The council not investigating what happened to Ani in that moment, to me, is just a plothole. Now, regarding Obi Wan, it would be interesting to explore how much he actively avoided to know. I believe he knew many things were off with Anakin but he just decided to look the other way, probably because of fear. I'm not sure if material touching this matter already exists.

Maybe a bit in the clone wars animation? Obi seemed troubled from time to time with Anakin's actions so yeah I believe too that Obi Wan looked the other way, I wouldn't say out of fear tho. I think it was a bit of attachment with a mix of the faith his master showed in Anakin and the hope that the prophecy, as interpreted by the Jedi, meant that he will follow the right path.

It does exist. In the ROTS novel, Obi-Wan's major flaw is his love for Anakin. He's willing to look the other way too often because Anakin is his little brother. He even confesses as much to Mace Windu. Mace isn't really able to do much about it because he considered Obi-Wan the greatest Jedi apart from Yoda at that point.

​@@Uncivil_Dreams Yes, they are, in fact. The reason the law against false surrenders exists is because it incentivises enemy sides to *kill* prisoners of war. In several CW-era books such as Labyrinth of Evil, the Cestus Deception, Dark Rendezvous and Shatterpoint, the Jedi note that the Clone Wars are fought on a highly unethical basis with both sides breaking all codes of war. That's why Yoda and Mace Windu feared that the war was leading the Jedi to the dark side (where previous wars fought against the Sith in the Old Republic did not, as the Jedi of that era fought ethically).

Wanted to chuck an orphan Annie into the streets of Corsucant where if he's lucky he would be picked up by the Sith. And if he's unlucky be raped, killed, and eaten by mutants, criminals, or worse simply because he was old. And left Luke to die at the hands of Sidious simply because he wouldn't kill Vader. And even after all the shit he went thru. Losing everyone he knew and loved. Being forced to eat lizards and slime for twenty years and the fact that he specifically ordered Obi Wan to raise Luke as a weapon he still refused to train him because he wasn't a baby. He is a sociopath who is too arrogant to see his own flaws because of his dogma.

We didn't get this conversation on-screen and I'm not sure if it occured in any other media, but to me it makes total sense that if Yoda and/or Windu had concerns about Anakin they would have brought them up with Obi-Wan. He was his master, after all. I could see Obi-Wan addressing there concerns to a limited degree, but otherwise covering for him. Much like in that deleted scene with Padme where he admits he always knew about them (am I remembering that correctly?).

perhaps he could've been redeemed on a secluded force planet. where Obi and Ani could've re-centered his attention, focused on becoming the Jedi he wanted to become. away from the politics, away from the temple, away from Padme and Palatine. there was too much going on for him at once, no wonder he didn't stand a change. The council would undoubtably banned Anakin, but if Obi-Wan had kept the tuskan incident to himself for the time being, asked the council for some off world time to trained Anikin. Then returned a head of order 66, Anikin could redeemed himself to the council, the members would have sensed the change in him and the remorse he felt. Forgiven him, granded him the true title of master and definitely turning the tide when order 66 would happen. Becoming a true council member, a jedi master, a husband and a father, like he wanted to. And although he couldn't possibly save every jedi in order 66, he could, would have, restored the balance and the order in the galaxy. Now, I'd pay deep money to watch that "what if" movie....

The council knew of his raw ability... could they have just let him go, especially knowing something was going on and there could be a Sith Lord out there? Could they have just cut Anakin loose and risk him, already largely trained in using the force, falling into the hands of the Sith? I don't think they could or would have... but I don't know what they would have done otherwise. Imprison him? It's definitely something to consider.

Here's a thought, and my idea of what his report was to Yoda and the council. Windu - What happened on Tattooine? Anakin - My mother was kidnapped by Tusken Raiders. I've been having visions of late of her suffering. Yoda - Find her your did? Anakin - Yes, master. The Tuskens had spent months torturing her. I had no more released her then she died in my arms. Yoda - More is there? Anakin - (Lip trembling slightly at reliving that moment) I was caught. They attacked. Windu - Is there more to report, young Skywalker? Anakin - I took her body back to my step-father, and buried her. It was then I got Obi-wan's message and we rushed to help him on Geonosis. Windu - That will be all, young Skywalker. I mean, it wouldn't absolve him of his crimes, but it is possible that he learned enough from Palpatine to reframe it that way and inadvertently use their own blindness in the Force to obscure the real truth. This way, he even admits to kill Tuskens and the basic slaughter of the village without looking bad as they would have tried to capture or kill him too. Any message or checking with his stepdad would have confirmed that much and only Padme or Palpatine would have known about him just wholesale slaughtering the village in revenge.

