Reminds me of Robin Riddles on the LMS, might've been an office man but he could and did drive and fire engines inn his time. Volunteered as a driver during the 1926 General Strike and drove Coronation when she visited the states due to Fred Bishop, the regular driver, falling ill.

I Wonder how James’ driver felt about having the boss on the footplate. Good for industrial relations though, management prepared to get their hands dirty. I often used to stand in for sick train staff on sleeper trains at SNCF when I was a guards manager. I enjoyed it and my train staff appreciated it too. It made a great change from office routine and reminded you what a tough job the guys on the ground really had.

Good story! About time the Fat Controller showed off some of that engineman experience!

Now this episode had me watching right to the finish. I liked how the Fat Controller was said to have done other jobs on the railway before he became in charge. I liked the music you put in for James's trip through the night :).

Great story. Jame's whistle sounded a bit off several times. WAS it supposed to sound like that?
