Everyone does this and it's so annoying xD I think the purpose is that they want you to get all your coverage on something directly from them so they get more attention and revenue from ads and such. One big problem is that in a lot of cases they only mention things once. Another is that people shouldn't stick to one source of information, getting multiple opinions from different places is actually a quite healthy thing. But on the other hand, with coverage of big events, it's nice to know that one place is covering as much as they can

- Good realistic VR visuals? Check - Good, responsive controls? Check - Good, solid hardware at a (relatively) decent price? Check - Really solid game to justify the hardware? Not that I've seen... Still waiting to see anything come out for VR that's as good as Mario was for Nintendo, as Halo was for Xbox, etc.

I wonder how many people are gonna be pissed about the score because they're mad about the oculus not failing.
@christiandeuctor3606

The funny thing is Oculus never failed people were just getting mad because of the exclusive games and telling others that if they had any interest in the device that they should just drop it and get the Vive. Basically being VR Nazis.

One thing to note tho. Those controllers buttons seem to break easily for a lot of people. Many have complained about their B buttons breaking from pushing it hard for long periods of time while playing games that make you hold that button down to move. I personally had my trigger button at the front of my right controller get sticky and not function perfectly like my other one. Tho i love these controllers like crazy, I seriously think they need to make their buttons more durable because i've heard too many people say they've bought like 5 controllers since they keep breaking them lol

Instead people should "preorder" digital copies a few minutes/hours before it unlocks on launch night to get those bonuses. Otherwise, it's completely dumb as hell to give publishers money upfront for nothing worthwhile, no matter how good a game seems.

Wow, I'm glad I sold my Vive. Even though I'm not getting Oculus Rift anytime soon, it looks great for people like me who have under room scale play area. The hand gestures seem more natural, though Vive could still be better in terms of gun or sword types games due to the weight; Plus you can change the battery unlike the Vive's are built in and gonna die at some point.

October 2020 would be your answer. Aka the launch of the Oculus Quest 2. We went from Palmer Luckey's first duct-taped headset prototypes in 2012 to the start of mass consumer VR adoption in only 8 years (almost ENTIRELY thanks to Facebook's bankrolling). Not too shabby!!!

Super Hot, Dead and Buried, etc, etc, etc.. are the best games you've never played. A shame so little gamers will experience Oculus / Touch due to the price point. If you're lucky / have enough money to own these, expect some of the best new gaming experiences ever. They are amazing - Very hard to enjoy 'Flatscreen' gaming after owning these.

If you mean regular games instead of a game pad then most likely you're right since Touch is connecting to the rift headset itself BUT there might be 3rd-party usb dongles available later like for xbone controller for pc. Though I don't see the motion and hand gestures working in regular games since the game needs to support it too for proper use.

You can use them with almost any game that supports xbox controllers since it can be mapped. But its not as easy because there are two buttons on each hand so playing a game that requires use of 4 buttons and analog movement will be hard.

Why don't people just use gloves? I've seen the technology for quite some years now doing different things and motion capture tech is also used a lot. I'm curious to know why it's not implemented into VR

So for a Rift with full 360 degree room scale costs pretty much the same as the Vive. Now, it just comes down to games. VR devs couldn't really make games for both headsets, because the Rift didn't have room scale. Now they all need to port their games to the Rift

@Art-Sin 7 жыл бұрын
Travis Williams Won't work - Oculus have already tried gloves through R&A. You need to actually hold on to something, pretending to hold on to a weightless gun, sword, picking up a weightless item would break the immersion. Besides, what size would the glove be? a familys hands sizes range from very small to very large.. Where would the buttons be? they'll be no happy middle ground between practicality and future Motion controllers. This is why the Touch controllers are the near perfect design.

I don't care about vr and the immersion effect isn't immersive and wasted on me.. But these controllers with the head tracking in tandem is what I REALLY want for games. I may not ever be immersed visually in vr but at least the future looks bright for being immersed in the gameplay.

