When are you going to tell us about a wrecked ship where the lifeboats actually worked? Where they didn't burn or simply weren't put to sea. Was there ever there any havoc at sea when lifeboats were useful for the passengers at large? Are they just for show by design?

25:49 for anyone interested don’t jump in head first. We practice feet first, legs crossed at the ankles (in case there is debris in the water-it won’t hit you between the legs) and arms across your chest holding the life jacket at the neck pulling down so it doesn’t ride up when you hit the water. And seriously…. Hold that life jacket tight and down towards your chest because it definitely will ride up.

Life jacket designs have come a looong way! When you look at the old style used on the Morro Castle you can see many points where it could hurt you. Fortunately now life jackets are designed for exactly the kind of immersion you describe!
@foo21918 күн бұрын
@@OceanlinerDesigns About 20 years back I watched a very depressing documentary about life jackets. They are difficult to put on quickly and can be dangerous when worn wrong, so someone designed a better life jacket that can be easily snapped on in seconds, but cruise ship companies didn't want them because they cost 2 cents more to make than the older model. Can't remember anything else about the documentary, sadly.

Agreed, this is vivid and amazing. I have read about the Morro Castle. I knew people died in sight of shore. I've seen photos of the burnt out hulk. None of that conveys the difficulty, the tension, the struggle, the horror -- the layers of awful -- like Mike and the Oceanliner Designs team have. This video absolutely honors the loss without losing respect for the people.

Harrowing story delivered in unprecedented high quality, Mike. I'm blown away equally by the realistic 3D recreations as well as by the tragedy of the disaster. The ineptitude (or deliberate, criminal acts, we'll find out in the next part) that led to the inferno is shocking but the accounts of heroism show the full scale of human nobility and fortitude. It's those latter stories that've always interested me in tales of peril on the sea. I'm so looking forward to the final installment, there's far more to this story than I ever knew.

I wish I could remember the outcome of this event without researching. I don't think I can wait for Part 3. Many years ago, our history teacher spent a month on shipboard fires: Navy and civilian. It's been too many years to remember all the details unfortunately. How could the crew live with themselves by abandoning the passengers? Those poor children locked in rooms.
