I have been asked to make a shield many times, Here is my take on two of Wonder Woman's Shields.
Patterns:

These are four images sized for US letter paper. Print all four at 100% size, line up targets and tape them together. then cut out. Need a light box so you can see through the paper? Hold them against a window on a sunny day.

I have to say, I really enjoyed seeing Odin's reaction to him tearing that foam circle. Just because that is exactly how I would react and it's nice to know other people react similarly.

Here is the final pattern from the video: imgur.com/a/zVmCC These are four images sized for US letter paper. Print all four at 100% size, line up targets and tape them together. then cut out. Need a light box so you can see through the paper? Hold them against a window on a sunny day. Single sheet Pattern: i.imgur.com/I4U6auZ.jpg Oversized paper, be creative on how to print this one. looking to make a bigger shield? Just extend the lines out, and draw a new arc like I did in the video. Want a real challenge? Make an OVAL shield by stretching the Single Sheet pattern before you print it. Say Vertical 115% and Horizontal at 90%. The pieces will still line up, and it will still dome out too!

I actually have come to love this channel more than DIY props because I know my fave prop maker is the only content that gets published here! Even if I'm more of a Spider-Man kind of girl, you have once again blown me away with your methods. At first, I was a bit confused, wondering how I would walk around at a Con carrying 20 odd some pounds of a shield. Then it all made sense! I doubt I would have thought of that, and it makes for a rather interesting piece of machinery to have on the set of your videos. I can't wait to see the next video, and hope you consider my suggestion at tackling Overwatch Tracer's intricate Chronal Accelerator! I would love to see how you cold make it light up and see all the pock-marks of bulletholes from Widowmaker. Love your commentary, ideas, and creativity, especially including the mistakes you made in the first shield's dimensions. A two-for-one Odin Makes video? SIGN ME UP.

I loved your fusion tsurugi (FFVII: Advent Children) sword build you did on DIY Prop Shop and I am wondering if the same techniques you used for that can be used to make other types of swords? For example, could you do a build of Kirito's "Elucidator" or "Dark Repulsor" from the anime "Sword Art Online"? For those types of swords, would you tackle them the same way or would you do something completely different?

Hey Odin, great job on this project. I learned a lot of new techniques from it. Small question about plastidip though. I heard it covers small mistakes and gaps in the eva foam pretty well, but wouldn't this also mean that it hides some of the score marks if they aren't wide enough?
@OdinMakes
@OdinMakes 7 жыл бұрын
+OptimusWII- Plasti Dip has to build up to hide the marks. If you use the brush on liquid and not just the spray can, it would defiantly hide these score marks. The guys who make boffer shields for Belegarth always paint a layer or two with thinned brush-on first, and then spray over it. This makes their shields tough enough to last a few years! They do a coat of spray last, as Plasti Dip is self-solvent, and the spray coats will level out the brush marks from the first layer. So, if the brush-on is used, Plasti Dip would absolutely cover the score marks. But this is just one real-world example that I know of.
@optimusWII
@optimusWII 7 жыл бұрын
Oh wauw, that's awesome that the spray coat can level out the brush strokes. While I'm asking you questions, would you mind helping me with another one? It's my first time working with eva foam and I've got some rather large gaps between the layers. What would you advise to fill them? You mentioned kwik seal but I'd prefer something that's also sandable.

Hey Odin, I am planning on trying the snow sled route for the shield. Should I do the straps the same way you did, or another way?
@OdinMakes
@OdinMakes 6 жыл бұрын
Contact Cement will stick to the plastic, if you rough it up first. Figure out where you are going to glue the inside circle piece for the straps, mark it, and then sand it with 120 or lower grit sand paper. Just scratch the hell out of it. What you want to do is really rough up the surface, so the glue has something to get into and hold onto. The scratches don't need to be deep, just plentiful, and really rough to the touch. Contact cement will likely just peel off the smooth finish of the sled if you just paint it on without any prep work. Don't worry, it won't take long, and don't sand anywhere you want to paint later, leave that smooth! Be carful you don't scratch the front while working, blue tape it, or lay it on a towel while sanding the inside. I have not touched a saucer sled in many years, and I don't know what type of plastic they are made from, but some plastics really don't like spray paints. And most vinyls will never allow spray paint to dry. Seriously, never. The paint is tacky for years... RIP vinyl Terminator model kit... You can test spray paint on the center of the inside, it will get covered anyway. If the paint you want to use does not dry, then go to an automotive store, and get spray paint made for car interiors! Most cars have vinyl seats, and that spray paint (it's about $10 a can) will stick, and it will dry. It's really stinky, and smells horrible for a couple of days, but it really works. After a good coat of say, black or grey car paint, you can then paint whatever spray paints you want on top of it, and they have always worked for me. If you want to do Cap's shield, regular automotive paints will have the bright colors with a metallic finish, and it may look really good.

I'm new here Odin and my favorite childhood superheroes were Batman cyclops and wolverine. I would love to see Batmans cowl or wolverines mask or possibly Jim lee's cyclops googles. Thank you for taking time out of your day and uploading videos . I never been to comic con and I like to watch cosplayers make their own costumes and weapons here on KZbin. Awesome video I own a couple action figures of Wonder Woman.

Nicely done, but may I suggest not washing with black, and instead using dark brown. I learned this from miniature painting that brown washing over gold and bronze creates a natural looking dull tarnish that's more realistic and gives a lot of depth to the faux metal. Then a quick dry brush of the gold on the raised surfaces gives the impression that the metal has been buffed to some extent. Side note, still wanna see Balsac's Jaws of Death helmet from Gwar lol.

Cool, I will try to break the habit. I can get really tired at the end of a build and "wanna-get-it-done" at that point. LOL
