Seat had one obscure GT car before the Cupra GT, the Toledo GT, and was in GTR2 and GTR Evolution. Actually a Lexus ISF car raced, in 2009 in Speed World Challenge.

Speaking of SEAT and the GTR game franchise there's also the mid-engined Toledo GT which competed in the G2 class of the 2003 Spa 24h. I believe it's the blue car at 7:03

I was just driving the Lexus DTM car in GT6 literally 2 days ago. There was also supposed to be a Lexus entry into the ALMS that never materialized, but it appears one of the cars built for that program found its way into the SCCA World Challenge instead. I did not realize the SEAT raced at all in real life. I thought it was just a concept car. Along those same lines, the Koenigsegg CCGT deserved a mention. Anyone who attended Road Atlanta in the 2000s knows all about Panoz, but they're probably best known for their relatively huge presence in racing games for such a small company. The Abruzzi as depicted in Forza 4 definitely had a more obscure racing history than the Esperante, considering it barely ran. I think the Esperante GTLM was around for about 6 seasons in the ALMS after the brand had already established itself in other categories, and it was kind of the 3rd option besides Ferrari and Porsche for several years before GT2 saw a huge influx of manufacturers at the end of the decade.

Older GT games had some of the more obscure racing cars like Venturi Atlantique 600 LM, Vector M12 GT2, Ford Saleen SR GT2 (All in Gran Turismo 2) and Gillet Vertigo in later games.

The think is they are not that obscure for the manufacter point of view . Venturi just raced there roadcar , Gillet 2 . The seat is unique cause it’s baised on nothing and you don’t expect it from seat. Same with Lexus.

Basically every single Car here is a assetto corsa mod too. If you have a simracing wheel you can try them out and if they are any good give you an actual idea how it might have driven. The TVR has a mod, the Morgan has a mod, The panoz has a really good mod funnily enough, the seat cupra gt is a bit questionable but its also in assetto corsa, and the lexus also is a mod in assetto corsa. I know its not exactly the premise of the video, but its a weird feeling knowing each and every single one of these cars through assetto corsa, and having given each a few laps around a track.

Maybe you could do a video on planned or even built racing cars that never raced. Cause for DTM alone, there are more cars than the Lexus concept. Zakspeed for example had a ready-made Volvo C70 for 2000. But because it had no backing by the manufacturer and used a Judd V8, which didn't quite fit the regs, it wasn't allowed to race. Ford also had a Mondeo prototype ready for 2001. But they, too, didn't race that car. While the Zakspeed-Volvo and the Ford have appeared physically, the planned MG ZT entry from 2005 is even more mysterious. Apart from concept drawing, there hasn't been any sighting of a built MG DTM car. Then there are of course the Audi and BMW cars for the 1993 season, which were built, but ultimately not raced, cause both manufacturers were at odds with the organizers at that time.

Love your content, and great to have two videos within 24h. :D As a german i would have loved to see that Lexus run in DTM. I was super hyped in 2019 when DTM and Super GT raced together. But sadly it didnt last long at all. In my imagination its was the perfect match, DTM and Super GT together just made sense. Audi, BMW and Aston Martin (sadly no Mercedes 😟 ) race against the three big Japanese (Toyota, Honda, Nissan). Big media exposure on two big car markets for all those brands and if it would have worked it might have also attracted brands from more countries. In theory it sounded so great and i loved it, but well... it just fall apart so quickly. At least it's (sort of) possible in GT7, since they added the Audi Group 1 car from that period, which was equivalent to the GT500s of Super GT, and put them in the same in-game class (Gr.2). They also have the CLK-LM and F1-Longtail in that class too!

Class 1 cars are so cool. I wish it was possible to enter with them in WEC since they are about as quick as the Hypercars. The pole time of WEC in Fuji this year was 1:27.7 and so was SuperGT's pole time this year at the 4th round.

Now an interesting fact: DTM cars at the time the Lexus ISF was unveiled looked similar to the Stock Car Brasil cars, which is a brazilian touring car championship like DTM. The car the Lexus tecnically was (the Opel Vectra), was sold in brazil under the chevy brand and if im correct, also run in Stock Car Brasil

Some of the real cars like the Panoz, the Morgan, and the TVR I remember from the Le Mans races, staying up all night seeing them race on television. I was into car racing video games for a while, but not for long, so, no wonder I don't necessarily remember the video game cars. The Lexus is incredible! It is a shame they did not race that in the old DTM Class 1 touring car regulations. But then again, as you mention, Toyota had their F1 program, and now, they have a couple of sports car programs between their LMP1, which morphed into Hypercar, program, and the GT3 customer program with the Lexus RC F GT3 which began in IMSA and will continue there while also branching off into WEC and other GT championships. SRO and Super GT GT300 come to mind.

