Very minor detail but looks like the ‘Level Up’ indicator as well as the leveling progress bar seem to be misaligned/not center aligned on the UI. Might just be me but check out 7:55. Looks like the entire ‘level progress’ component (bar and the text) are centered, but the bar is not centered with the health bar below. Can’t remember if that’s how it was done in Skyrim but it caught my eye.

These modders are doing it for the passion of it, using their free time and not making money from it. Sure, Devs often have a passion for their work, but the passion for your job and passion for a project you'll voluntarily doing are two completely different types of passions. One is for the love of it and the other is to ensure everyone gets paid who needs to be paid and to make sure the company makes enough money that it doesn't go bankrupt by either crafting a game that didn't sell as much as they hoped or something like Covid happens. On a side note, the Devs typically aren't to blame, the blame should fall on the CEOs and the shareholders/banks.

@@glazzy4826I imagine that may have just seemed practical at the time given the enormous number of lines recorded for Oblivion relative to Morrowind. It would have been intimidating and perhaps there was concern around time. I’m sure if they could do it again, they would do some more takes.
@nescirian Жыл бұрын
In at least some games, the problem is a literal complete lack of direction - VAs are given their lines and read them, sometimes without even the context of the rest of the dialog. I don't know if that was the case for Oblivion specifically, but there are certainly lines in this video where that sounds like the case (e.g. "I want to go to fisherman's rock, where's that?" is delivered as if she's reacting to a place weebum-na has just mentioned, rather than as if she's demanding directions to a place that's the whole point of the conversation). I phrased this in the present tense as if it's an ongoing problem in games, but I think it is actually a bit better these days. It used to be very common though.

@pilz4566 Жыл бұрын
@@peterlewis2178 how is the original voice acting terrible?
@peterlewis2178 Жыл бұрын
@@pilz4566 It's just generally low quality. That's not really to say the voice actors were necessarily bad, it could have been how little direction they had, as was often with video game lines at the time. Often the voice actors would have to record lines with 0 context, and only do like 1 or 2 takes, and then move on to the next line. Not a method very conducive to immersive and realistic voice acting. From my memory (and seeing here), it's mostly just that the voices are way too "put on", like someone's trying to act, not actually embodying the character. There's a lot of more monotone delivery, or it's just not very expressive. Or it's way too expressive in an unrealistic way. Other times it might jump from one extreme to another in a jarring manner. And it didn't help that there were so few voice actors having to put on all the voices, so there was a lot of repetition and monotony in that regard. Mind you, I don't think this is a problem specific to Oblivion. I think Skyrim's voice acting isn't great either, though I do think it's better than Oblivion's. And in general, video games just tend to lack the kind of quality voice acting that you'd find in film and tv (though there are exceptions).

Because the way Bethesda recorded all of the dialogue was done alphabetically instead of a natural flow chart or similar. It's not that its terrible, it just the flow of conversation and the shift of tones of the voice can be rough. Like sounding pretty nice in one conversation and then angry in the following line or so.@@pilz4566

I was obsessed with using graphics mods in oblivion to make everything look better. I remember this tree mod and increasing the distance you could see really blew me away and i even showed my dad…. This wouldve just stopped my heart if i couldve played oblivion like this. I really love armours youve worked on in the game, they look great and really make this feel different than skyrim.

What would be more fun is making it a part of Skyrim itself. Like a distinct worldspace to access from skyrim. Wouldn't that be fun? You xan go from Skyrim to Oblivion seamlessly! I know there's thousands of years of time between them, but i'm sure there's a way to make it logical (maybe we travel to the past through M'aiq the Liar or the Augur of Dunlain, or preferably Akatosh himself!)

Honestly got a bit of whiplash seeing this after all the previous projects at Creation Mod Con. Everything prior to this looked like a student project or a 3d art portfolio in the guise of a playable skyrim mod. This was the first and only mod shown that actually looked like a professional, real, FUN video game that actually has a chance of coming out ever (2025 release year, baby!). Definitely your editing style and talent plays a huge part but I know from watching streams that the level of professionalism is pervasive in the whole team, even newcomers on the less player-facing stuff like navmesh. It's a culture and it gets me very excited because it feels like one with a LOT of forward momentum -- this project is coming! The end is in sight!

Yes but the new projects are going to take much less time. The big ones have developed INSTITUTIONS, democratically collaborative groups (Beyond Skyrim *literally* has a constitution lol) that won't fail if one or two main people jump off to mod starfield or whatever, and a culture of sharing tools and resources, and support, and techniques, and voice acting has never been easier to get. I'm really confident about quite a few of these projects
