Pro-Tip: You can also use the attribute increasing birthsigns to counteract the penalties that certain races have.

One of my favorite builds to run with is a High Elf with the apprentice birth sign. You get 300 magicka at the start. However, you run the risk of being one shot by some spell casters. Which is a thrill I enjoy when playing a mage.

I like to go down a step and pick Breton male with the apprentice birth sign. 250 magicka and 50% magic resistance. With a Mundane ring, 100% magic resistance completely negates the 100% weakness to magic because the game checks resistance before weakness.

@@maxwellhill4754 It's true ; I just checked UESP wiki. When your hit with offensive magic, the game first checks if the player has Reflect Spell, the magnitude is the % chance to succeed. It then checks for Absorb Spell and the % chance to succeed. Finally the game checks Resist Magic. No % chance to succeed, it always works. So my Breton Apprentice, just starting out, gets hit by a 100 point frost spell. I fail the first 2 checks and it sees my 50% resistance and halves the power to 50. Then it sees my Weakness to Magic and doubles the damage, back to 100. Once I get my ring (Lvl 20) that same spell would be reduced to 0 and the 100% Weakness would double the 0.
