I rented this from the video store, back when those were still new, and even as a teen I found it disappointing and have never revisited it. You said exactly what I didn't like about it: it seemed much too shallow, and the relationship between Jack and Lili was so underdeveloped. I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show before Legend and didn't even recognize Tim Curry. It's not just the makeup. He's really one of those actors who disappears into every role and I think he's why The Darkness was, to me, the film's only truly compelling character.

@christopherwaldrop5293 wow, thanks for sharing. You're helping confirm what I'd read about legend online. Some people really enjoyed it though. My sister is 51. I wonder if I couldn't get her with me on youtube to discuss the 80s. Lol

Jack didn't have the confidence to stop Lili from approaching the unicorn. She was a strong-willed teenager who disobeyed her father, the King, sneaking off to the woods. "Neither country proverb nor King's command could keep me from the woods today." However, Jack grows up into a hero during his quest. At first he wants to find a champion to get back the alicorn, but his fairy friends urge him on to do it himself. He gets a big confidence boost after defeating Meg Mucklebones, the swamp hag. By the time he faces Darkness he is ready. (All this is my interpretation of course.)

@v_zach it appears I needed you on the show to banter and discuss this with 😅😅😅 this was probably in the writing at the beginning & I forgot. Sometimes I need to hear the arguments

@@OakesPrincess To be fair, Lili isn't a princess in the US release. That was in the European version and Director's Cut. And it makes a big difference to their relationship when they don't kiss until the end.

@Teletran35 Goonies!!! I've only seen it once, but that would be a fun movie to show my kids and it would refresh my memory of what it's all about

Legend is a classic and one of my favorite 80's films. I didn't get to see it in theaters, and first saw it on cable in 1987. I agree the visuals are what make the movie. Did you watch the US version? I enjoy the electronic soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. The Director's Cut is good too, with a score by Jerry Goldsmith and lots of differences in the story. For example Jack and Lili don't kiss until the end.

@v_zach also, I'm glad you enjoyed the film, was Darkness your favorite character? I'd honestly like to see Tom Cruise do another movie like this. I saw Die Hard for the first time last night. I had never seen it in all these years. He told me it was a Christmas movie. Lol oi.

Lol I love Rocky Horror Picture Show!! It is pretty wild though, so if you ever watch it be prepared 😅. I've seen it in theaters were people dress up and shout things out twice. Tim Curry is great it in, but it is a very sexual movie (just want to warn you a bit if you are curious and watch it, I know you are religious, and it might clash with that a bit) but still a cult classic! And some of the songs are iconic!

@Allyboop lol I love that you warn me. I can be hypocritical sometimes with movies I watch & sexual content, depending on how badly I want to see the film. 🤣🤔 I can probably fast forward through. I may have to check out the storyline, there's so many films to see! Have you seen American Grafitti by George Lucas by chance? That's one of those early 70s films I'm really curious about...
