A few years ago, I was driving home listening to the radio and happened to hear a harpsichord rendition of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel which really left me spellbound. Inspired, I rushed home and tracked down the performance I had heard online so I could transcribe it straight away. At the time of transcribing there were a few technical things that I found really tricky to get just the way I wanted them, so the music ended up getting shelved, and then a few years went by. This year, it got to December and I thought, what am I going to do for a video this month? And suddenly I remembered how much I'd wanted to try playing this! Fortunately with a few more years of playing behind me, the bits I found hard the first time around seemed a little easier this time, which is always nice. I really liked how this arrangement lends itself to the harp, with its arpeggiated chorus particularly, and lots of opportunities for different colours by varying my proximity to the soundboard (playing lower in the strings gives a more nasal quality which is reminiscent of the harpsichord). You can't actually play varied dynamics on a harpsichord, so this was a great opportunity to make the piece my own by adding my own dynamics, in addition to experimenting with different tones. Edwin McLean is a composer and arranger with many publications for piano and harpsichord available - you can find out more about him here: edwinmclean.com/ Wishing you all happy holidays, and wonderful things for the year ahead. See you in 2020!

Amy Turk - Trippy, I just discovered this song 2 days ago from The Petersens KZbin channel. I can’t wait to hear your version.
@muzkat1015 жыл бұрын
I have always admired your work on KZbin; you are just amazing to watch and listen to. My all-time favorite of yours is the performance of 'Claude Debussy - Clair de Lune' - your other performance of 'J.S. Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor' just blows me away. I cannot wait to hear your piece on 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' as well. ; )

One of my favorite carols :) "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Wow! Wow! Wow! Absolutely beautiful, I cannot tell you how much your gift has blessed me! So soothing to my soul my spirit delights with joy! Glory to Jesus He delights in you 💖. " Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all. " Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates. ~Proverbs 31:29‐31 NKJV ~ God bless you!

I love "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" for its clean simpleness and its overall sense of deep mourning. This arrangement, while much busier-sounding, is very full of color and has turned out very beautifully! Thank you for your performance!

Just discovered you - I'm a blues/classic rock guitarist and the other day a friend and I were thinking about instruments other than a piano where one can play and arpeggiate chords. They mentioned harp. I realized I know next-to-nothing about the harp. Did a look here on YT and saw your performance of J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor and Debussy's Claire de Lune. I'm hooked! Of course that sent me down a harp rabbit trail: what are the significance of the red and blue strings? Oh, so a harp is tuned in diatonic C major. Oh, so how do you play other keys? Oh, there's a lever harp and a pedal harp. Oh...it's been fun! And it's all been thanks to you! Great job!

Yesterday I discovered you. Not a day went by, and I have become a huge fan of yours. Please... Can you play "The second star from the right", from Peter Pan? It has an emotional meaning for me. And maybe... taking into consideration doing a video in the future, with advices for those who want to start playing the harp... Keep up with the good work. You sound like an angel. Greetings from Romania!
