Didn't pick it up. Really didn't like the simple story telling of first game. Gameplay was SOLID in Game 1 but I need someone who feels the same way about the first games narratives to tell me this game doesn't have plots like "Hunter goes and kills her Sensei's big monster" kinda plot 8 times. Cause it was shit in the first game.

Yep, all stories finished minus 2 and I have to say I think the whole cast is much better than the first one. I wanna play octo 1 soon so I can compare ngl. I didnt think octo 2 would be this good defo a nice surprise.

Unfortunately no because it's exactly the same as Octopath Traveler 1. Everything about the game is the same as the first one with some minor sprinkles on top. The story plays out the same The battle system is exactly the same with one or two small new mechanics added The path actions are exactly the same as the first one; you just do them a little differently this time (I really didn't like this) The story plays out in chapters exactly the same way OT1 did. You travel from place to place in the same way, you run thru dungeons the same way, town exploration is the same, the menu system is the same. For god's sake, a lot of the music is directly taken from OT1 just slightly different. The general consensus seems to be "If you loved OT1, you'll love OT2 because it's more of the same", but i think that's exactly why OT2 isn't good - because that's all it is; more of the same. This isn't a sequel, it's a story-pack DLC.

I can’t remember if it was in the first one since it’s been a while, but in 2 the characters call out each others name during battles. I love that touch. Loving the whole game, got it on steam deck.

Bro I'm about 30 hours in and picking up my last party member Ochette, and I gotta agree its more of the same. I'm enjoying myself but most the time I wish my other party was there for me and it doesn't feel like they couldn't do it? And what the hells up with the EXTRA amount of random treasure chest? All and all really enjoying myself I maxxed out the first one (and seen the character convos) nothing to write home to mama about. But for what its worth enoying it and hope on 3 they'll actually at least make the characters feel closer maybe even a romance or two?

I think people who don’t like the premise of certain games need to learn to just not play them…the individual story structure is unique as hell! I don’t want just one more regular rpg thanks

I like that each character has their own individual story. I just wish those stories acknowledged the other three to seven goobers that are shoved to the side while that one character is tackling their personal demons. I'd like it to be less "I'm completed siloed off from the party while I'm doing this" and more "This is my errand so I'm taking the lead while we do this."

Octopath 2 best improvement was the story for me. First game I only liked half the characters. In this game I thought everyone except the dancer had masterful stories.

I'm loving it so far. Everything I could have wanted to be improved upon, were. I loved all the extra details added into it on top of that as well. The extra stories with interactions between the characters and addition of latent powers made it even better

I just bought a 1080p 60hz portable OLED monitor for my PC and I can sacrifice resolution and speed for that beautiful OLED image. The game looks gorgeous on that monitor. The perfect contrast, the crispness, the colors… oh god! I also have a 144hz 4K TV and still prefer playing this on my portable monitor.

At first I had a hard time figuring out which rpg I like better between Octopath Travelers 2 or Bravely Default 2? But I like Octopath better.

I never played the first one but Octopath Traveler 2 is EpIc. The stories are so good I prefer to play TV mode instead of handheld while I watch TV because I don't want to miss the story. I love thos game!!!!! The graphics are beautiful.

I played OT 1 for H'annit. I maaaaaaaay plat OT 2 for the rogue lady. But like last time. I ll wait for a sale. I need the good mood to invest that much time on a long game like this.

My goodness the game was transparent about what it was. It was always marketed as of 8 separate stories. It was never a "see how they are connected" i am not getting why so many people expected some "connected" power of friendship style game for this series? Good review tho

It's a good improvement from the first one but still annoyed about the lack of jobs, having to go to the tavern to switch out my party members, and other tiny qol improvements found in other jrpgs. Still put 50 hours into it and havent beaten the game yet

I started out with Hikari, and thought I'd be most interested in his story and Throne's, but holy shit did Cassti and Temenos's stories blow me outta the water. The stories are soo much more memorable than the first game

Octo 2 just has much better characters than 1 which greatly helps the individual story. Partitio and Temenos story specially I think were insanely good. I'm really glad I did pick up this game

Wasn’t a fan of the game of thrones medieval style commentary in the first game, but I wanted to love it, I played the demo for this and maybe I’m jaded but I just wanted to rush to the gameplay and not have to sit through the dialogue 😭

I want to like octopath just for me personally it’s really hard to get invested in all the stories when I know in the back of my head there’s no relevance between them. I’m not a fan of how bravely looks but I wish we could get a game that tells a story like bravely and looks like octopath ugh it’s so frustrating to me. IMO not interweaving the plots is wasted potential.

I'm really concerned about this The first game I enjoyed a lot... until I started not to. The structure of the stories were all too similar: introductory cutscenes --> a little exploration before the chapter's dungeon --> chapter's dungeon --> chapter boss --> cutscene ending the chapter and setting up the next one - rince and repeat. It just was all too predictable structure-wise. Did not help that the stories were heartfelt, but kind of boring to be honest. And trust me, I'm talking as a day1 super hyped person. Does this game shake up this kind of formulaic progression or is it just the same? Please dude, tell me straight out lol And if so, how much better are the character's stories? Would you say they're "better" or "MUCH better"? Cause the latter would probably made me swallow the story structure a bit more. And also last question, how's the exploration? Are the rewards for exploring just the same as the first one? (a couple of branching paths, some treasure chest, occasionally more powerful world mini-bosses) Or is there some new rewarding, more dopaminergic kind of task to be done? You see, I'm playing Champions of the Continent right now, and to be honest the gacha aspect and being able to break the game is providing me plenty fun, to the point that going back to regular, great looking but super basic JRPG like OT (the first one, which I did went back to give it a spin) did not entertain me as much. I'm probably just addicted to gacha tbh, but since you seem to know your shit I thought I'd ask. (sorry for the long winded comment, and good video dude)

Imma tell ya bro it's petty much the same setup as far as the character stories go. You do have two routes for some stories but that's about all I can tell for the most part. And the stories so far I was say are about in the same level as first game or slightly better.

More of the same is such a lame criticism of this. That's like the whole point is retreading and celebrating the style and simplicity of the classics. If each new entry adds to and evolves that formula...then it's not the throwback it was meant to be anymore. As for the stories not interconnecting enough or comprising an overarching story for some...big deal. They don't have to and they never lead on that they would.
