This is definitely a step in the right direction, and a good sign at the future of Elite. I'm all for some laid back gameplay, but I'd be much more okay with some engaging things to do.

If it weren't for Distant Stars, I'd be headed back out to the Rift to go look for systems with ELWs. I did find one in the Conflux on my way to Colonia, but didn't have the time to actually fly around on the landable planets. I also found an ELW enroute to the Rift awhile back for the CG, but it wasn't actually within the Rift. Of note, many of the ELWs I've found, have been in A and M class systems, so the obvious isn't always the most likely (meaning F, G and K.) My guess is that there is an ELW within the 200ly radius of the beacon, and/or settlement that has more clues in the system. If not, then it might likely not be solvable until we get Atmospheric landings.

One of the things I'm loving about this game is that I can do my own thing, and read these first hand accounts of mysteries far away from what I'm doing. While I probably won't be exploring this far outside of inhabited space, at least not for a long time, it's so fun to hear about these mysteries being solved.

Yep... Possibly the work of the Thargoids but the fact that the transport's hyperdrive was irreparable makes me think that it's the work of the Guardians. Theirs is the tech that seems to cause human equipment to fail catastrophically (based on the fact that the UAs are found either in space or around Guardian settlements).

This game is begging for space-legs (or Dr Xavier floating wheel chairs for fellow VR pilots). I feel compelled to get out of the SRV and take a look inside these interesting buildings. I hope there will be realistic geological cave systems, subterranean bunkers and fully explorable space stations in coming expansions . . . Oh yeah and lightning storms on gas giants ! ! ! They should be totally rocking from the dark side, Its a travesty to see such a wasted opportunity)

Ricardeaux don't know what system your using....ruins are fine frame rate-wise. I was having a blast with Commanders 2 days ago there.

+HasmaT I hear you man. Better yet get a Vive and you can walk around the cockpits of these spacecraft. The Fir-de-lance has a glass roof. I lay on my bed watching ships docking at my home station for like half an hour . . . just because is looks cool. Or stood on the bridge looking out at Sunrise breaking over a planet. Elite in VR is something special.

I wish frontier's dev team can get to the point where they're able to add content on a regular basis.. Like outposts, crashsites, different various locations in space(that actually do stuff for players).... I've been to these distribution centers in the game, and they do nothing for the player at all...

This can't be it for the Formidine Rift, surely? It was said that this was in the game from the very beginning, i.e pre-Horizons. So it makes no sense that the mystery involves ground-based detective work.

J Connolly the galaxy is so big it's unlikely anyone would've found it horizons or not so ant is probably right in saying it's an aid to solving the mystery, one peice of a large puzzle I'd say there's definitely more waiting to be found

Hey Obsidian, could the wreckage discovered in "Xibalba" Located within the Via Maris region, near the NGC 281 Nebula, At -2000ly below the galactic plane be the same ship that went missing from this site? I don't play elite.. so I wouldn't know. But I do like mysteries and trying to find answers. And i found there was a player warning for a place called Xibalba; and apparently a wreck was found during an expedition there. Being that its not that far from the Beta Site... well I figured it was worth a mention.

So do you think there is anything else in the rift yet to be found? I wanted to see the derelict Megaship out there, so i jumped my way to it. The Logs state that there were invaders and that there was another vessel they tried to get a signal out to. Do you think that there might be more signs of the other ship or who the invaders were? The logs also stated that the answers to the "why and who" would be back at the core worlds. Which leads me to believe that there isn't really anything left in the rift for us to discover. But ive also read quotes that there is something lurking out there. Something...big that makes the thargoids seem like less of a threat. Or was the Megaship/Settlement really all thats out there?

Forgive me if this had already been mentioned. (I only looked into the comments a bit and may have missed someone else mentioning this.) but Ant has previously talked about "the missing" and had thoughts that it would be about the generation ships, but could it possibly be about these missing expedition vessels?

It seems these expeditions fit into the missing classification. Frontier has said that The Missing isn't just about generation ships, but also lost expeditions and other such things. :)

Salem Shanouha They were able to live in those structures maybe. I guess their definition of habitable meant not covered in ice or too hot to live on.

I don't think this is the world they were talking about. This was their expedition base, then they tried to leave, their hyperdrive failed and they ended up in an as-yet-unknown system with a habitable world. That's obviously the next thing to find - a system with a habitable world not too far from this system.

CMDR Vyralkyr here... an idea. Someone take the years the discovered comm logs were received and subtract from the current date. That would be the maximum light year range of the habitable planet the missing exploration crew could have settled on. It would take at at most that long before the signal could reach the abandoned outpost, could be closer. 33LY really isn't that much space to cover for a team of explorers. Get a systematic group together and chart the area. (I'd do it, but has no franz)

I like how FD keep building up the story and new lore. Few mysterious plots layering on top of each other. Only one tiny problem...you need a degree in cryptography and audio engineering to take part in all of this. Seriously, currently story of this game is for 0.1% to take part in, and for the rest it's just watch and 'enjoy'. They clearly trying to adress this with new ruins mission, but there's just not enough tools in game given to ALL players to feel like they are part of this whole thing. A shame really.

Okay so I'm new to the whole "story line" if you can call it that, the thargoids and the mysteries, heck even the political situation of the galaxy (I just kept my nose down and did a few missions here and there but mostly collected bounties) and I was wondering if there is a direct way to get involved in the whole thing. I've come back to the game after a short while hearing of the updates however I don't have horizons, should I get it now or wait? I've only just made 1million credits and I suck at combat, was gonna do robigo slaves but that's worth a lot less now.... A plan I had is to get a load of cash. I feel like I'm missing out and I dont want to miss a second of this game. I dont mean to whine but I find myself in a pickle, any advice is appreciated.

Whats your FSD range? Just been to Pleaides sector and on the edge of restricted COL 70 sector, some 33 jumps from it. Took me just several hours in my purple Hauler (yes, yes, of course its a monsterous starship, but still)

:/ this was their expedition site, not their final site. They seemed to have stayed here for a little while before heading off back on their main journey, but rather soon after getting going again their hyper drive malfunctioned through unknown causes and they diverted to their nearest inhabitable planet (which was luckily nearby in the same system the drive failed in). So now we need to look in systems around this Base Camp and find an inhabitable planet, and hope there's something for us to do when we find them. like a beacon or something. Early days. Early days...

FDev and Drew said Formidine "mystery" is ingame from almost inception and can be solved without Horizons by a random commander but more likely in-force. So Settlement should not be of any significance. Their words, not mine :) But I am guessing it is all BS and they are just waiting to flip some switch and suddenly mystery will be revealed.

If this is all that they have added in a year, geez, this game really sucks. So my simple explanation of what they have added - Fly for a couple of real life hours, land on a lifeless planet (much like every other planet) and read some text on a screen. Shit, Frontier really know how to raise the bar. Wake me when they actually add something innovative to the game.
