We FINALLY finished our CANOPY!!

We FINALLY have a canopy on the top of the entry door of our shipping container house!!! It took us a lot more time that we planned to be done, but in the end it looks exactly like we planned!! Of course nothing is perfect as it was the first time we worked with plyglass in our lives, but it’s perfect for its purpose: don’t have any rain on the entry door anymore. As usual: we are in love with it!!

We hope you guys liked the episode. So what is your opinion? Was it worth to build it on plyglass? We are curious to read your thoughts. Esperamos que tenham gostado do episódio. E ai qual a sua opinião? Valeu a pena utilizar esse método construtivo? Muito caro? Muito trabalhoso? Estamos curiosos para saber a sua opinião.

Ladder risk! I am not an expert but I think you have your ladders are too low an angle. For safe use I think they need to be quite a bit steeper. I don't want any accidents nor bad examples. Stay safe. Glad to see you use masks and eye protection. Watch your ear protection.

I love you guys, and I love what you're doing with the boat! (Later videos) But I gotta say: that canopy is way over-engineered, and it doesn't cover the right side of the door! (Should have moved it over a foot to the right). Anyway, the house is looking awesome, and I love your color scheme. Good taste! Also, love your internal framing-- brilliantly thought-out and done! Rock on!

The idea was to practice the boat building method, that’s we we have this canopy like this. We didn’t want to move it to the top of the window

You are the only Brazilians have been in close contact with and I have a cultural question for you. Is there a cultural and social difference in between costal and inland Brazilians? That is things like carnival, beach life and all. My step father was half Portuguese and American Indian, to me a great man. I am impressed with all the care you take with your construction. It is more like a piece of art work.

Thanks a lot Bruce!! For sure there are so many cultural differences in Brazil as it’s a pretty big country. Not just in between coast and country part. But also in between south and north. Actually there are so much cultural differences in between all the states. But at the same time we are really similar, we all celebrate carnival but we also have our own local way of living and accent. Hehehe it’s a huge and happy mix!!👌🏼😍😍

in a place like that.. white would be better, cuz that reflects the sun light, this dark paint will only help the metal to absorb more light, thus more heat... it looks nice, so that is not the issue.. :)

Hi. I want to congratulate you and tell you that your project is great and as I had to move to another country and start from scratch, I have proposed to do a project similar to yours. On the other hand, I would like to suggest for the benefit of whoever it is that we are going to do a similar project, that in the description of the video they put the detail of the amount of material and the tools they use, something like when you are going to make a cake and you put the ingredients and utensils.

so you build a wall of that green hanging plant or something to make a green wall to cool that place down during summer,you can add some mist nozzles to that to give them some water at night or something, i find my shipping container in france and will cost me around 6000$ to get it here 4000+ 2000 shipping and thats sucks but i think in the long run will worth it because now i live in a big city and i will be able to move it by train back home where i got my piece of forest ,i still wait to check the stock in the next spring maybe somehow i can find one here.

Have to agree with this. Also, why not just have a flat surface on top instead of catching water with the raised edge? The cables holding the canopy would be better off at a bigger angle. Maybe attach to the roof instead?
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 6 жыл бұрын
What we think is that if we have a flat surface we will end up with a waterfall right where we get in the house. With the raised edges we don’t have that anymore and we won’t need to go through the waterfall. The cables could go up to the wooden deck bit in our opinion wouldn’t look as good. As it is it’s holding really well on place. But as we always say. For sure it’s not the best solution. There are tones of different solutions for the same challenge. That’s just the one we decided to go with. 👌🏼😊
@JazzFunkNobby1964
@JazzFunkNobby1964 6 жыл бұрын
There will be rain around the edge of the canopy anyway so you will get wet whatever option you choose. I agree the cables look best as you've done them but to me they don't look like they are giving much support. I think the support you have is from how you attached the actual canopy to the wall of the container which may or may not be enough. How did you attach to the wall? Thanks for the reply I know you guys are busy.
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 6 жыл бұрын
Trust me the cables are holding. I do agree the angles of the cable could be better but some times we need to work with what we have. That’s stainless steel cable. And we know that is holding as we locked the cables before the wall screws. Of course the wall supports are also helping to distribute the forces and the weight but without the cables the canopy wouldn’t stay on place. It would bend the wall support that is welded on the SC or break the plywood. About the waterfall one thing is to have a few drips of water. A completely different thing is to have water from 2 square meters falling. As it is the majority of the water goes to the drain and we get a few almost none drops. To be honest we are 100% satisfied with the water situation. 😊👌🏼

I have heard about something called Faraday cage that says a metal box is the safest place to stay during lightening. @OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 6 жыл бұрын
Here we talked to a company to estimate how much would cost for us to have the house 100% solar and it would be something in between 3 and 4 thousands US $. In our opinion just by having such a small house and consuming a fraction if compared to a “regular” much bigger house we are already “more sustainable”. Of corse that just our rumble opinion. 😊😊

In all honesty, when doing DIY construction projects here in the US it takes significantly longer to try to find a way to do the work alone to avoid a neighbor or someone else "helping". People are friendly, but the risk of injury or a several thousand dollar hospital bill is too high. Thanks for sharing the video. Canopy looks great.
