I attempt to make the BIGGEST EPOXY RESIN vase ever! I used so much epoxy resin on this project it was ridiculous! I splashed it all over the floor, it covered my whole workshop lol. The mess was just horrendous ! I don't think this has ever been attempted before? please come and watch this it was crazy !

I would like to see you carry this project a bit farther. Make several "bowls" like you did the first one of gradually smaller sizes, and then nest them inside each other like a flower. Then drill through the bottom and mount a light inside to make a hanging ceiling lamp. I think that would make a killer project and be worth a lot of $ to an art fancier. (Besides it would be SO cool!).

Hey nick if you try this again I'd suggest trying one of those plastic kids pools as mold. I don't know if you would get separation with that type of plastic but you could line it. They're already round and some have a honey comb pattern that would look neat if it didn't flatten out during the forming stage

Love the results and you can always stack them inside each other to give a sculpture feel to it. Just a few tips Nick 1 level surface 2 no creases 3 wooden sticks around perimeter (under plastic) will prevent runoff 4 if resin is too hard to drape - you can soften it with a heat gun.

I kinda like some of the messed up experiment ones better than the tester. Some of them looked like campfire flames or ice crystals, and the creases gave a cool effect.

Nick, have you thought about using a small, hard plastic kiddie pool, lining it with a very large sheet of thick plastic (one sheet to cover the whole bottom and walls of the pool)? This should prevent leaks and the resin separating due to creases from separate sheets of plastic.

I am a fan of this type/style of art -- which is exactly how the pieces turned out -- as art. From the wrinkle patterns to the "holes" in the finished pieces, each piece is so unique. Awesome experiment, sir!

I loved the fiery orange/red pieces most! The smallest one is really special - it's almost like a 'splash' frozen in time, in resin ❣️ I love the way the light reflects off the creases in the largest orange/red one - just gives it something extra. You've made beauty out of chaos again!

Nick - here's another idea: First off, I DEFINTELY think you should give this another go. But, how about this so you don't have to pry the whole sheet of free-form resin off a large plastic sheet - devise the platform in such a way that when the right time comes to mold the resin over a form, you can raise a form up from the underneath the platform!! Kind of like cutting a large hole in a sheet of plywood where the plywood is the flat surface where you cover it with the plastic sheeting material, place the forming structure underneath the plywood, pour the resin then in about 2-4 days (I guess) raise the form up through the hole. This would lift the resin up and you could simply push it down around it and then let it sit again until it hardens - thoughts??? :-)) Kevin

I like this idea so far, just a thought, build a platform 6'x6' with a hydrolic ram in the center. Then after a few days, start raising the ram slowly. 👍

I agree with you on this , how ever I do not think he has that kind if set up. But you are onto something here , ideas thinking that after the first day of it setting he puts the first bucket under it and then each day or even half day add another bucket under it until either it is fully cured or to the point it is high enough that the resin is thinning out . Also I feel leaving the creases in the plastic gives it character and tells a story in the desine like rivers flowing through the resin. But yes a flush to the ground hydraulic lift would be the optimal way to do it slowly raising it as it sets .

Nice results, regardless of the mishaps. Looks like Taffy. I would definitely like to see the results of a rerun with the plastic laid down on a smooth surface without the creases and perhaps with a boundary to prevent the resin from escaping. I imagine putting thick rope, or hose underneath the plastic in a rough perimeter would work - sort of like a giant wonky egg ring

I can't help but think how lovely a couple of those nestled together would look with a flickering light in the middle. It would make a tremendous floor piece or flipped over the largest one would make a wild hanging light. I don't understand your mind at all but I love watching the process...you're quite an artist!

WHILE IT WAS soft, you could have folded it over and over onto itself (Lake Damascus steel) until you got it the right size for a good blank... and then turned it on the lathe into something really cool. 🐂🤠🐂

Love all the vases that came out of this experiment. They would be so cool to put candles in and the colours would reflect back onto walls and other features around the house. Just wondering if you have to peel it off the original backing sheets, as I think it might help just to lift it off the floor with the backing sheet still attached and then you wouldn’t be adding stress to the resin by pulling it apart. The only problem I can think of would be that when it creases and sets it might catch some of the backing sheet between the resin and it would be harder to remove the plastic.

Love them!!! I have use a garden hose or rope to make a perimeter, then lay a plastic shower curtain down (shiney) and heat the room to leti it relax or use a heat gun. Pour directly on it ( alcohol ink can fade so I don't use it - resin dye instead) and pick the whole thing, curtain and all and drape over your form. A heat gun will help to soften it a little to help it drape. Can't wait to see more!!!

That turned out pretty cool. I'm a bit of an experimenter with crafty things and the whole reason I found your channel and other "resin wood turners " is because I had the idea several years ago to saturate fabric in resin and drape it, just as youve done here, to make a bowl or vase shape. I checked KZbin to see if anyone had done that and to get tips. Ended up going down a different rabbit hole and never tried it, but maybe you can.

The biggest one would make a great lampshade for a floor lamp....it would look as if the shade was/had melted and was dripping down. The two on the far right, the orange one and the blue and orange one, would be excellent for a jewelry trays...places for bracelets, necklaces etc to hang from,. I love all of them; each is unique and different. It gives each person looking at it an opportunity to find out what THEY see in it. Love it.