@@darthhauler9947 I like this, and would have been cool to see a form of this in the film. The only thing I still struggle with in the scenario is QGJ calling out, Anakin no! To me that would have to be a tipping point, I would think. But the way you wrote that out, I can see it getting glossed over or tabled at least with the onset of the clone wars and the way you described the council at the time. Would be a cool animation scene you came up with though. Great suggestion for Theory to do some animation fillers for important scenes we didn't get due to time constraints.

I think some other fan fiction ideas would be “what if Padme was pregnant earlier and gave birth near the beginning of ROTS” I think it’d be interesting to see how Luke and Leia might affect those events.

I would imagine they would have tried to imprison Anakin. Sure expulsion might be fine before the The Phantom Menace since they are gone once they are kicked out and afterwards it's fine for weaker individuals like padawans that are unlikely to be a threat. But would you just cut off one of the most powerful persons in the order knowing there is a Sith Lord out there that will gladly poach that person and turn them against you? Might be also that's why they let a whole lot more slide, because what are your options at that point? Also wasn't Palpatine already meddling enough by that point so that they'd be weary of trying to put Anakin in a prison?

Anakin sowed the seeds of his fate when he *decided* to not tell anyone except Padme when he could have come clean and asked for help. Even if he was convicted of murder, they wouldn't have been able to afford to just let him go untreated for his anger issues. I think Mace Windu especially could have helped him navigate his way out of the uncontrollable rage and fear that led him to becoming Vader. But he never asked for help. He never trusted anyone to help him and Padme was helpless to do so. As for the fanfic, I think they would not have just expelled him but imprisoned him. That would be just. But they would have choice but to try and rehabilitate him. He's too powerful to ignore and if you just lock him up and throw away the key he would grow bitter and you'd likely still end up with dark side Anakin.

Yo, love your channel. Just wanted to say that Yoda's involvement (or lack thereof, in this case) in regard to knowing/sensing Anakin's thoughts and feelings during the slaughter of the sand people was straight *criminal* Huge Plothole. I always wanted (in hindsight) to see maybe Yoda in Episode III to draw together conclusions about Anakin's fate in the Dark Side and understanding the full grasp of how it developed instead of the shock and awe seen Obi-Wan while watching the security recording holograms. It would have gave the audience closure if when Yoda said "If into the security recording you go, only pain will you find" by us seeing maybe a flashback in Yoda's mind to Episode II and Anakin's villain arc.

A fan fic idea I’ve always had (although admittedly dumb) was I’d Luke was somehow idea to go back in time to the clone wars and not only the see the man his father was in his prime but also meet his mother and most importantly warn the Jedi about events to come and how they all respond to this stranger from another time

There are a few possibilities I see. If the Jedi council decides to expel him it could turn back to bite the. It could give Anakin serious abandonment issues therefore making him more vulnerable to getting fully turn to the dark side by Sidious. With his dreams of becoming a full Jedi ruined he would feel betrayed enough. If Obiwan would step in to keep him onboard it would still tread into dangerous waters. 1. The Jedi could use the force to erase his memory of the event similar to Revan from KOTOR. This would play a risk that his memories would eventually resurface. 2. They keep him and spoil him, letting him get away with it. It could create a rift within the order knowing what he did, unless the incident would be kept from the common jedi. The dark would still be within him. Even with Obiwan tuturing him with extra self control. Personally I think that he would still eventually fall to the dark side in all three possibilities.

I'd like to imagine obi wan having a bit of an inner crisis within himself after hearing about what Anikan did. Probably ask himself what qui gon would say or do in this situation . And if he could have prevented it himself if he was more attentive to anikan . Maybe qui gon would echo through the force in his time of crisis a single sentence to help him decide . Like " it's never too late." Or something more fitting . Or perhaps padme would have more of a role in this and actually voice her concerns to Obi-Wan, in hopes that he would know more on how the force works and the visions that he had before his mother's death. I'd like to see her pleading mercy on anikan for being haunted by visions like that would have only ended one way without guidance and understanding .

