The Oculus Rift didn't let you reach out and grab things in VR. These controllers change that.

Okay so I know alot of shit has happened but after seeing the games that are coming out with the Touch I am 99% sold, honestly that looked insanely good, and from what I heard from recent reviews it provides a better experience than the Vive wands. So the Vive wins the headset, and the Rift wins the controllers for me.
@noggy152
@noggy152 7 жыл бұрын
It depends really. The oculus touch controller beat the vive wands for hand presence and are great for that. But the Vive wands simulate gun play, sword fighting, and holding objects much better in my opinion.

How does the vive win with the head set?? The oculus is way lighter, which makes it more comfortable and it's easier to read txt in the oculus because it's screen is a lil better.
@mythrin
@mythrin 7 жыл бұрын
Sean G Yes that is a very good point, the Vive's approach to the controllers was to create a good tool/utensil for interaction, while the Touch was to make your hands feel as natural as possible. But yes like you said it really depends on the person.
@mythrin
@mythrin 7 жыл бұрын
JaYo1919 I forgot to mention, I like the Rift headset more, it's lighter, more comfortable like you said, and the screen and lenses are slightly better like you said. But purely with hardware, like positional tracking and camera, the Vive is technically better than the Rift. But overall, the Rift headset wins for me.

I got my Oculus CV1 w/touch bundle last week. So far are I'm loving it. Playing lot of Serious Sam VR - TFE using classing movement. No motion sickness at all. Once I got my room setup for optimal area. The room presence tracking and touch controllers are dead on accurate. I played on the Vive. I like the Oculus/Touch better. Using the Analog Sticks for movement in Serious Sam feels completely natural. I can strafe, backpedal all your normal FPS movements. It also uses room presence to I move in my room area. Duck around corners, crouch. Best of all is the Dual Wielding, Touch aiming. It makes mouse aiming completely obsolete.. Most of the time, just have double barrel shot gun in the left hand, Pistol in the right. Serious Sam is fast pace with a ton of crap coming at you. The movement is fast, I had no issues with motion sickness, nor have any of my friends. A couple get a slight sensation when going up/down stairs. I wish all FPS shooters could support VR and Motion controllers in this fashion.

I think 4 sensors will be needed for real Room Scale, unless the play space is smaller than the room itself. I can't see how it's gonna trac each corner otherwise due to the limited field of vision of each sensor.

LOL XD ive been doing that for months with the Vive. the Vive also has a camera that you can use to see a representation of your room without taking of the headset, believe it or not its extremely handy. Although its not to say the oculus still has the advantage of being a bit user friendly and slightly more comfortable. both very good headsets. but i still rather have my Vive ( ; i would get both if i could.

Oculus touch looks pretty awesome. I'm not sure how much a difference this "hand presence" is going to make though, your still holding a controller using a analog stick and pressing buttons like any other controller. seeing your fingers move though is pretty neat.

I guess the real question isn't whether the controllers are as good as the vive (seems comparable) but how much extra it costs for another 2 cameras and the controllers. Also is the processing requirements increased alot, I seem to recall the caveats of using laser positioning for the vive being that tracking is computationally cheap, views from cameras need to be buffered and processed somewhere.

If you just bought the controllers and no headset, could these become a new device for working in 3D applications like Zbrush, Modo, Blender. I'm wondering how precise you can be. Lets say you had a sphere on your monitor. Could you track the cursor over the spheres surface smoothly or would it judder? Just wondering here, feel free to tell me why this wouldn't work.
@theTruB
@theTruB 7 жыл бұрын
I dont have the controllers, I have them on preorder though, but you cant use the controllers without the headset, vive controllers may work, razor which are not available anymore unless you get them from someone, do work alone, but they are not very precise, however, both vive controllers and touch is very accurate, no real 3d applications do support any of those though, however, Oculus medium works similar to zbrush ect, but its more basic, of what ive heard is that its more "fun" to use, you get very creative while using them since they are so easy to use and works great, also tilt brush which google owns, works for both touch and vive, but its even less for working with 3d, even though ive seen a guy doing just that, but he remade things in 3dstudio from the paths he made it tiltbrush, if i remember correctly. Google Oculus Medium,. thats the thing I am looking forward to the most.

about the same, a little more for a 3rd sensor that gives you room-scale with the rift. edit: 3rd sensor not needed but helps to give better occlusion, which provides a better experience. (2nd sensor comes with the touch controllers)
@sameerkhannaSOS
@sameerkhannaSOS 7 жыл бұрын
798 for the touch and Rift bundle, 79 for two more sensors, which is needed for roomscale. BUT, the Touch controllers have a lot more functionality than Vive controllers and allow more immersion, AND the roomscale setup for Rift has fewer occlusion issues due to being 3 sensors instead of 2.

