Thank you so much for this! Also, for those who ask, the wheel definitely does NOT play favorites: I have been pestering Sean about Omega Boost for the better part of a year. No, seriously, go back and look at the comments for previous volumes of this series - I got obnoxious about it, and I'm surprised he didn't just pull it from the wheel to spite me. 😅

That 2d version is a different game. And they fit it on the GBA by taking a huge dive in variety. The enemy repetition is painful, even by beat-em up standards. (Still a great tech demo, though.)

Still love Gekido ^^ a shame you couldn't unlock the playable bosses (one of which is "Donkey Kong") cause they're a lot of fun, but maybe someday ^^ It holds a special place in my heart not just because it's an aweosme beat 'em up, but it also introduced me to Fatboy Slim's "Love Island", love that track and also, because it has posters from Shadow Fighter, NAPS's fighting game for the Amiga, which was one of my fav games for the system, it was really a nice easter egg to find ^^

I have to commend NAPS for managing to replicate (sans the OST) the feel of the Japanese beat 'em ups down to a tee. :0 Really, quite a feat during the era. I'm sure we were all rooting for Omega Boost, and the wheel has delivered indeed! Hell yeah, new Obscure & Forgotten PS1 Games! Hope the wheel enjoyed its vacation(s). 😁 Game #1: This looks like a nice first-person helicopter flying action game. Game #2: Man, I've heard about that game so much before and how bad it is, but your review has to be the first one to be a proper insight (at least from the ones I've watched). I can't remember the stuff like the flying or minecart sections. Game #3: I love beat'em ups, so this is right up my alley. Now to be fair, it is mostly 2D beat'em ups I love but I don't mind 3D ones either. This looks like a nice game. Gives me some slight Fighting Force vibes. Game #4: Okay, let's start off by saying how absolutely amazing the intro music is...IN ALL 3 VERSIONS!!! I love how easily you can spin around with that mecha. Also, "Threads of Fate" was so close to being chosen by the wheel. Thank you so much for another very informative and very entertaining video about (obscure & forgotten) PS1 games!

Man, your excellent Psygnosis video showed up in my feed like a week ago and I've worked my way through all of your obscure Playstation videos and am halfway through Japan. Not only is your content awesome for someone like me who got a PS1 for Christmas as a middle schooler, the visual and sound design you use in your videos, I just really dig them. Also being a tiny KZbinr (trying to get back into it), it's really inspiring to see a tiny channel putting out so much quality in looooong videos. I don't want a Tik Tok, I want a movie, and the wheel provides. You deliver, just want to say thanks. My picks for Obscure and Japan: Obscure: Guardian's Crusade, a Tamsoft RPG I adored as a kid. Japan: Simple 1500 Vol. 94, The Cameraman. The most relevant game I've ever seen.

Black Dawn's soundtrack slaps so much because it was composed by Tommy Tallarico of Earthworm Jim's fame (and Pac-Man World). Speaking of Earthworm Jim: that bungee battle in Cheesy looked ripped straight out of Earthworm Jim one (Snot A Problem). And finally, after so much demand from many of us, Omega Boost got featured, praise the wheel! It's a shame Polyphony has forgotten their past, they can't even bother to at least include some form of Easter Egg in their newest Gran Turismo entries referencing either Omega Boost, or Tourist Trophy, or heck, Motor Toon Grand Prix...

Ahhhhhh glad Omega Boost came up! I remember you recommending it to me so I knew it was one you were itching to talk about! Another absurdly varied lineup. Is it bad I knew exactly what tier Cheesy was going in before you placed it? 🤣 Gekido is interesting, as it sounds like it had the opposite problem of Crisis Beat which I recently played. That one had infinite continues, which while much less frustrating, did dampen replay value for me. It's a shame as it looks like I'd enjoy Gekido - until I snapped one of my controllers in frustration! Another excellent episode, all praise the wheel!

I'm saying this because I see a lot of people who don't know or don't remember a time where 3d games where new in a mainstream way, the idea that you could display spherical abstracts opposed to flat stuff was dimension changing psychologically. like i remember looking at everything before it as a dark age. that 3d was the new world to my child mind and the future looked so bright, then for me I learned a few years later the internet. I remember the shift vividly. I still stand in reverence to information presented by light.

I bought many CDs from bands of this soundtrack so much it impacted me (Funeral For a Friend, Eighteen Visions, Atreyu, Silent Drive,...). I never palyed Gekido nor Omega Boost, but just hearing the soundtracks I felt something special with those games, specially Gekido with that old shool nu metal sound, I immediatly and completly fell in love with that, I grew with this sound

Finally! My day has come! Omega Boost in all its glory! For my next suggestion, let's go spooky with either Koudelka or Tecmo's Deception (which, fun fact, actually needed to have a warning label in North America for satanic content) - whichever is more obscure/hasn't already been chosen for the wheel! Also, you're right about the speed changes for Gekido. I watched this episode with my brother, who has worked for a certain large game developer whose initials start with an E and end with an A, and he said that, since it was a small PAL developer, they probably didn't have the resources/testing capability to tune it for the North American market. Also also, I'm almost certain I recognize the wall vine texture in some of those Cheesy clips. I think it might have come from the first Pandemonium. Another great video, and I cannot thank you enough for the shout out for my Divide video!

Don't mention it buddy, it's the defacto Divide video on the internet and I think its worth checking out. Both are great choices but since we already have Koudelka on the list, so its gonna be Tecmo's Deception. Trap time for all!

@@SeanSeanson I really appreciate that! Thank you! I promise I won't be as annoying about Tecmo's Deception, as I was about Omega Boost. Sort of. We'll see. 😁😅

Currently my favourite series on KZbin. This is fantastic. I've just put bids in for both Black Dawn and Treasures of the Deep, they both looked like games which are right up my street. Was going to start work on a game very similar to Treasures of the Deep after I finish my boomer shooter, so it will be great to have something to play so similar. Only other similar game I've seen is Diver's Dream.

The difficulty in Urban warriors is exactly why I love having save states as an option. I'm too old and have too many games to try to care about the sanctity saves in retro games.

Damn called it from the intro that cheesy was by the sleepwalker team, it had the same problem with momentum too iirc

Gekido! The sound effects to that thing are seared into my brain. I was with a mate when he was buying cheap games in the Co-Op with his pocket money, and we narrowed it down to either Gekido or Ridge Racer Type-4 cuz his mam wouldnt let him get both. Obvs we went with Gekido - didn't even regret it, despite how great RR4 is (which I didn't learn til 20 years later but whatevs). Great for co-op (ha).

I had the fortune of olaying Omega Boost back in the day, it always baffled me (and the owner of the store where I bought it) that such marvel ofba game wasn't an instant hit. Showing it to my step-son, he thought it was a ps2 game, so... yeah... some random kid has better judgement than magazines of that time

Man, Feeder really were out here making 1993 videos in 1999 eh? Kinda missed the boat on that one lads. Also thank you as i was losing my mind thinking "didn't Feeder do the intro to Omega boost?! Whats this nu-metal stuff??". From a fellow IE creator who also earns zero ad revenue, Great work!!

It's not just you, NTSC Gekido actively drops your inputs compared to the intended PAL timing due to the input buffer not properly adjusting alongside the speedup, similar issue happened to Medievil, Frogger and other unoptimized PAL to NTSC ports. (side note, it should be easy to port the ntsc soundtrack to pal if anyone wanted to)
