The love and passion of fans is unbeatable and I kind of hate how the industry loves bashing them so much. Thanks for giving these projects recognition.

Well said Sean. I feel like we just got almost 50 new releases for the PSX this year. And the innovation and creativity of these early games holds up so well today, where game mechanics are so similar and most innovations now are just in resolution. This and how easily it emulates on any system makes it ace even today. And not for nothing- but as an American trying to survive suffocating prices I went off grid 2 years ago, using 100% solar wind and thermal. So being able to play all these amazing retrogames on my flat screen via the psclassic all day & night doesn't even run down one single rv battery fully. You could literally run a 1meter flat tv and the psmini off your car battery for hours at full volume camping in the woods with your mates without endangering the battery. An episode idea maybe?

6:10 this year i played baroque all the way to the true ending with 2 of my best friends, on a softmoded ps2 using POPSTARTER through SMB, works flawlessly, and i can't recomend it enough, its a really beautifull game, its has a solid art Direction and its a really cool example of a roguelike in the ps1. but play it with a guide because its really really cryptic and convoluted. The translators did an excellent job translating the cutscenes and superimposing english text, look really good. Also the font its beautiful. Love your channel Sean, i always come here to look for the next game to play.

Thank you so much for this video and thanks so much to all translators! Oh man, Goemon: Shin Sedai Shuumei. That was also one of the first openings of Japanese PS1 games I have favorited (well, it was like the 4th or so, which is I didn't mention that recently on Twitter). Kitties spotted at 26:01, 27:53, 28:54, 35:18 and 35:20(does that count?) Thank you so much for all your videos this year and I wish you and your beloved ones (obviously, that includes your cats) a lot of health and luck for next year. Edit: I would love to see the 3x3 Eyes games fan-translated.

Really glad you gave a shout out to the Hill Top video. The amount of work they put in goes underappreciated, often giving a second life to forgotten games. I'm big on dungeon crawlers and the surreal Nemuru Mayu has been on my radar for quite some time. I'd love to see it receive a full translation.

A great endong for 2022 by Sean! Consider it a weird wish, but I'd like to see fan-translation of all games in one genre, i.e. car racing games (there are some cool stuff like Touge Max 2 and G, Initial D), shoot 'em ups or fighting games. Maybe like, 1 or 2 teams just focused on one whole genre and they could pump in 1 game in 1-2 months

Honestly freaked that I nominated Aconcagua for your Viewer Wheel, knowing the VOs were in English, but realising the text was not. Glad to hear it's fully playable in English now. What an odd mix of games, but props to all the hard workers making these games more playable for us Gaijin.

I swear, many of those JAP box art looked like they come out of some experimental music CD album, while there are also things that looked like they come out of a painting, wish more game dev, publishers, or sony themselves would release box art like that, or at the very least a special edition variant.

Honestly it's wonderful how many translations and availability for all sorts of older media is becoming more of a thing, it's been good eating the past year. Just recently a PC game i've been interested in called Midgard from 1998 got translated into English for the first time and it was a fun experience (even wrote about it over on the community blogs in Destructoid for those interested). Happy new year Sean! Your videos are always a relaxing and enjoyable treat! Hope this year and the following are all good to you.

Here's hoping next year, you do a video like this that includes Boku no Natsuyasumi, London Seirei Tanteidan, Kowloon's Gate, Fuuraiki, Happy Salvage, Matsumoto Reiji 999 - Story of Galaxy Express 999, Captain Love, Ningyo No Rakuin, Robbit mon Dieu, Yuuyami Doori Tankentai / Moonlight Syndrome / All three Twilight Syndrome games, Ao no 6-gou - Antarctica, Velldeselba Senki - Tsubasa no Kunshou, Gunparade March, Doko Demo Issho, Circadia, Robin Lloyd no Bouken, Oz no Mahoutsukai - Another World - Rung Rung, Planet Dob, Reikoku - Ikeda Kizoku Shinrei Kenkyuujo and Shiritsu Justice Gakuen - Nekketsu Seishun Nikki 2. The PS1 translation scene is booming and I hope it continues that way. There's still a lot more to go.

"Planet Laika" has been a strong experience for me, it really makes us feel powerless in the middle of a collapsing world. Concerning the translations I would like to see in the future, I'd say "Germs", "Kowloon's Gate" and "Boku no Natsuyasumi".
@mariusamber3237
@mariusamber3237 Жыл бұрын
I believe all of those have active translation projects right now, so there's a good chance we're gonna see them within the next few years... Germs and Kowloon's Gate are probably the closest to completion, too. Boku no Natsuyasumi has loads of text, so that one's probably still far from done.

