I also maintain a database of the things I planted in the ground. I also keep a 'Dearly Departed' database of plants that I removed or died. This includes the reason they're gone and the year they were shovel-pruned. This helps me avoid repeating a garden mistake. I've been gardening so long, and my brain so addled, I need to rely on these tools to augment my memory. These databases are on my smartphone, so I can whip them out at the garden center before I make a purchase. BTW there are more than several on the "Dearly Departed' list that met their fate becuase they were boring.

I thought of asking this on your video with Jenny, what are your favorite plants for each season? You talk about visiting the garden center at different seasons. What are your favorite for each season? Also probably a silly question but what is the different in dahlia tubers verses seeds? Really enjoying these videos as I am really learning so much.

Every year, I tell myself not to start my flower seeds too early because there's ALWAYS that last gasp of freezing temps. Well, tonight I'll be making room for a bunch of seedlings in my house because the freezing temps are back for a couple of nights here in Georgia. You think I'd learn, but I get early spring fever or something and my sense goes right out the window, lol.

Good info Jim. I tend to plant things too early that don't like an early outside date here in central IL. I have been zapped more than a few times by planting Margarita sweet potato vines in a container arrangement that meet an early death even at 39/40 degrees. Angelonia and annual vinca also hate planted early outdoors. TY for the reminder that I need to be patient and wait. Hi to Holly. :)

QUESTION, I’m in zone 7b very northeast OK and I have a flower bed mainly of black eyes Susan’s and echinacea and 2 rose of Sharon’s and I need to add a lot of soil bc it seems to have sank and I’m afraid I’ll lose them due to water sitting there too long....should I do it now? All I want to do is take them out add more soil and amendments of course then put them right back in the same place. Thank you for all your videos and knowledge. You have been a blessing!

Hi Jim! Saw you on Creekside Nursery with Jenny. 2017 we planted a (northern grown) Carlecephalum Fragrant Viburnum. Was in sun till 2000...then moved to receive a bit more shade. Barely grown and never bloomed (till now, one tiny bud). I fed it with Plant Tone only recently. And pruned a tiny bit, but it kills me as it's not very big. Any ideas or should I just toss it? Happy to find your channel!!
