Keith, Thanks a lot for another interesting video! It will be interesting to see how your furnace project progresses. Thanks for sharing all the goodies you purchased and were given. It still boggles the mind that the KZbin community is so generous. It takes a lot of work on your part to video your working, possibly using multiple cameras. The job isn't done then. There is editing, figuring where to place your "B" (or "C") roll shots, plus all the other elements you wish to use. Once the video is assembled and saved to a storage device, you have to upload it to KZbin. If you have a slow internet connection, this can take hours! The gifts you receive are our (your viewers) way of saying "Thank you!" for all your effort. Have a good one! Dave

Keith, I have an identical burner I build a few years back, using the same atomizer nozzle you have there. I found that rather then have a separate third line for the propane inside the blow pipe, I have better control by splitting the air line with a T-piece and two needle valves, so one starts of by running propane though the atomizer and then slowly start adding air and closing the propane until things are hot enough to run on only air and oil or whatever liquid fuel you using.

Hey Keith, I don't know what you will have left to chuck onto when you get the dial into the dividing head....but if you can grab it with a little 4" chuck I have one I can donate to the cause...and it's not Chinese!...Got "Made in England" stamped right on it!...lol I know it is a little smaller than you were looking for...but on the upside, I think there is enough meat on the backplate to bore it out to 2 1/4 and thread the plate that's on it...just let me know...and thanks for all the good work!
@AmateurRedneckWorkshop10 жыл бұрын
If you start feeling a little jumpy it could be the "Roo" jerky. The burner looks like one I have seen on some other channels. I guess it must be good or it would not be used by so many. Anyway I am interested in your brass casting and hope you keep us up to date on that. Thanks for sharing.
@royreynolds10810 жыл бұрын
On the burner- 1. The spinning vane should turbulate the air very well. 2. Consider piping in the propane on the other side from the oil so the propane comes out of the nozzle just as the oil does.

HI Keith. I have only just discovered your video's and I enjoy each of them very much. I enjoy the odds and ends the most just to see how the 'Yanks' ( no offence intended) do things with tools i have never seen. I am always fascinated how you tackle a job, sometimes the same as me, sometimes different. I tend to fast forward through the operations we do the same and watch with great interest where you do things different. The internet has given us all new insights that we may not ever have got before it. I hope you keep up the excellent work and i will continue to gain valuable insight into machining in the US.

as for the backplate, you could turn off the current thread and then recut a new thread and make a threaded sleeve to go on top, then it wont stick out any further than the current face
@chemech10 жыл бұрын
That spindle is awfully short - I can see threading an extender/adaptor - sort of like a pipe coupling, but turning it shorter? I'd not recommend doing that...
@jusb106610 жыл бұрын
chemech didnt mean shorter, but smaller diameter, so can rethread and add a ring with the tpi on the outer he needs to match chucks he can find, to change it from 4.5tpi to 8tpi for a more common fitting
@chemech10 жыл бұрын
Still not much meat to work with - the spindle is a hollow tube... You could build it up with weld metal, and turn and cut a new set of 2.25" - 8 threads, I suppose... It's probably a better solution to buy a faceplate with an un-threaded boss and cut new internal threads to mate up to the odd-ball 4.5 TPI on the spindle though...

@andywander10 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, there seems to be a misconception about the multiple-anvil mic sets. You shouldn't need to adjust them every time you change the anvil. That's why there is an adjuster on each anvil. You just pop it in and it should be good, assuming you zeroed them all at one time or another.
@chemech10 жыл бұрын
That kind of depends upon which design of this type of mic you are working with... some of the older ones, or the less expensive imports such as what I have, do not have that feature on the anvils, and you end up needing to re-zero the barrel for the new setup...

Hi Keith Another great entertaining video. For the naysayers, you forget the givers enjoy the giving and hearing their names on the channel. Most of us also enjoy seeing many of the odd tools given, and the explanations of how they are used. For those of you that this gives agida, use the preview at bottom of screen to skip to pure machining. And by the way it is the Keith Rucker show.

Keith, What about making up a custom work-holder - tapered shank and drawbar - for this job? It might be cheaper - and more accurate - and quicker, in that you can do this job while searching for a good mating chuck for the dividing head... Eric
@chemech10 жыл бұрын
***** Keith - the other thought that occurs to me is that you will want to mount the divider on an angle, such that the face of the dial is level, so that the tool to cut the score lines on the dial has an even depth of cut... In which case, a lesser weight makes for a less troublesome setup... Thanks! Eric

Hello Keith, Strange that people see the Odds and Ends as begging for more tools and stuff and I never had that feeling or thoughts about. Maybe those people forget how much time you spend on making video's, not only the filming of it but also editing many hours. Nobody pays you for all those hours of work so I think you deserve it. Besides, you mention so often that people don't have to send something and you even appreciate a little comment. Anyway, I like the Odds and Ends and also the projects, both are equal interesting, Odds and Ends for learning new tools I never had seen. Projects seeing you use the tools and how a lathe works, so both kinds of video's are equal for me. Really hope that you continue making Odds and Ends and hope you wil continue share what people send you. Thanx again for the video and looking forward to the next one ! Many greetings from Roel !