I had honestly wanted to see this in the Kenobi series; during his training in the desert, Qui-Gon leads Obi-Wan out to the ruins of an old camp; the skeletal remains of Tuskens are everywhere, having been simply left to rot where they died. He then comes to the tent where he finds the structure that Shmi had been tied to, and through the Force senses the pain she went through as the Tuskens tortured her for sport. He sees Anakin free her and break down in tears as she dies, causing Obi-Wan's heart to break with pity. But pity turns to horror as he witnesses Anakin's hate for the Tuskens, butchering them all one by one. With each swing of his lightsaber and a cry from a Tusken, Obi-Wan briefly sees each Tusken as they're struck down as a Jedi Knight that Vader had killed in the Temple. Having enough, Obi-Wan severs the vision. He asks Qui-Gon if he still believes Anakin is the Chosen One, knowing what he had done. Qui-Gon responds that he knows Anakin is the Chosen One. He explains to Obi-Wan that the Force had been out of balance far longer than they had initially believed. The wars between the Jedi and the Sith had plagued the galaxy for centuries. Both sides were in the wrong. The Jedi as Obi-Wan had come to know them did indeed have corruption within themselves and came to rely more on the Order than the true living Force. As the Chosen One, Anakin was meant to balance the scales between light and dark. In doing so, a new order would be born, where the Force is not divided, but in perfect harmony.

I actually think if Anakin went directly to Yoda and told him what happened, he might've helped him. Yoda is very compassionate and I feel like he would've saw the immense struggles Anakin was going through. He would probably make an exception (partially due to him being the chosen one) and sent him on a mission to explore the force and his feelings. Not outright kicking him out, but seeing if he can figure out his path and maybe sending him with a Jedi Master. Maybe sending him with Plo Koon, Quinlan Vos, or Yoda (himself). It also wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility sending him to find the Bendu or the Force Priestesses. I think at the end of the day Anakin needed a master who was not only a father figure but compassionate and understanding of some feelings like love an anger are natural but need to be controlled/utilized to your advantage. This is why Qui-Gon is quintessentially the perfect master, although I don't think Plo Koon is bad shout either.

I think the outbreak of the Clone Wars took priority, leaving the Jedi too overwhelmed to investigate this disturbance in the Force. They likely just pushed the matter to the back burner, until it was too late.

One fanfic idea I had, was Dooku betraying Sidious aboard the Invisible Hand, so he may take Sidious' place as Anakin's master. Anakin flies into rage and kills Dooku, which should end the legacy of the Sith- but Sidious had a contingency plan in case both Sith died. Palpatine's will names Anakin inheritor of all he had, with the late Supreme Chancellor's enormous wealth driving a wedge between Anakin and the Jedi Council. Disgusted with the suspicions and accusations (some true, some false) the Jedi Masters throw at him regarding his close relationship with the late Palpatine, Anakin leaves the Jedi Order. Eventually, Anakin finds the Sith texts, holocrons, and other artifacts Sidious hid in his private residence on Naboo. The former Jedi opens an orphanage, ostensibly to "aid young victims" of the recently ended Clone Wars, but secretly so he may gather Force sensitive children as apprentices for his own Order, one serving neither the Light or the Dark Sides (in Anakin's mind), but his own ideals. What happens when Anakin's Order inevitably clashes with the Jedi Order- or any secret Sith masters and apprentices?

He was a padawan at that point. He would’ve been held back from knighthood further stoking his anger. Eventually over the Clone Wars, as losses of leading Jedi build, he gets knighted after the toughest trials ever. This only adds to his anger and hubris. Palpatine wants him as his guard. He never ascends to the council creating more frustration. ROTS plays out almost the same way.

Qui-gon and Obi-Wan were the only two who really believed Anakin was the chosen one. The other council members were not so convinced. They trusted Obi-Wan to keep eyes on Anakin. Obi-Wan was the one who kept letting things slide; not the entire council. Obi-Wan needed to use 'the rod' on the boy. Instead of treating Anakin like an equal.

If/when you do write it, have Obi Wan plead Anakin's case. The Council would deny teaching Anakin directly as he grossly allowed his emotions to take control, and they would vote to exile him. Obi Wan could plead again to go lenient on Anakin's sentencing, to which the Council could simply remove Anakin from his position on the Council and bar him from conducting himself as a Jedi unless he was explicitly ordered to. That would cause a huge amount of animosity in Anakin towards the Jedi in general and the Council specifically, solidifying his path down the Dark Side.