I just got my touch controllers and after trying several games I realize that I don't really like the touch/motion controller, roomscale types of games in VR. I don't like all that movement to control things. I'm a lazy old school gamer and I really just want the normal game types using the VR headset and getting the 3D immersion but just using a controller, sitting down, or even using my tried and true Mouse/Keyboard. I just want to play games like Fallout, WItcher, Elite Dangerous, Alien Isolation, etc.. but with fuller immersion from the headset. I think the VR developers are over complicating the market shooting for more of a Wii type of audience and I really believe that will prove either a fad, or a big offshoot from the main gamer population.

@Wolfsheim23

Yep I've done that, and even mouse & keyboard is fine. In VR I like to stay immersed I just imagine myself sitting in the cockpit of a big machine/mech/android/etc and I'm controlling its movement through the world with whatever controller I have in my hands. It's totally comfortable to me this way to use regular gaming locomotion this way. Motion Controllers just really feel awkward to me other than using guns. It's like trying to use chopsticks with mittens on.

No, 2 sensors works fine: Look up a youtuber named "RealityCheckVR" he has an early dev kit and has been playing roomscale SteamVR games perfectly fine. I'm not a fan of how they worded it... Karltroid sorry english is not my native languange.. my point is, if the Rift need at least 2 camera sensors for room scale mode, the Rift will cost expensive than Vive, because the price rift it self is $599 + touch controller $199 + 1 additional camera sensor maybe around $100 the total about $898. The Vive is $799

Doubtful. The Vive tracking will be more accurate and responsive compared to this outdated IR tracking tech. And not rely on multiple USB 3 ports and long cables trailing out of your PC.

Roger Diking How are those touch controllers doing for ya? Seen those Vive prototype controllers? Look instantly better than the oculus touch and for good reason too. Competition creates innovation. Let's keep it up HTC/Valve vs. Oculus.

VΞЛТUЯΞ - Mmk. Oculus touch is better if you need hand presence. Now how are they compared to the Vive controllers when holding a sword or a gun? how does the trigger feel for gunplay?

Lighthouse isn't really any _better_ than Constellation. They're both IR tracking systems, just different implementations. All indications from developers showing off Touch on youtube, seem to suggest that with just 2 opposite facing Oculus Cameras, you can achieve the same level of tracking accuracy as the Vive's setup. And with 3, it's even more rock solid, which is why Oculus suggests that for large room-scale. IMO, Touch is totally a next level beyond what Vive is capable of. They'll play the same games, but the hand-presence won't be as good on Vive.

Lighthouse tracks a larger area with only two base stations (out of the box it is guaranteed to track up to 5m but there are videos showing it tracking much larger spaces with the sync cable) and the base stations have a larger FOV which enables the larger tracking volume. Plus cable management is easier with the Vive base stations since you only need to hook them up to a power outlet or a battery pack. The Constellation cameras on the other hand have to plug directly into your computer and their cables are pretty short. Which means you have to have a spider web of cables routed back to your central computer across your smaller playspace (or buy lots of USB extenders to facilitate cable management). Additionally the cameras in constellation start to lose tracking at around 5-6ft. Meaning the constellation is limited to 12 ft in a dual camera system (3.3m). If you want to extend it further you have to buy additional cameras which make the total package more expensive than the vive.

Why why even make these? oculus cant even sell 100k headsets in 7 months....neither could vive....psvr just 10 folded both companies in one single day. Rip to the pc headsets, move on to travel vr where you belong. you have no future in in the gaming market with the best headset for gaming psvr.

Cameron Rutherford I've played the same games on my rift as I have on psvr and games look the same psvr has a better refresh rate and hand tracking. Just so you know since you clearly know nothing about vr graphics mean nothing in vr that's why rez infinite is deemed the best vr game to date.