@therealfranklin10 жыл бұрын
chemech It's drawn out like awl, but further back, like ol'. Up here in New England we get some "I'll" pronounced with two syllables as "Eye-yill", & oil similarly as "oy-yill". Course, accents always remind me of watching movies where someone with a strong Texas accent is trying to play a Southerner (or vice versa). Or Malkovich's "now you hear it, now you don't" German accent in Shadow of the Vampire.

Good video Mr Rucker, got to comment about not telling folks about what kinda Jerky that is before they sample a little of it. I know a fellow that done that with goat milk. He whipped up a batch of home made ice cream. A few of us knew it had goat milk except for one person that's a critic of everything, they ate a couple of spoons full of it, they went on an on how good that was until they found out what it consisted of lol that kinda changed everything haha. It was actually quite good I thought lol. When you get some more decals made I would like to have one. You have a good day Sir.

In regards to the kangaroo jerky, I'm an avid viewer from Australia and I can shed some light on the 'Australian Government Programs' they speak of on the jerky bag. Many non australians don't realize this, but as cute as kangaroos are they are actually a pest, and the government has a culling program in place to contain their numbers as they compete with our sheep and cattle for resources (grass/water). Kangaroo meat is fairly lean, and is a healthier alternative to beef because it's lower in fat. Glad to see you enjoyed eating skippy! Haha. Keep up the great machining videos!

About casting, many of the problems with Bronze/Brass comes from the temperature of the metal in the crucible. In the old vid regarding the casting of Rodins "Gates of hell " the French had a terrible time keeping the temp high. There were many pourings that were disasters because of it. And they were using st ate of the art equipment aside from being fired I initially by oak. My suggestion n to you would be to be more inclined towards a higher t temperature simply because the liquid will flow more easily ,thusly avoiding I nclusions. It's merely a though but t why not think about it . Can't hurt as they say. Al
@chemech10 жыл бұрын
Also, at a higher temperature, the ,molten metal is more thoroughly de-gassed...
@alepadavano22710 жыл бұрын
And IF you can raise the temp high enough, perhaps Bronze will be in the works. Btw my field of study was Bronze age history/Archaeology . I'm a bit more attuned brass, bronze because of it. Good luck in your pouring.

Keith, I have been watching your videos for a few months now very interesting stuff i must say. I had a few questions for you. I recently purchased a Montgomery Ward Powr Kraft 17 Inch Drill Press/Router/Shaper Model THS2437B. I have searched all over the net and have found nothing in the way of documentation regarding this drill press. I know the company that sold this unit went out of business in the early 90's. My main question is this particular machine has a plastic cone on the top of the spindle that comes off i was wondering what this was for this same plastic cone will also install covering the chuck as well, I purchased this machine for 100 bucks did i get a good deal or did they see me coming.
@tonyemory361810 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. I did however find a user manual that closely resembles my particular machine. This particular user manual i believe is for a previous years model but none the less it is very close to what i currently have. I found out my main questions and many others i didnt know i even had yet. By the way this particular drill press was designed to become a router as well by flipping the head on end, The machine has 2 different spindles one that works like a standard drill press with speed ranges from 500 RPM to 2200 RPM and the upper spindle with a speed range between 2000 RPM to 22000 RPM. This is the router part of the press however my current machine has no way of attaching a bit of any type but that does not matter to me i only wanted the drill press part of the machine anyway.

Really fun to do the jerky trick, that is hilarious, your daughter is going to kill you man! We had to put down the ostrich from a small hotel zoo on the island of Kauai, in Hawaii, and me and the guy who worked as the zoo's landscaper served it as "smoked meat" to the whole group of waitresses at a monthly morning meeting along with pancakes and eggs buffet style, and some of those girls hated us forever after feeding them "Big Bird", a local tourist attraction, LOL!!! I was priceless to see some girls turn green and other girls you expected to flip out just mow it down without a word...ahh, that would be a priceless video, and the reactions you're going to get as well would be epic. Hope to see you next week :D Aloha, Chuck

***** Yeah that's the trick...it would been perfect to video the gals in the restaurant with an iPhone or something inconspicuous, LOL!!! I remembered that your daughter is a sharpshooter, but forgot to correlate that into meaning she's probably bagged some game in her time behind the trigger, so game is game, and kangaroos are like deer in that the places they were protected too long by the warm and fuzzy brigade they've become an environmental disaster, at least according to some friends from Australia I used to surf with, so they aren't in any danger of disappearing! Have fun and let us know how it goes if you get a chance! :D
