is the soulful baritone with a nice range. For us is my favorite track on the album and Layover is still one of my favorite albums. All of the members have put out amazing solo projects so far. Layover is definitely an amazing solo project.

There aren’t a lot of tracks on Layover. This Tiny Desk shows you half of the tracks. The songs you haven’t listened to are “Blue” & “Rainy Days”. He also made a music video for each one of the tracks! You definitely should check them out, especially the MV for “Slow Dancing”! 💜

Yes,it’s fun to watch you, you always make me smile. Layover is a very unique album, it’s V’s vibe,very natural and easy to listen. Every one of them gave us a different but beautiful and enjoyable music. As BTS they great, but as solo artists they are too,so original, and talented.

Layover is an incredible album every song is a masterpiece and he created a visual album so every song has a music video. Also Vs live vocals are just amazing he never disappoints. He has the greatest vocal range in the group and since you seem to really like the high notes you should check out Stigma the best high note of any BTS song that can only be rivaled by Jin in Epiphany... I would have never guessed V had it in him and he really is one of the most underrated vocalists. He makes music that he loves... not necessarily for the charts. Layover has some great performances i hope you love his album... its in my daily rotation... Vs voice is soothing to the soul.

This tiny desk is one of my fav things from 2023. I didnt know what to expect from V's album and he surprised me in the best way possible. His album, along with Jhope, are my type of music. I enjoyed all the projects, but those are heavily in my Playlist. My fav is this version of Slow dancing and Rainy days.

During 2022 PTD tour in Vegas KZbin has a clip of him visiting a Jazz club. With all the older attendees, he was solo dancing in his element!!! I love the entire album, Slow Dancing is my fav! Now... I have listened to the entire project over and over and over again. I love all of it! But I’m also 55, and love artists like George Benson. I think that the LP is a nice fusion of jazz and R&B. All of my favorites were performed on the Tiny Desk Concert. Though Jin and Jhope are my biases, I love V’s voice best!

Thanks fo reacting to this. Yeah, V has a pretty unique taste in music, which got reflected well in his album. He said that he just wants this album to represent him as an artist, even tho he know it is not what people would expect from him. He always loved Jazz, Soul, RnB and Classical music, and while he said he may in the future make more poppy music, he wanted his first album to be fully him...which I find to be a pretty cool idea. As for V - check out his live stuff (in my opinion his voice is just made for live performances ) : Le jazz de V, Stigma, would be my top picks. As for his other music I d recommend : Christmas Tree, Sweet Night - as he often sings OSTs for shows of his close friends who are famous korean actors.

V looks like he's truely enjoying himself and in the band practice it was clear they were all relaxed and chillying then we got V Jamming with the band on the Saxophone.

I hope you listen to that freaking weird key change in For Us on the album recording. There’s a bit more context there. I love it. It’s so strange, but I love that they just do what they want musically without apology.

“For Us” in V’s album sounds very different from this live performance because of the use of a different instrument😊 ( I will let you find out) and the piano part was really nice in the track. V’s album is a mini album. I personally like “Love me again” and “for us” the most!

I love that as soloists each BTS member is finding their own tone/vibe. At their very start, Suga told the younger ones to get good you must listen to lots of music- Tae took that to heart and listens to hundreds of different songs a day.

Ah Tae is in his element here. He loves jazz music so much that this was all his idea. I think he would be happy just singing in tiny jazz clubs everywhere.

My personal favorites off of Layover are Slow dancing, Blue, and For Us. Singularity is another V song that you absolutely need to check out it's a masterpiece 👏

You should watch the music of these. Slow dancing it is a flute. He mixes it u he loves jazz. They e h have their own style.

Thanks for this reaction. Tae’s Tiny Desk performance is always on repeat in our house. Some information that might help build a clearer picture of the album…. In the album version of Slow Dancing the sax solo is replaced with an awesome flute solo. Which is very unique in today’s modern music. There is also an alternative piano solo version on his album ( he performs the piano version on First Take a Japanese programme where you only get one chance to record the song with no cuts or take backs etc). Slow dancing also has choreo involved in all the other performances of it but for this performance V chose to focus on the music. Also notice that Tae very much sees the band and his chorus as he introduced them as integral and equal parts of the performance. Tae is a music lover to his core hence why he allows the instrumentation to shine so much. He learned the sax for 4 years growing up, and has practiced the trumpet, violin and other instruments too over the years. He listens to all types of music from Bing Crosby, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, to Prince, John legend, current in trend hiphop and rap artists, folk and alternative singer song writers, Korean trot and classical music too. He has a wide spectrum. He listens to all types of music which he often shares with us. His vocal range is also very interesting as he is technically a lyrical baritone which is super super rare in kpop. He rarely sings in his own comfortable range within group songs as the vocal-line members consist of tenors. His range is Eb2-Eb6/Eb2 - D6 (3 octaves, 5 notes 1 semitones) Supported C3-C4/C#4 When it comes to the songs they do feel much more upbeat in the live band version, Slow Dancing is especially much more uptempo than it is in the Album and MV version. Which I would recommend you check out to get the full feeling. Tae’s (V) goal with Slow Dancing was to convey his own personality in song form, his laidback, gentle, serene in movement nature and speech and on the slower pace of life personality. His goal with his album Layover was for it to be a calm tranquil moment of peace for ARMY and music lovers, where they could take a moment to breathe and check in with themselves. He also wanted the tracks to be listened to in order which I recommend when listening to his album as you will fully experience some of what I mentioned above as well as a cohesive and coherent narrative and musical journey. His album was included in the list of many publication best albums of 2023 (and 3 tracks appeared in the list of the best songs of 2023, showcasing the strength of the album)truly a no-skip album. (Specifically Billboard, Rolling Stone, and Timeout magazine) I really also loved and highly recommend all the MV’s for this album too, each song bar the Slow dancing piano version had an MV. (I believe you have seen the Lve Me Again MV only.) Which were all filmed in a period of one and a half weeks in Spain. Especially too as he said during his interviews, the MV’s represent the images that came to his mind when he listens to the songs.. as someone who is also a visual artist, his MV’s very add to the experience. His album is very much like a breath of fresh air. He also has a really beautiful collaboration with independent artist UMI called ‘Wherver U R’ which is so soothing and beautiful (which came about without company involvement from either side and was released independently and was a result of them being fans of each others music…) and on the 15th he will have a new single out called FRI(END)S in the pop R&B soul genre. Personally for Layover I can’t really choose as different songs take the lead as my favourite… but I love Love Me Again and Blue a lot. All his other solo’s are also so beautiful. OST’s Sweet Night and Christmas Tree (not a Christmas song despite the title) which were gifts for his friends close friends who were acting in those K-drama’s. Scenery (has classical instruments like cello etc), Winterbear (he directed the MV) and Snow Flower ( has trumpet). (Which were initially released as gifts for ARMY for free on soundcloud and didn’t get released to music platform until last year when he made his official solo debut with Layover. He also has his solo’s within BTS albums: Stigma, Singularity and Inner Child. His music is very much the type that resonates with the soul and has a lot of gentle soft warmth that lingers.
