I've heard somewhere that the Oddity trailer was made using GameMaker Studio 2. If that's the case, the team has switched engines FOUR TIMES. - They started with RPG Maker - Switched to GameMaker (an older version) - A custom C++ engine - A custom C# engine - Back to GameMaker

When they rebooted it as Oddity I was really disappointed to find out its still a free game. Your average Earthbound inspired indie game takes 3 years of full time development to make. Of course working on this in your limited free time is going to take so long. They should just cut the bullshit and do a kickstarter to get the funding for a full blown release. Add console ports people will pay for it. I’m sure some people will be dicks about it but I’d rather pay money for it in three years time then have to wait a whole other decade.

One benefit of a short attention span is that I'll see a cool project, forget about it, and by the time I remember it, it'll already be finished or mostly done. Hopefully that'll happen the next time I remember Oddity.

That is probably the most healthy way to go about things. It is nice to follow along with development and to be reassured that things are going along fine but if the project in question is taking way longer than expected then you start to feel attached to the creation process more than the actual thing you're there for (since that is the extent of which you know about it). So when it inevitably releases there is a chance of you completely losing interest, especially if there are no demos or trailers so you have no way to gauge if it is still worth checking out or not.

@Moud_M I fully subscribe to Lyle McDouchebag's "No Game No Hype" approach when it comes to promotional materials. Until the game provably exists, it should be treated as vaporware. This is doubly true for free fan projects, as those have even more reason to go up in smoke due to the lack of a financial incentive to complete the game/video/movie/film/show/animation/book/etc.

2:27 Using parallel event triggers for diagonal movement, when you interact with an npc you need to set something to turn off that parallel event trigger. I've made rpg maker games before and decided to add that in half way through, doing that you'd have to manually put the trigger to turn it off the parallel event for diagonal movement at the beginning of on all the old events. Or else the player will still be able to move doing during dialogue or cutscenes.

I was in 5th grade when Mother 4 was announced, i only knew about it because a friend told me about and was hyping it up and i went on with life forgetting it ever existed, only when the other mother 4 got announced is when i decided to check on the first only to be disappointed that even when they made it oddity, there was no updates about it years later

I never played the demo and I had no idea it was this bad. I'm an indie dev hobbyist myself and from experience, 2D games are not hard. These people have no idea what they're doing. It's no wonder it's taking so long. It's just a shame that so many clearly talented artists were roped into this shitshow.

When I'm finished the Mother series, I hope to one day make an RPG as crazy and insane as the Mother series. I think I'll call it Weird World. For locations, Earthbound takes place in Eagleland, Foggyland and Chommo, which are based off America, Europe and Asia. Weird World takes place in Beaverland (based off Canada), Camelland (based off the Middle East), and Kangarooland (based off Australia). These three continents all have 5 regions. As for emotion, I'll take the sadness from Mother 3 and multiply it by six. That's all I'm revealing about Weird World. EDIT: Okay. I'll share a bit more. Unlike Mother 3 where you collect the Seven Needles, in Weird World, you collect the Seven Slices. And instead of the four party members in each Mother game, Weird World doubles it with eight party members, who are: A banana farming swordsman A living bathroom tile who wants to see the world A pastry loving scientist A robot of unknown origin with self-destruct capabilities A flower schoolgirl studying to be a shrine maiden A demon schoolgirl who loves picking fights Two twins training to be boxers That's officially it now, I swear.

I've actually played the decomp leak before, although the version I have is a little FUBAR, but what I did find might be some cool things you can do in the build: -In the test play, there is no limit to how many party members you have, so choosing Travis a bunch will in the overworld give you a giant conga line of Travis, although battles will crash the game. -numbers 1-9 will do something depending on what you are doing. In the menu, 1 will instantly boot you to the dev room, or to show off some UI elements if I remember correctly; there was one that I think was a bestiary to show off the sprites, but when you are in game, the numbers will start battles. - the battles from numpads have unique encounters, mostly just demo battles to show off the gameplay on the first few, but then after like number 7, you'll get a nice surprise when every enemy that was in the leak gets loaded in all at once. -If you have the decompile leak, it should include a couple tools you can mess with. spriteman took some time to understand what it was for, mostly it just allows you to adjust the keyframes between animation frames. it looks like the animators had to manually describe the pacing between frames by text, which kind of sounds awful but maybe they had another tool to not need to write that for more complex scenes. Distortionizer is the coolest tool though, as it is the battle background editor. The sliders are a bit of a hair trigger, but you can find yourself goofing around with the samples they have and making up your own backgrounds. Other than that, we at least know the original game engine they were making was called carbine since they called the project file carbine.csproj, and at that point it would be a better use of my time to give out the link for the mother 4 preservation project document, it's like 400 pages or something, but also yeah no shit, it's a project from 2009 and went through 3 different lead developers docs.google.com/document/d/1c5LVS5pSrobcJJCVG-Fif20jGmaRPR6ZB6GxSAGmH0E/edit?usp=drivesdk
