I remember hearing these buses zoom past my school and backfire all the time. I remember liking and being scared of these buses at the same time due to the fact that they sound like monsters.

The good news is at least the design of the bus won't be gone because we'll still have the 7.501 Old Gen Hybrids just without the large CNG tank and without the series 50engine and allison transmission. The hybrids bear a good reminder of their CNG counterparts!

This makes me thankful that my small ass system here in Salem, Oregon has Orion VII CNG's from 2002 with the S50G / B400R. They are sure LOUD! They are even a bit louder than our old Orion I's and RTS's that had 6V92TA. I love them, and thankfully ours have around 5 years left.

They were very LOUD!! You could hear the engine a mile away almost!! They hauled ass in the Bronx!! Sometimes I would hear them speed past my house in the middle of the night!!

First time I saw this was on the Bx36 and first time I rode on it was on the Bx35. Didn't know much about buses back then but I quickly fell in love with them. Then the last time I rode one was on the 5 train Dyre Avenue shuttle. I didn't know it was my last time riding these which makes me feel sadder. I miss all buses with DD50 engines in NYC, they were so special.

The streets aren’t the same without these gems in Brooklyn and the Bronx, my last bus ride on these were on the Bx6 Loacl to 161. I cherished that, when I first saw these back in they say when they were black backs I was amazed and got goosebumps when I heard these beasts and the 1998-00 c40’s. Rip a legendary bus that everyone loved. These sounded good when they hauled a$$ Also there was 1 bus after the old gens, the Orion 7 3G, those were the absolute best. I’d like to see a review on that Also why did 7691 and that other unit get re powered with a Cummins Westport Isb engine, sounding like a weird c40?

Unlimited Gamer I saw 7631 yesterday! I nearly cried! It doesn't feel as if their retiring but they are. It's sad! And Orion CNG buses are not known to being preserved or saved once CNG tanks expire! Old C40LFs 848, 942 and 978 may have survived death but I highly doubt that they'll save an Orion Vii CNG! They didn't preserved none and didnt even sell a Orion V CNG and I'm afraid the Orion Vii CNG will suffer the same fate! They were so iconic just like the old C40LF. BOTH buses defined the buses of Brooklyn besides the 1996 to 1999 RTSs. Brooklyn juat didnt feel like Brooklyn without them. I mean look at the West Farms sticker! That type of bus is on the sticker! But the good news is that the 2006-2007 Hybrids should help us heel by having the same model bus frame for memories. But at least the 2011-2013 are here to help keep the C40LF a while longer and we'll finally have articulated XN60s at Jackson Gleason.

Donkey B Ahhh ....Lol Yeah Tru and yes I do hope they can preserve 1 2002 and 2003 Orion 7 CNG that would be nice also 7560 that JG has which is super hard to find also the XN60s are not at JG yet remember there are still orders of the XN40s and the newer XD60s also the new LFS artics bruh Once those orders finish then thats when they will be tested as a pilot and dont forget there will be newer Orders of XD40s arranged from 7483-7849. Also dont forget the 2003-2005 Orion 7 1st old gens will retire too or I say get replaced soon so get ready for that in the next years coming or so and yes the 2006-2007 Orion 2nd Old generation hybrids will make me have memories of the orion 7 cngs except the Orion 7 old gens have ringers and they are loud AF too but not as loud as its older Sisters lol...

Apparently one of the last 3 Mechanics from Command Bus who was able to work on the bus wasn't able to get the bus to start up after taking vacation. And besides the CNG tanks is expired. So those two factors (especially the latter) made 4th at RTS CNG #4904 sit at the depot for years to come it's been a decade since it last moved.

Honestly the 2010s was the prime for NYCT buses, the new hybrids/zero emission buses suck and are too quiet (zero emission buses are slightly better cause its unique but i just hate how quiet they are)

As I usually ride these low-floored Orion buses during the previous decade, the only thing I hated and couldn't stand most times was the loud kneeling sound as they kneel - they were, to me, in my owns thoughts, irritatingly and annoyingly lousy, awful, and unpleasant! The same thing goes for the Westchester Beeline Bus Company. But, Thanks be to God, both New York City Transit and MTA took care of those kneeling sounds, which has been sounding better for being quiet and less irritating to me, during the later years!

Only 2 depots could afford CNG and also the fueling stations. College Point didn't want them and Spring Creek was suffering from a shortage so they didn't have a choice but to borrow some from TA