xShadowDarkX Lol. play Super Hot. you will be immersed, i promise.
@xShadowDarkX
@xShadowDarkX 7 жыл бұрын
Art Sin doubtful. I've got a pretty bad stigmatism and 3D effects from movies to gaming have been all but wasted on me. This is why vr to me is really nothing but an over glorified paper bag over the head experience of gaming.. all it really is.. without the 3D is a head wrap and typically bad graphics lol.. but I'll definitely take the head tracking and these new motion controllers for sure.. THATS my king of immersion.
@Art-Sin
@Art-Sin 7 жыл бұрын
xShadowDarkX Sorry to learn about your astigmatism. I have a friend with one eye bit still feels immersed when playing his rift. His reality is not seeing in 3d in the first place, I take this is similar to your case - its all relative to what you can see by default. I tale even normal flatscreen would look a bit weird too?
@xShadowDarkX
@xShadowDarkX 7 жыл бұрын
Art Sin oddly enough I never truly got a good 3D effect out of games till the Nintendo 3DS but that may have to do with the fabled sweet spot as in I can selectively move my head closet or further away as the 3D is recombined on the screen and not relying on my crappy eyes to do it up close with goggles/glasses. Since now I know how 3D is SUPPOSED to feel in games I found the whole vr thing pretty "Meh" when trying out things like cardboard and vive.. other people got this "incredible" 3D headwrapping experience to "immerse" them. Meanwhile my experience was really just a strange 2D looking headwrap and me just worrying I wasn't going to run into anything instead of "enjoying" the experience.
@Art-Sin

xShadowDarkX dam. thats ashame. Oh, the rift does have 3d sliders on the bottom side inwhich you can manually adjust your ipd - not sure if this would help you much though, but you never know.

I'm really split on VR. I'm considering all three, Vive, Rift and PSVR. Vive seems like the overall best option. Featuring room scale, great controllers and Valve backing them. PSVR has better games, better build and smaller pricetag (since I already own Move/Camera), but no room scale, lower resolution and the limitations of the PS4. Oculus has better tech. Better controllers and they also offer room scale. But at a huge price if you want the Rift, Touch and the third camera. Also some devs making it worse for gamers because of Oculus CEOs political beliefs, which is just childish and stupid. I really don't know what to do here... I may as well just wait it out and see what happens.
@crappiefisher1331
@crappiefisher1331 7 жыл бұрын
you dont need the third camera.. omg people inform yourself.. 360° roomscale on the rift works perfectly fine with 2 cameras.. and you also could play ALL vive games on the rift months ago already by using razer hydras.. with the touch controllers it now works even better

+Dennis Löfgren I'd say get a Vive or a Rift. Personally I like the Vive more. I can't really think of anything I want to play on PSVR besides RE7. Even that will be playable on PC presumably on the Vive/Rift after the timed exclusivity period ends.

truthseeker1973 What? That's the exact opposite of what I said
@Art-Sin
@Art-Sin 7 жыл бұрын
Dennis Löfgren how much play space do you have? remember Oculus has 50+ exclusive games on the store already, plus you can play all Vive games. If you have a small 2x2 - 10x10 space two senors is enough for 360. Also the touch controllers feels SOO much better and capable of more than the others. oh, with Oculus ASW, you only have to aim for 45fps and that will double your framerate to a solid 90fps - this means if you have a high end pc you can play your games at higher resolution / pixel rates than the equilivant powered system running a vive. You'll be getting better performance and detail on your oculus with Vive games than vive users.

Too much money in my opinion. I have a rift and most of the popular games and it was really cool at first but honestly just collects dust now. The resolution is just not where it should be and even i the winter I have to have a fan facing me to stop fogging. I can't justify 280cdn then buy a bunch more touch games. Probably sell the rift soon and wait a generation or 2 before investing again.

ncdv47 what are you trying to argue for. what feels natural (neither feel natural) or that the trackpad is suddenly better than an analog "jarring" joystick lol. if track pads were better wed see them on more than just steams failed controller. not knocking it though it serves the purpose it was designed for. to allow keyboard/mouse only games to be played via controller

Best VR set up?? Well that's your opinion tyvek... In order to get full 360° tracking, you'll have to spend that extra $80 for the third camera (not to mention USB extensions etc). That brings it up to a price that is ten percent more than the Vive. And yet, the Vive's tracking system is still superior to Oculus'.
@pauloaguiar2330
@pauloaguiar2330 7 жыл бұрын
Valve has a bigger tracked space but the quality of the tracking is the same. If you want hand presence and overall better hardware, you buy a Rift+Touch. Most people dont have the space to fully utilize the vive anyway. Plus its bulky compared to the rift.
@bliglum

***** Nope, not facts.. Opinion. For example, many people are of the opinion that the Vive is more comfortable because it's got thicker foam. Many people prefer the pass through camera, to no pass through camera. Many people prefer the brighter display with greater field of view, many also prefer the Vive's lenses which introduce fewer glare artifacts. And finally, most agree that the Vive's tracking system is superior. I will concede that the Rift has a more refined design with more ergonomic controllers. But there are rumours of new Vive controllers and perhaps a refreshed headset design coming in 2017. Also, 2 cameras for 360 would not work well, it would invite tracking issues with limited camera cones and occlusion. there's a reason why Oculus themselves recommends 3 for a 360 setup after all.