If the slaughter had happened earlier on, like pre-episode 2, maybe the council would have ejected Anakin from the Order. But the most important fact of the matter is that this was an immediate precursor to the Battle of Geonosis and the Clone Wars. By the time it kicked off and the Order was placed at the head of the grand army, they lost almost 200 Jedi in a single day. At that point the Order was not about to give up their poster child for any reason.

I have to wonder how often this kind of thing happened where a young Jedi makes a bad decision toward the dark side and the council has to deal with it. It could be too big a risk to send them away and into the waiting hands of the Sith, but it could also be something they cannot just let go of. I kind of think they didn't explore because they didn't want to know, They didn't want to find out something that would make them act. But part of me also wonders if this might have been more common than we are led to believe. People are not perfect. Is it really possible that none of them ever had little flirtations with the dark side here and there as they grew and developed? Granted, massacring a tribe of Tuskans is more than a little but still. Surely, Windu with his special ability to channel someone's dark side power back at them had some issues somewhere along the way. Others would certainly could have made a few bad decisions along the way too. If so it would make sense that these occurrences would not exactly be public knowledge.

I think it all started with Darth Bane's rule of two. Making the dark side of the force being only two people, the Living Force will be forced intervene and have influence over events to preserve balance. I've heard that Palp or Dooku might have influenced the tuskens to kidnap Shmi but I think it could have easily just been the will of the force trying to bring the powerful Anakin to the dark to offset the massive Jedi order at the time. I think the Jedi were wiped out because of Palpatine's brilliant planning with help from the Force, I think it was Anakin's destiny to be Darth Vader and nothing the Jedi could have done differently would have helped.

The Jedi were master philosophers, not psychologists. Ignoring and supressing feelings, but feeling deeper than normal. Their lives are such paradoxes. No wonder they failed. Sith embraced feelings. Out of the two, Sith, IMO, are more human.

Another thing to add, the Jedi grew stagnant in their ways and never bothered to improve themselves. The Sith Meanwhile starting with Bane always improved themselves, they learned more they grew more, they were always seeking more knowledge and power in whatever ways they saw necessary. Some grew the Sith in physical power while some chose to increase the knowledge the Sith could pass on to the next. This is how they eventually surpassed the Jedi until with Palpatine where all that went to waste when he fell to the same traps as the Jedi…..ironic. I really really wish we’d get a series live action or animated that explores the Sith way more. I know there’s books but I really want to see it on screen.

Jedi are more taking stoicism to an exaggerated degree, but they are far from less human. Unless you're meaning human in the sense of flawed. Jedi are supposed to control their emotions, which if any character shows this is Obi-wan. Which is very in line with stoicism. Having control of your emotions instead of being controlled by them is something every healthy adult knows how to do at least to some degree. You need to be capable of putting your emotions aside for the betterment of others often in life, you can't be truly be selfless and compassionate otherwise, so it's perfectly logically Jedi take to that ideology. It's just an extreme for an ordinary person, which is where their Monk inspirations really come in. Sith on the other hand are like angsty teenagers who never had a father figure, the only thing that matters to them is their power and emotions. Allowing emotions to control their actions entirely instead of controlling themselves like adults should. It is both a self destructive and externally destructive path in both the media and real life. It's the exact type of people you find in prison. It's basically just hedonism.

I always hated that the Jedi saw the dark side as this path you can't turn back from once you go down it. Kyle Katarn and Mace Windu were both capable of tapping into the dark side of the force without being dominated by it, Kyle was controlled by it at first, but he overcame it and was able to still harness it and use it for the good of the Jedi.

I feel the only way there would have been any kind of good outcome was if Qui-Gon survived. The "Dual of The Fates" was a tongue-in-cheek notion to the fate of Anakin. Anyone else would have resulted in him stepping in the dark side further. Palpatine would have taken advantage, Obi-Won was not equipped to properly guide him, the council made things worse no matter what; so once Qui-Gon died, Anakin's fate was forever sealed.

While I definitely think the council would take action against Anakin if they knew what happened on Tatooine, I don't think it would be as simple as them deciding to expel Anakin from the order, no matter if this were to happen immediately following Attack of the Clones or closer to the events of Revenge of the Sith. At both points, the Jedi are facing a degree of public backlash for whatever reason (in Attack of the Clones, there are not enough Jedi to protect the Republic and keep the peace, then by Revenge of the Sith the Jedi have become soldiers and generals rather than peace keepers, something not all citizens are fond of.) My point being that if the Jedi decided to stick to their principles and expel Anakin for his slaughter of the tuskens, their public image would only decrease, something I'm not sure that they would want to have to worry about, at least not until the Clone War is over and things return to normal.

