Rescuers Drag Seal Out Of Water By Fishing Line and Hook

The OCN rescuers have to make a very difficult choice between two horrible options:
1. They let this entangled animal go and call the rescue a loss, well aware that they might never get a second chance at this particular rescue and that other animals could get entangled in the same piece of fishing line.
2. They attempt this impossible rescue, put themselves in severe danger of being washed away by the waves, and drag the seal out of the water by holding on to the fishing line and hook he is attached to, an approach that the team usually avoids at all cost to avoid further suffering to the animal.
They choose option 2. Of course they do. 🦭

Antoine, the first time I saw the video, I thought there was a cable attached to you to keep you from being washed away. But no, you went out there untethered because there was a seal who needed help. Of course you did. Thank you for your complete disregard for your own safety.😇🙏

No need to explain why you were compelled to pull on the line to keep the seal from getting away before you completed the rescue. You just keep doing whatever it takes to catch the seals and free them from their entanglements. Amazing commitment! Thank you so much!🦭💯🌊❤️

Yeah, that small amount of additional damage is absolutely worth it in order to survive. OCN are trying so hard to be as gentle and empathetic as possible, but sometimes it has to be brute force. And that‘s why she gets to live.

Wow, what a rescue! Not only did you have to fight the seal, but you also had to fight the waves as well. To save the seal from further agony, you really had no choice but to pull him in by the line, and this pain was temporary. Job well done!

Don't throw those lines, nets and hooks. Create a museum where you show them, to the people, so they could know the danger that cause to animals by trying recreational fishing.

They not only take everything, they remove from the seals, they record and catalog everything and share the information with people who are studying the pollution in the sea. They would never leave anything behind to ruin the seals habitat. The men and women of Ocean Conservation Namibia are obviously totally devoted to their cause and I have been in awe of this small group of amazing people since stumbling onto their videos just a few weeks ago.

That was treacherous, dangerous and exciting, but I kept thinking about the hook in the seal. It must have hurt everytime he caught it on the rocks as well. Holy Dooley fellas, that started off so crazily and ended beautifully. I was so worried the seal would be injured by the hook and Tony would be smashed against the rocks but thankfully neither happened. The patient was very well behaved, and exhausted, which was s blessing for Naude and Tony. Also, again I am glad fishermen using those shark hooks are cutting off the barbs. Imagine if that God awful hook had a barb. Horrifying. There have been a couple of other odd entanglements at CC lately which is not a good sign. Ocean debris and junk from the fishing factory ships is starting to reach further up the coast. Thank you Naude and Tony. Enjoy your overnight stay at CC. Be safe. ☮️❤️🦘🇦🇺

My heart is full with admiration and gratitude for the unconditional commitment and love you show these beautiful creatures, regardless of what it might cost you. You are heroes in my heart and I have great admiration and respect for all of you! It is my most fervent wish that people would watch your videos and see first hand the horrible pain and suffering they inflict, through their carelessness, insolence and complete ignorace on these precious and defenseless creatures of Nature. We all have been made stewards of all Creation and, therefore carry a great responsibility to care for them and protect them. Unfurtonaiy, many see animals as lesse creatures, easily discarded and ignored unless they are of monetary gain for them. How can they ignore that these animals have a bond and care for each other: the baby seal that overcame her fears and would not abandon her Mama whe she was being helped. And what about the birthing Mama which, after intense labor was concerned for her precious little one? Sometimes animals show more heart than humans. Good luck and many blessings! A big hug of respect and gratitude!!! PS: If you had the needed means would it be helpful, in difficult rescues like this to sedate them a little? It would calm the seal down causing less trauma and would make it safer and a little easier for you. Just a thought. Thank you from the deepest of my being. May you always be protected and safe! Much love. Mercedes Precht-Matuschek