@bliglum
@bliglum 7 жыл бұрын
truthseeker1973 It's recommended because it doesn't work very well with just two.. occlusion and range issues... Oculus recommends 2 for standing or seated front facing, 3 for 360° and some smaller room scale. Yes, you can jerry rig it, set the two cameras opposed. But it's not a long term solution.

You can walk around your room with rift too, and the headset is lot more comfortable. Now that touch controllers are out, which are better than the vives (based on reviews since I get mine tomorrow so didn't try personally yet), overall Oculus seems like a better choice. What exactly do you mean by higher quality? Since the headset specs are the same and oculus looks more premium in design.

***** Comfort is subjective. When I first put the Rift on, I was honestly amazed how good it fit, BUT after about an hour of use, it became terribly uncomfortable and even painful. Right now the Touch controllers have better functionality, but HTC/Vive are also working on their own improvement.

@Mr_Doon 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, batteries make more sense in this case. Imagine this: You're playing in vr when your controllers run out of charge. If you have a vive, you have to either stop right where you are to charge your controllers, or play with a wire attached to your controllers. If you have an oculus, you just need to open the battery cover and put new ones in. I bought a 4 pack of rechargeable batteries, so when one pair runs out I just swap it with my charged pair.

PotaTox u have a strong point but imagine this your playing ur vr and in the controller die and u cant find any batteries well vs me charging u gotta stop completely to run to the store and by that time my friend ur not gonna wonna play anymore that day😅🤣😂😂

That assumes you are completely unprepared and don't have AA batteries, which most people have, and how is that any different from having to wait for your controllers to charge?

PotaTox well from my experience in my house hold AA batts not laying around i consider any unit 1 step behind if its not stocked with a built-in batt ...ive never had a vive controller to die on me and i get lost for 4-6 hrs in vr ... again dude im not knocking i just like rechargeable vs batteries.

OMG really they lose tracking if you turn 180 degrees.. the whole point of VR is to be surrounded by the game not much use if you cannot even pick up an item that is behind you.. and yet they say best vr controller ever and give it a 9.0 wtf these look great the thumbsticks a a plus and finger pointing but not being able to interact with objects behind you is a game braker in most the games i have played on vive. 6.5 would be correct score.. FACEBOOK CASH AT WORK HERE!!
@dami777
@dami777 7 жыл бұрын
Watch the review again, it works 360degrees with 3 or 4 sensors. Honestly speaking, if you spent like 2k on a HMD and a capable comp, what is another 80$ more for a better experience? You don't even need to buy more right away, can always get it later if the included stuff is not enough.
@Oneeyedpirate008
@Oneeyedpirate008 7 жыл бұрын
***** in regards to wireless adding latency my vive only has 2 sensors and 1 is wireless and there is zero latency AND 360 degree tracking.. also just recently there was a wireless addon announced for the vive its like 189 euro and it makes the headset completely wireless with no perceivable delay (supposedly) and valve has givin the product its blessing saying it works well so im thinking that oculus with all that facebook money couldn't even sort out a double sensor that just works 360 degrees out of the box it just seems a bit of a shitty effort in my opinion you are going to need to interact with things behind you and oculus knows that they simply didnt include the 3rd sensor to keep the total price down to the same as the vive and also to avoid reviewers slamming it for all the cable work.
@dami777
@dami777 7 жыл бұрын
One eyed pirate There is no way it has "zero" latency, just that it might be rarely noticeable. And yup, I saw the addon but it was not available in the US? Plus I'm very very skeptical about that, I wont believe it until I personally try it. In VR latency is lot more important. Ah Oculus already has a beta 360 degrees mode with 2 sensors but it's recommended to use 3+. More sensors adds more precision and that's about it.

that's absolute garbage that you need a 3rd camera just to match HTC vive tracking. just get a Vive, they will also have individual finger tracking controllers in the future.

If you want better VR experience then of course it will cost more money. Oculus CURRENTLY supports up to 4 sensors while vive only supports 2 and there is no info about vive adding support for more.
@pexeq
@pexeq 7 жыл бұрын
Vive doesn't really need more than two base stations. And don't forget that those base stations don't require a USB port on your PC. You want to use four Oculus sensors? That will be four USB 3.0 ports.
@d2tz
@d2tz 7 жыл бұрын
Why would you the vive even need more sensors if it works perfectly fine with 2? Guess you are happy spending another $80 just to do what the Vive already can ;)
@dami777
@dami777 7 жыл бұрын
+d2tz +pexeq It works "now" but I doubt it will be enough later when there will be more advanced motions to track. So most likely you will need to spend more on the vive side too. And USB ports are nothing, I have everything connected along with a bunch of external hdds and still have 6 free usb3 ports. Can always get an pcie extension card too. And in case of the sensors, wired is better than wireless.
