Day 8, we are structurally built and the roof is water tight.
Time to get some cables run so we can get the insulation fit and think about plaster boarding.
ELECTRICITY KILLS! ONLY COMPETENT INDIVIDUALS SHOULD CARRYT OUT ELECTRICAL WORK.
CONSULT A PROFFESIONAL!!
We use 50mm PIR in the walls and will be using 100mm in the roof.
1mm twin and earth is run for the lighting circuit
Build packs available @

Ordered a build pack (8 x 3.5) and currently getting prices but not going to start until spring and going to use power tools! Fair play to Liam for getting on with the solo build using minimal power tools ,an injured finger, and some very cold days. I've learnt some really useful work arounds though. I didn't realise how current this build was until day 8 last night. this series is seriously addictive.

quick insulation tip. space your walls at 438 centres to give you a gap of 400mm. you get 3 rips out of a sheet with no waste. the dewalt battery table saw is a massive time saver for ripping 2.4 x 1.2 sheets down. Use the vac and no horrible stuff floating about. We do this for roof work and cut the whole stack outside in 15 mins then zero dust to breath in.
@AndiePiercy
@AndiePiercy 2 жыл бұрын
surely you then have a nightmare with the plasterboards?
@shizzleinthenizzle
@shizzleinthenizzle 2 жыл бұрын
yes its a compromise but the cost of inuslation makers it worth it to cut a couple boards.
@Gary-np3ec
@Gary-np3ec Жыл бұрын
Good idea. I prefer to keep on 400 centres and rip the insulation sheet the other way, into 1.2m strips using the track saw. They are easier to fit than a 2.4m length. And not much waste off the full sheet.

Thanks for this series Liam, it's come just at the right time as I'm finally starting my self build. I know it's essential to use treated timber for the base but wondered if you use treated for the rest of the build or switch to untreated c16?
@thegardenroomguru

treated for the base as this is still open to moisture from below. CLS for the walls as this is protected from the elements and like wise for the roof, C16

Have you heard of Quinetic Wireless light switch system, Cuts down on running cable back to the light switch ( obviously on this job might not be economical, but on larger Projects/ Renovation etc) Look up N Bundy Electrical, KZbin. Internal low profile/wafer Led lighting, could save on cutting deep pockets out of ceiling insulation. Great video, learning something New every video.
