Thank you Alex for pointing out that the actors are without guilt and that the blame is to be laid at the writers' feet. And in this show they are almost comically lazy in terms of recycled plots and forced scenes. A shame, especially for the young actors involved. Both Ingram and Blair clearly try their best with the sh*tty material they are been given. Ingram especially has really good voicework, and it feels wasted.

It feels like that’s been a pretty common problem with a lot of Star Wars stuff, it doesn’t matter what acting talent you have, some of these lines aren’t going to sound good (I hate sand, somehow palpatine returned, etc)

@@thematerialfish3105 Agreed. However, I was referring more to plot points, like Palpatine's awfully forced return or that stupid, idiotic knife, rather than silly single sentences. The latter are kind of a constant throughout the franchise (and, at least for me, it is kind of part of the SW charm), while lazy writing seems to be a staple of the last trilogy and, apparently, of Kenobi. To make matters worse, Disney's attitude is not helping: they are calling anyone who criticises the show an incel or a racist, polarizing the fanbase in order to stifle legitimate criticism.

I agree and I also thought it was super strange that they would write ObiWan to have an interest in training Luke, but also write him into a place where he is almost fanatically refusing to do anything Jedi related, whether that be using his lightsaber, force powers, training, or helping people.

Well, he is try to hide the fact he is a jedi though. I understand him not wanting to use it since it's almost like paranoia that someone might see and report him, or something bad might happen. As for Luke, he doesn't have to be the best jedi to teach him, and he also probably is hesitant to teach him because of anakin, even though he may say otherwise.

When it comes to the prequels, nostalgia definitely dons it's rose-tinted spectacles. In retrospect, we all appreciate the story the prequels told and the incredible world-building and the obvious selective cool bits, but overall, they were still badly executed with poor dialogue, wooden acting and a massive overuse of CGI.

There's a difference. And as for Mando, it was good, but has as little to do with Disney Star Wars as you can get. People working on it were basically the same people who worked on the Clone Wars. And if anything, having ONE good show among all the shows and movies you've made in 10 years doesn't make you inconsistent. Mando is an exception.

I think that it would've been a lot better, if the camera panned to Vader's hand, to show him lifting his hand, presumably to Force grab Obi-Wan, but then lowering it instead. That could've resulted in having the audience wonder whether that was bcos he wanted to toy with Obi-Wan or whether it's because there's a part of him that feels conflicted about confronting Obi-Wan again after all this time. But I prolly would've preferred if Vader tortured and killed the villagers in the way he did in order to get Obi-Wan to come out instead Have him confront him again out of disgust for what he just did and to save the villagers, but not able to fight Vader properly bcos he's focused on buying time for the villagers to escape. After that, have the rebel chick surprise them with something explosive, that forces Vader to use the Force to protect himself from the explosion, allowing her enough time to grab Obi-Wan and get out of there on a vehicle. Something along the lines of that.

Agreed. The music which played during Vader's and Kenobi's fight sounded so bland and your usual generic action music. I mean, this was these character's first meeting after Revenge of the Sith, so there should had been more emotion or drama. It felt all just so lackluster to me. It starts to feel like this show's whole point is to just make a new epic duel between Vader and Kenobi, or that would at least be the main focus on this series. Kenobi's story should be the focus. Not Vader, not Reva or the other Inquisitors.

You have to close your eyes to see the force. Obi-Wan will need to retune with the force, which we have seen he's not profoundly in touch, from not connecting with Qui Go and struggling to use force powers.

What is Alex talking about? Leia knew who Obi Wan was at the start of New Hope. In her 'help me' message she called him Obi Wan & mentioned he was a General in the Clone Wars, helping her (adopted) Father. Next, Obi Wan in New Hope knew Anakin was Vader but there's no reason for him to know it was him before this show. It's perfectly acceptable to think Vader was killing some Jedi & Obi Wan is not aware. Why would he know? He's far away & not using the force.

This show should have a film like treatment in terms of production and scope. This is suffering so heavily from the "made for TV" vibe. First part of this episode worked well for me pacing wise and Vaders tone is on point. But the cinematography, the set design and set pieces were extremely uninspired. The end set looked like a fan film on a parking lot unfortunately. Ewan is perfect in his role but much of the rest is letting down this potential. Where is the music? Three episodes in and we haven't had a bar of iconic prequel or OG star wars themes yet. Where is the gravitas, the scale, show me some star destroyers, show me the Empire on full display. George Lucas was fantastic in how he sprinkled little world building details all over the films, creative tech and scenes that make the galazy feel vast and exciting. This show is a carbon copy in presentation and production of Boba and Mando, the shows need their own identity. A six episode event with Ewan and Hayden returning can't be squandered like this, it's a monumental thing for the fanbase, it should have the polish of Rogue One, the production love of GoT. Mando works way better as a smaller more intimate western inspired series. This should have all the love and care of a blockbuster, sadly it doesn't.

