Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the U.S. presidential debate between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden, saying "of course" he had seen it.
Asked about Trump's suggestion that the war in Ukraine could be ended swiftly, Putin said that Russia took him seriously.

It should’ve been ended during 2022 spring negotiations in Istanbul. Both Ukrainians and Russians were closing in on the specifics of the peace treaty, but then Boris Johnson walked in and reassured Ukrainians that they can win on the battlefield. Two years and hundreds of thousands of combined deaths later and yet we are still here. It has to end at a negotiating table and I believe Mr. Trump has the capacity to broker that deal.
