If you still can't get it though, then It's a good idea to grab the Skeleton Key from Nocturnal. Or level Alteration and make a very hard lock open skill. Both of those require a high level or a lot of time however. So it is best to familiarize yourself with how lockpicking works. Good content.
@wtpiv6041 Жыл бұрын
Currently on my first ever playthrough of Oblivion. Joining the Thieves Guild has been a real challenge all due to the lockpicking. I never have to invest pints into it in Skyrim or Fallout 4, but Oblivion’s lockpicking is way harder. I enjoy a challenge but I think I’m timing it wrong. Thanks for the guide, seems I’m hitting it way too early.

@ivanvolkov18203 жыл бұрын
Honestly, i didn't even bothered myself to perceive all those speed&sound patterns; rather than doing so, i've been trying to puck the lock as fast as could, spending tens of lockpicks (and the bounty didn't even cover the cost of them). Thanks! Indeed, the patience is a key to any lock...
@youssefa.22516 жыл бұрын
I like the new intro! Logo is quite cool aswell! I usually go with intuition, anticipation and luck. But you can also just press start when pushing it above, if it's halfway there, exit the pause and press the action button. if it's already up when you pause, repeat. You can unlock very hard locks with just one pick lock if you're getting the hang of it!

Thanks very much. I hadn't played the game since it was released years ago & one thing which made me avoid it was the lockpicking minigame. I didn't know you needed to click or hit the button when the tumbler was reaching the top. The result was I never had a single tumbler lock into place. I would just buy lots of picks & auto-attempt (or use magic) because I didn't understand the process. It was much more like Morrowind lockpicking in that regard. Just click it until something happens. Going back to old Elder Scrolls titles for the first time in many years & this should help me enjoy the game much more.
@burgerbait2 жыл бұрын
I was just watching how locks are picked irl and thought maybe the fact that Oblivion lets you choose the tumbler that there was more depth to it and closer to irl lockpicking. Good to know none of that matters and I've been doing it right all these years.

Another method you could try is duping the lockpicks until you have an unerasonable ammount, then just spam auto attempt until it unlocks. This also levels up your security fairly well, especially if you have a low skill and are attempting to unlock a very hard lock.

if theres a pattern its too hard for me to tell, it seems to randomly change whenever i get it down, plus my reflexes are so bad i end up wasting dozens of picks on an average lock, -yet auto attempt is still worse somehow,- and that is why alteration is the best school nvm i'm WORSE than auto attempt. after messing around in the lockpick testing hall, it's atrocious but at least its not losing 10+ picks with security as a major on an AVERAGE lock

I thought it was pretty simple from what I remember, you push the pins up, if they stay, you're good on that one, if they fall down slowly, you should raise that one and move to the ones that fall quickly, if you're quick enough, all of them are up and you're good to open..am I wrong?

Lockpicking is incredibly frustrating. I've cursed and smashed the desk when it turned out the chest only had junk in it after finally unlocking. I am unable to react to the sound alone. The round-trip time through the brain is too long. Normally we follow motion with prediction. When the lock is on the easier side, I try to take the next bounce after noticing the slowest one. It usually happens to be fairly slow too.
