As a Jewish person of mixed Ukrainian and Galilean descent, I can confirm that this couple was correct. Horseradish must be spicy, unless you are either a toddler or some white bread milquetoast neutral person who thinks boiled potatoes are too spicy. When I'm eating my gefilte fish after the seder, I better get some strong horseradish, none of that weak stuff.
