In case anyone is interested in the actual nazokake riddle: basically Donraku asks the (so far unnamed, btw) Producer to pretend that if he was Donraku’s apprentice, then what would he have in common with “a droplet that fell onto the surface of a glass of alcohol”. The Producer says the set response (その心は？), and Donraku answers that both would be expelled (hamon 破門) for causing ripples (hamon 波紋). The riddle format hinges on the homophone so is a bit tricky to faithfully convey in English... ie I took the easy way out and just rewrote it sorry 😂 However I would like to give special mention to (the *hardest* working wiki editor) BoomerVoomer’s very clever stab at keeping it in tact: “One becomes a wave, and the other you wave goodbye”!!
