Remarkably fine pilot! Jack Webb was a stickler for accuracy (and respect) in portraying US law enforcement agencies...and he got loads of cooperation in this series. The late Jack Ging was my wife's friend, and also had a semi-regular role on MANNIX during this time. Gary Crosby handled a shady part well, as did Lana Wood. The story gets somewhat bogged down in the hashish trafficking, but the spectacular finale sequences with the fighter jets were worth the wait. I believe those were two feisty McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs, likely from Yuma. The airfield looks like Southern California. While David Janssen spent his 2 year Army hitch on the ground at Fort Ord, at some point he developed a passion for flying and became a very proficient pilot. THE FUGITIVE allowed him to buy and fly several of his own planes, tho he often lamented being too busy to enjoy them. Pure speculation here, but I believe he actually went up in that fighter jet. He had a lot of clout by then, and no small amount of charm. You can almost tell by the look on his face...pure joy! One little thing they should have added in that end shot with the Fords roaring down the runway: put a couple of THUNDERBIRDS in there! 😁

First aired on April 2, 1971, on The CBS Television Network, the TV pilot to "O' HARA-UNITED STATES TREASURY" (AKA "Operation Cobra") was director-producer Jack Webb's first series for CBS, following his track record on NBC, with hits like "DRAGNET-1967", and "EMERGENCY" (1972-1977), and Webb's last TV series, "PROJECT UFO" (1978-1979, which Webb's Mark VII Ltd company produced, in association with syndication giant, Worldvision Enterprises). "O'HARA" was created by both Jack Webb, and former "BEN CASEY" producer, James E. Moser, and the CBS series debuted on September 17, 1971, and would run for a total of 24 episodes in the 71-72 TV season, and the series was a presentation of Mark II Ltd, and David Janssen Enterprises, in association with Universal Television.

One of the actors in the "O'HARA" TV pilot was Mike Road (1918-2013), with credits going back to ABC's "THE ROARING TWENTIES" (1960-1962), the actor was also the voice of "Race Bannon" on ABC's "JONNY QUEST" (1964), and "Zandor" from CBS's "THE HERCULOIDS" (1967), and its follow-up, "SPACE STARS" (1981), voicing the Zandor character two decades later-all, Hanna-Barbera produced cartoons. Road also voiced "VALLEY OF THE DINOSAURS" (1974), and narrated the NBC science fiction series, "THE FANTASTIC JOURNEY" in 1977-also voicing "The Source" in the series' pilot episode, "Atlantium".

wow, forgot all about this show. It was only on for one season? David Janssen actually did a lot of tv show.

In his short life, Janssen was one of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood. The majority of his roles required a lot of "physical acting," plus being a series lead is demanding in itself. On top of that, he had a bad knee, so those frequent running scenes make you feel for the guy.

@@truthhurtswilky7785 I want to tell you: Ep. 3 "Operation: Stolen Bonds" and Ep. 21 "Operation: Good Citizen" are combined into 1 film and Ep. 6 "Operation: Offset" and Ep. 20 "Operation: Mr. Felix" into another film (syndicated). Are yours segregated?