The Super Robot War/Taisen series of games is notable because it's DUE to fan translations that we got the latest one, "Super Robot Wars 30", in the West. Aeon Genesis, who has done numerous translations, is noted for producing translations (and good ones, too) for many of the series' older titles, including the fan favorite Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden. Apparently Banpresto and/or Namco-Bandai caught wind of this, having just released a version with a poorly done English translation for "Super Robot Taisen Original Generations: The Moon Dwellers". However, the game still sold well enough to make management see that having an English translation would generate more than enough additional sales to justify the cost. So instead of hurling a cease-and-desist letter at Aeon Genesis, the company (probably) approached the head translator for the group with a job offer - he would work at Banpresto to make an OFFICIAL English translation for their next game, "Super Robot Wars V". When that game was released, its Korean(?) version came with an English language option, and it was leagues better than the one for Moon Dwellers. Each game after that continued to break import sales records (and sales records overall), thanks to a growing import market. Finally, Namco/Bandai decided to take the plunge and make an official WESTERN release for Super Robot Wars 30 on Steam. That game has since outsold its previous record-holder, Super Robot Wars Alpha. So cheers to Aeon Genesis for convincing Banpresto that even the West loves its giant robots.

Ehhhh... i do still believe Wonderful is a worthy sequel of Choro Q 3 even if it can be a bit confusing at times what you have to do. At least once you remember the order it becomes more managable. The only thing i wouldnt forgive is the part where you have to remember the music, which i had to literally use a notepad to write all of the combinations over and over again. Its honestly imo one of the most underlooked and one of the most impressive games on the system but i could agree in that its not as refined or accessible as Q3.

Love these translation videos. I'm always looking for obscure PS1 games and these are about as obscure as they come. Germs has been high on my list since I found out about it last year so that's pretty damn great news but I think Robbit Mon Dieu has to be my most wanted translation. Jumping Flash was one of the 3 games I got with my PS1 and I've loved it ever since so I'd love to have a chance to try out the third in the series. Bonus extra game (PS2 so slightly cheating), Hungry Ghosts. Think there was a translation being worked on a while back but it got abandoned as far as I'm aware

I started doing something similar (only not on camera and more in private), where I just download a bunch of retro ROMs (NES, SNES, genesis,ps1,ps2, GameCube, and so on), I randomly play games and choose them by a random number generator, and the game I liked I order them from eBay, online stores, or just hunt in the wild to make a collection I'm proud of (had to finish them as a personal rule, the very bad that I feel suck the soul of me, I gave them one or 5 levels depending on the average time to beat a level), I always feel guilty when I accumulate a backlog and think that those same games would be better with someone with the time to play and enjoy them. my collection can be considered small as of now (102 games stretched between 11 systems), but I see it as a way to save money, and by spending less, I can afford to myself the more expensive good games that I like.

Personally, I’d really love to see the Densha de Go games translated. They’re quite playable without knowing the language, but an English version would make them much more enjoyable. The N64 version has been translated and the PC version of Densha de Go final was released the other week. But I love the PS1 games in the series the most.

The only thing I have to say is...Thank God all of these games were featured on the Playstation. If these were fan translations of Nintendo games they would be firing up the lawyers. Addendum- I wonder if the secret "Beavis dies in a bathroom" is accessible in this version of the game. Basically it was a hidden easter egg that had you clicking random things in the bathroom. If done correctly Butthead will pull out a Spas 12 shotgun (not kidding) and blow off Beavis's head. He then says "Fuck you Beavis!" It is both hilarious and very, very dark. I believe you get a Game Over if you do this. Seriously, look it up here on KZbin It's crazy.

Happy new year ♥ Please cover more bad games ♥, when you cover good games it's less enchanting to me because I love when people give bad products a decent, objetive look. and your videos are among the best I've ever seen ♥

2 things I should mention. 1) Digimon isn't really a "Monster collector" like Pokemon is. Collecting is more Pokemon's thing, Same relative genre but... as a Digimon fan I've had my fair share of bad faith comparisons from certain Pokemon fans. 2) I believe the proper term is Dissociative Identity Disorder, haha.

1). Depends on the Digmon Game. Plenty allow you to collect multiple monsters and form a party. It's not strictly one way or other but to say the series doesn't feature monster collection elements in its video games would be incorrect. Digmon World 2, Digimon World 3, Most of the DS games, Cyber Sleuth, etc. That doesn't mean they're Pokemon-likes by any means though, it's more of a catch-all term for the elements featured. The same could be said for Jade Coccoon and most Megami Tensei games. 2). I Appreciate the correction, I'll remember that going forward :)

@@SeanSeanson I'm just saying, as a whole, it isn't a Monster collector like Pokemon. Outside the games, the anime isn't about collecting (Hunters got close, though), and the few manga I've either read or heard about doesn't feature it at all as well. Even the original V-Pets aren't really "monster collectors", they are monster raising. To be more clear, I am saying that Pokemon *is* a monster collector, and it is part of it's identity, while Digimon dabbles in it but is largely not about monster collecting. As for the whole DID thing, I just remember some instances of people making the same correction. I wasn't being too serious about that but while "Multiple personality disorder" could be use I think DID is the actual official term. If they hadn't changed it since I last saw it.
