Or if twitters not your deal and you want the juicy stuff out of there. The fan run subreddit might be what youre looking for: / boundarybreak
Authors Comments: 007 gave me some trouble this week but its still great to get all the Rare classics out there. Its always a blast revisiting the most influential titles from my childhood and having something new to show the gaming community.
And if you've been keeping a close eye on my series. You may have noticed this episode came out rather early huh? We're finally seeing the impact that dedicating full time to youtube is having. Whether it be getting a hefty episode like Skyward Sword out in less than 2 weeks or producing shorter episodes like this in less than 1 week. And honestly, I couldve released Skyward Sword in a week if i was willing to compete with the Nintendo Switch presentation.
Anyways back to Goldeneye. Did any body else have made up rules for the multiplayer in this game? I rememember making up a game mode called "The Incredible OddGlop" Which involved a 3 on 1 team against oddjob who gets the golden gun and gets to be on his knees. While the other three players hold up in the bathroom with automatics, trying to kill oddjob before he kills everyone else. It was a ton of fun

The reason why the file folders are 3D is because the developement team of GoldenEye didn't have anyone who were experienced in 2D animation, only 3D. In an interview with the GoldenEye team, the 3D artist even stated that, graphics in the game that look 2D, like the bullet count on your screen for instance that looks like a little 2D bullet, is actually a 3D model that has been altered and squished down to where it looked 2D in order to save space.

It seems to me that the developers were aiming for a folder opening style for the file select screen. You would select your document, then it would open up and zoom in to the next menu. That'd be fun to see, would it not?

Goldeneye 64 was literally created by 3 guys who knew nothing about game design. iirc they first got the rights for the game and improvised literally everything. At first they thought they were making a sidescroller, then they thought it could be a light gun game, then one of them created the splitscreen multiplayer as a joke.

the polygonal complexity and decent texturing of the player hands versus everything else in the game still surprises me to this day. as for the car doors, I'm pretty sure that there's actually seperate groups on them and there's a cut sequence where an npc enters the truck and the door closes on level fly in. last time I found it it was a very broken sequence viewable somewhere in the goldeneye setup editor or other ge/pd mesh viewer.

@Shesez: 1:00 : it's not a "layer technique" by the developers, it's because the z-order isn't recalculated for the view according the new camera coordinate you're putting in with the emulator. So it's normal the polygon order is quite not "right". Actually the draw order is still the same as if your point of view was the original one. It's not a bug either, the game wasn't coded to allow the camera to be separated from the "player" coordinates :)

A detail of the z-order calculation of vertices in the model fixed to the camera... sounds like a layer technique to me :p
@satan2k
@satan2k 7 жыл бұрын
Hmm yes and no... It's not really layers, and "technique" implies they decided it this way but in this case they didn't. They just had no clue people would dissect the game entirely with an emulator. I mean the drawing of the model is pretty much standard from an opengl point of view of this era.
@imagoatbah
@imagoatbah 7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, just splitting hairs over the semantics. The z depths of the vertices could conceivably be referred to as layers of sorts and since they deliberately didn't recalculate them knowing they would never need it, then perhaps their lack of a technique in this case is in itself a technique. So "layer technique" isn't that far off as a vague description. Not ideal terminology, but for a non technical discussion, ehhh why the hell not :)

Actually, the N64 controller model on the pause screen can be spun around in game. So the revelation about it being a full model with a Z button and space for the rumble pak slot isn't much of a revelation - you can see the back of the model without need for camera manipulation.
@Stuffies2022
@Stuffies2022 11 ай бұрын
I know it’s six years late, but how do you spin it?
@BenCol
@BenCol 11 ай бұрын
@@Stuffies2022 If you pause the game and go to the controller settings menu, there's an option called 'controller'. When selected you can then spin the controller model. You can also mess around with the buttons - I think it's meant to be a way of trying out a control scheme before selecting one.

using emulator, and a action replay code, you can get on the dock, then press a key that's binded to the code as you walk into the invisible wall, and it pushes you through, allowing you to walk over to the island, but there is nothing there besides a watch tower that has a inactive turret, and the empty sniper shack. still looks cool up close though. Pretty sure someone else commented all this but if not, there us go. again. You are in my prayers with everything going on with you dude, remember, your life comes first, KZbin comes second. No matter what any of these people say, You do you. Glad you vented to everyone earlier tonight, any therapeutic relief in these situations is good. and for every fuck on here that "doesn't want to hear it", there's 50 of us listening with tears in our eyes mate. so pep up, keep strong, and keep moving on :) we all are here for ya.

on N64 was easier to make a 3d model than using just bitmap, as a 3d model is lighter than a full res bitmap. also you can repeat a 3d model using the same textures(needing only 1 texture for more models)

Just wanted to say what a fan I am of your videos. If I could vote for what I'd love to see, N64 era games for sure!! PS1, PS2, Dreamcast are good too. Keep up the awesome videos. Thanks.
