Rescue Takes Comical Turn

An already chaotic rescue run turned into a cartoon worthy episode when Naude found himself all alone with two young and very energetic seals - both of them willing to do whatever it takes to get away. As he tries to help one, the other one breaks lose and escapes towards the ocean. Luckily all animals got saved, and we had a good laugh when we realised just how hilarious this rescue turned out.

What an insane amount of strength and agility it takes to wrangle these slippery seals, sometimes simultaneously, and fixate them long enough to be able to cut the strains that strangle them! I give you people full credit for not giving up. Of course, the seal pups get an A+ for shear determination on trying to escape. In the end, everyone won, seals escaped but minus an entanglement. Hope the bite wasn't too bad. Great job, all of you. 🇨🇦

I almost think the dead fish are the result of some kind of phenomena. I don't mean anything "supernatural" but possibly a localized tidal wave that happens to catch a large school of fish and dumps them too far ashore for them to return to the water....? That's my guess.

@@mikejensen4238 When I was young we would have times on the shores of Lake Michigan where the dead alewives would pile up so much you couldn't walk on the beach without stepping on them. It doesn't get that bad every year but when it happens it's certainly noticeable. This was certainly a wild ride rescue this time!

Standard sardine “run”. It happens annually along the Namibian and South African coast. We used to leave work and rush down to the beach with baskets, bags, duvet covers … anything that would hold the massive harvest coming ashore. It only lasts about half an hour and the beaches are packed with people taking advantage of the free food.

Okay people, so we know that we all know Naude is a Superman of seal wrangling BUT you guys were a bit late to the party helping him and then when the poor man stands up you have him chase after and help you😂 I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe! Normally calm, cool and collected even he was talking to the creature in a kind but firm voice , and I am paraphrasing here, basically he was using the Jerry Maguire tactic on them, help me to help you. I have never seen him like that. But this tactic worked. I was so proud and amazed that all of you got so much done! Fantastic job. Here in the United States we have a saying, it’s like herding cats. Cats are tricky and they’re going to do what they wanna do. By the end of this even Naude was no longer worried about being formal as he sits worn out and probably bleeding from his wound. Basically he says we will just figure this out when we watch the video. Glad you all take care of each other. So what did we learn today? Sardine fueled seals are amazing and incredibly full of energy. The team is up to any challenge and has a sense of humor. But seriously, do you all have access to rabies vaccine? I do get very concerned when you are bitten. What are your protocols for this. Hugs to all of you. You and the work you do matter, more than you know. Be safe and thank you.