I don't think they would have just kicked him out. They would have feared his power and locked him up in the Temple Detention Center located in the southwest quarter of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Palpatine would then have a perfect opening to turn him to the dark side. Anakin would have truly felt betrayed by the Jedi and fully embraced the dark side.

If ObiWan had known about what Anakin truly did sooner than later then perhaps he could’ve done something to help elevate him from the Dark path. The Negotiator could’ve spoken to Anakin and help reason with him far better than any other of the Council members. I do see that ObiWan wasn’t ready to take on a padawan, but I also see that he could’ve swayed Anakin with his words of negotiation similar to Yaddle and in some cases Yoda, if he knew the true extent.

I always thought it was weird that with thousands of Jedi (a quote I remember George Lucas saying regarding the number of Jedi during the Prequel era versus the time of Luke in the OT), that Anakin, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon are always before the Jedi Council. I get they are central characters, but this is like constantly being addressed by the CEO of a company, the Supreme Court, etc, etc. Regarding Anakin and the Tuskens, the Jedi would likely imprison him. It's the safest option, you just don't banish a reckless nutjob with so much power like Anakin. Yeah we get he wanted revenge, but he killed the women and children too, and likely the men who had nothing to do with anything, I bet not everyone in that camp were involved in the kidnapping and torture of his mom. Plus, it was clear, none of the 10 years of Jedi training had really much impact on Anakin, given how easily he went for revenge. People in the real world don't even go that crazy after their loved ones had similar fates.

I know for sure they would debate on what to do about Anakin. The Jedi constantly hide their inner struggles from the public. Every organization does. Yoda would also push to keep Anakin. He would need the Jedi now more than ever. Expelling him would definitely push him over to the darkness for sure and Yoda would want to use reason and logic to agree with Obi Wan and making this a lesson in growth and learning from one’s mistakes. Because let’s face it, Mace Windu also dabbled in the darkside of the Force and his Lightsaber reflects that. And maybe Mace Windu would’ve been appointed as Anakin’s new master for special training. Again at the behest of Yoda’s logic. Because who better to teach Anakin control over his emotions and darkness than Windu and his mastery of darkside force use. Mace would definitely have some apprehension about it and maybe some personal dislike but then again Yoda could argue that this could be a learning experience for both Master and Apprentice.

I think the court councils failure to investigate the matter further probably had more to do with the fact at the same time they were mobilising for war with the separatists and became distracted by that and the fact millions of clone soldiers appeared out of nowhere. I guess in their lists of priorities in that time Anakin having what seemed to be a mood swing wasn’t that important. Or it could just be a plot hole 😂

Could Obi-Wan have realized that Anakin’s visions about his mom were true and not just “dreams that pass in time”? Kenobi would have felt remorse for not taking Anakin’s visions seriously, and to some extents would have sympathized, but I think he would’ve gone along with the Council regardless of his own opinions.

Anakin certainly would have been expelled. The real question I have is /how/ the massacre wasn't brought to light. Red tape, perhaps? Or perhaps this is /why/ Palpatine knew of what happened as Anakin went to him to help cover everything up. Makes sense, granted Anakin knew what his fate would have been otherwise and he was desperate to see it swept under the rug.

I do think that Obi Wan would have fought for Anakin if he had realized what happened in its entirety, after he was captured. Because Anakin was far enough along within his force powers to be a very serious danger to himself and to the universe if he was abandoned at that time, rather than given guidance that could help him come to terms with some.of the darkness he had lost himself too. I don't think the council would willingly let him go back to his old life either. Even if he had somewhere to go back to, which he didn't. They never truly let anyone go, once they had that kind of power. Either they would try to imprison him, causing a massive clash, causing great death and damage; forcing palpatine to get involved to save him from execution; or he escapes and then becomes hunted, until someone can aid him and get him out of public view; or they would have tried to send him to a location where he would be away from such influences and others who could cause him greater temptation, which Anakin would have rejected and tried to escape from. Fleeing to somewhere he felt safe, until he could reunite with padme and the chancellor. All on all, unless they wanted to execute him, or keep him in carbonite; or they would have to choose to protect him and train him so he didn't become a greater threat, salvaging what they could.