Since I live (relatively) close to the factory, I hope SCG gets featured in more games in the future. I know the SCG 003 was relatively popular in sims (and even has an homage in GTAV), but I would love to see more of their planned road Supercar (SCG 006) or even The Boot, a wild off-roader that did pretty well in Baja!

speaking of asphalt 9 the good stuff shown in this sponsor: it has gt racing cars, lmps, some obscure supercars and homologation specials cons: its a mobile game massive paywalls. worse than that, you might not be able to get these shown special cars without paying real cash (like the XJR-15 and the CLK GTR Strassen, which can be obtained by A GODDAMN PASS. let me say this again, A SEASON PASS.) limited race entries, pay2win, questionable car classification (ex: mc12 is in c class while its test mule, enzo is in class b) you can't play it everywhere because its online only (unless you got cellular data or you're using a nintendo switch), literally. just stay away from that game lol, instead, just buy GRID Autosport (if you have a powerful phone), and the next time you're watching an another IMSA full course caution and your phone doesn't have data yet (unless you're lucky to find wifi somewhere), you can just go for a quick game in GRID without any money-wasting mechanics asphalt has to offer.

and speaking of asphalt games, back then in asphalt 6 and 7, it does have a handful of track day specials, concept cars, and even racing cars, which includes GT and LMP that you can get without wasting too much real money (only one LMP car is only in A6 (which is the Bentley Speed 8, same goes to the its other DTM car, C-Klasse DTM too), if we're not counting its other disastrous counterpart that is Asphalt 3D and its "once a pay-to-play game without nuisances, and now a free-to-play money disposal" sequel after A7, Asphalt 8)

love your videos stijn, that lexus is a massively missed opportunity imo. i hadn't heard about the cupra GT since i last played forza motorsport 1, but it's presence in national GT series due to a lack of road going version really reminded me of another car. i remember you briefly mentioned it in your le mans commodore video, but i personally think the holden monaro 427C deserves it's own video. it's probably the biggest what if story in australian motorsport, as plans for the 50 FIA homologated road cars were made (concepts/protos completed and 80 orders were taken), which would have allowed this car to go and race throughout europe. i think it had massive potential, as here in australia they drove the thing so gently and it still won the bathurst 24 hour by 12 laps. it was truly a monster, very reminiscent of the oreca vipers. keep up the great work mate!

For the Lexus, it seems Gran Turismo predicted the car already-the Altezza/Lexus IS LM in GT2 resembles the class 1 chassis DTM, then you have the GT1 race car for the Korean championship. Quite a shame Lexus IS only goes as far as small genre like GT4/Super Taikyu ST3.

ah, the lexus dtm car..... it's not quite the same missed opportunity but very much the same sort of misleading endeavour as the recent "class-1" joint venture between dtm and super gt. regulations are here, car are made, but championships never actually converge and manufacturers never actually commit. and all we motorsports fans are left with, are dreams and what-ifs. ......and video games to fullfil them !

There was a lexus IS 350 Super GT GT300 spec car but despite looking similar it shared nothing with the IS F concept car. And the gt3 lexus is based on the RCF

Yes this was the Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 car. Understandably confusing because the livery was identical to the GT1 versions run by the same team BMS Scuderia Italia at that time. (2006) But no GT1 cars were allowed in International GT Open.

8:50 Sad Toyota decided to use a BMW for their Supra after they already made a car to compete with the M3, and went this far with it; they should have looked outside of their cookie cutter hiring process and got some non-Toyota engineers and designers to tune and redesign the is-f to become the Supra, they would have an authentic car and may have actually learned something other than that Toyota designers and engineers are only good at designing boring to drive appliances with no soul.

They were. Audi and Peugeot both ran TDI LMP1 cars from 2006 to 2016. They were fast, reliable, efficient, and made far more power and torque than any of their petrol competitors at the time.

@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 shell developed a synthetic GTL fuel (which is very difficult to find anymore) specifically for those cars. Yes. I know what TDI stands for. And tou shouldn't have been able to smell those cars running at all. They have particulate filters for the exhaust. I know this because I have in fact seen one up close hands on. I know someone whose bought one of the actual raced cars. Firs thing they told him when he took delivery of it "don't put diesel in this thing" I've seen and read all the marketing BS they successfully pushed out about the cars and diesel being the advanced green fuel they said it was..... but audi weren't exactly truthful about any of their diesel powered cars back then lol

@@kylemcneal7856 They ran on diesel. Shell developed a diesel fuel for the car called V-Power GTL ULS. It was a blend of 88% mineral-derived diesel and 12% GTL (Gas-to-liquid, synthesized from natural gas) diesel. Peugeot had a similar formulation developed for them by Total.

i've been wanting to make a video on the lexus isf racing concept specifically for a while now but because there is so little material of it (both in pictures and video) i always sidelined it. so when the sponsorship came up, i figured it was the perfect opportunity to find some more obscure race cars from videogames that are not as popular in real life and put em all together in one video. rest assured. i only make stuff i want to make. (and accept sponsorship that is relevant to the channel, so that means race car and motorsport stuff)

@@stijnpaspont Thinking some more I guess the main thing I stumble upon is how baked in the sponsorship is. When it contains information not just about the sponsor, but outside things it muddles the rest of the video and sets the tone more towards video to justify the ad even if your intention is the other way round. Perhaps placing the ad as a short segment after mentioning cars so unique it might one of the few games containing that car would feel better.