Obi-wan's mission for the last decade was to watch and protect Luke. How the hell is he supposed to protect Luke when he's just a broken and beaten man that hasn't used the force in 10 years?!!? If Vader was to find out that his long lost son was at his step-brother's moisture farm. When Vader showed up to claim his son. The Obi-wan that's depicted in this series wouldn't have been able to do a damn thing about it. Just another burnt body beside Owen and Beru.

Yeah, this bothers me as well in how they approached his character. He didn't go to Tatooine to be a hermit and suck his wounds, he went there on a mission, an assignement from Yoda even if you want to see it that way, and he was to look after Luke and likely eventually trained him too (as he said even in this show). The Obi-Wan of this show couldn't do any of that. Now, would he have bee traumatised by the events of the past? Yes, of course, but he is also not a regular person. He is a Jedi trained for all of his life to deal with loss and tragedy, even if it's plausible this would be at the difficult end of that. And we can tell by tone of the movies III and IV that it was more a deep sadness that he carried with him along with him being quite "normal" otherwise. This characterisation just doesn't make sense to me. That said, I'd be okay with that if the show was good otherwise, but that is just not the case sadly.

Which wouldn’t make sense. Obi wan beat anakin at his apex; even the lore states that Vader lost a lot of force potential when he basically became a cyborg. In fact I would argue that Vader is so powerful because all the most powerful Jedi are either dead ( mace windu); hiding (yoda); or completely cut themselves off from the force( Obi wan). The only other force sensitives are either hunted down and killed or put into service of the empire.

What I find very strange is that he initially points out some flaws, then agrees with the points Alex is making, then he starts making excuses for the show and awards it an 8/10. Absolutely baffling, especially as he didn't seem to have the wool pulled over his eyes for the sequel trilogy. This is why i'm so glad Alex is there telling it how it is.

I think the whole problem with Reva is that A; She was written poorly, and B; She just doesn't seem that into it. In a interview before the show debuted, she even said she wasn't a big fan of star wars before being casted as Reva. And that's not an issue, I welcome fans new and old. But I think it would've been better to cast someone who has appreciated star wars as a whole a little bit more than just as a career opportunity.

I mean. . .That scene with the fire. Wholly molly. There was a reeeeeeally easy way to circumvent the cognitive dissidence of Vader just, straight up doing nothing but watching them get away. Just have the women that took the shot to separate them, and have her shoot Vader first. Have her damage the life support system on the suit to weaken him and put him on a ticking clock. It makes sense because he was so fixated on brutalizing Kenobi that he didn't even sense her presence on the hill. Then, after he is weakened, have her take the same shot she did before to start the fire again. The rest of the scene can play out exactly the same, and you still get your fire reflection shot, but now it doesn't feel so. . .Bleh. The tunnel shenanigans could have been solved with a short throw away scene of the woman showing and explaining the the tunnel branches to other spots just in case they need to improvise another path out and or, to confuse any potential pursuers. So simple, and yet they didn't even bother with that and I came up with it within seconds of watching these scenes unfold. . .Ooof.

there was one scene that bothered me when Kenobi was running from vader in the quarry...he runs behind a mound on one direction, then the scne cuts to a slightly different mound, but the mount was on the same side of the screen, and Obiwan runs out into the scene from the same direction he just ran right behind. It looked like he ran in and ran out of the same scene despite being different shots, it looked terrible.

Really hate when a show has so many bad scenes that the fans have to start making interpretations to justify why things happened the way they did. That’s what happens when bad writing takes place in a show. Apart from that, no epic entrance from darth Vader descending to land from a ship, like it’s happened before. No epic music (imperial theme). Scenes getting cut and suddenly the characters appear in other place with no explanation. I really wanted to like this show.

If it is not made clear, why Vader let him go, how the inquisitor knew where the tunnel ended and why Vader has not killed the inquisitor for knowing he's anakin. Because Vader wasn’t trying to kill him he was trying to capture and torture him, Reva has the force which can be a guide for those to find the best path to their destination, we don’t know if Vader knows Reva knows or maybe the inquisitors just know Vader is Anakin (given what they are and who their allegiance is to they would definitely be the least problematic for Vader in terms of knowing who he is).
