I’ve built many many houses in my life, and I am now 70 years old. One thing I really like about Chris, is how meticulous he is to detail !! I don’t see any shortcuts that he takes to save a little manual labor. Actually, some of the little details he does in my opinion don’t need to be done. But hey, it’s his house and it’s better to over build then to under build !! Keep up the great work and I really love your videos. Thanks for sharing and God bless. ✌🏼😎💯

I want to know the budget on nails because my god that a lot of nails in one Board ?
@northtoalaska20223 ай бұрын
Nails are cheap compared to 28 foot lvl beams, or through bolts. It's all about the calculation of holding strength at that splice if that is what you are referencing. 95 lbs shear strength per nail. Could I have gotten away with less, for sure just need to buy more structural screws. Instead. Honestly, some things I have needed to do on this build, I would do differently if I were building in another part of the country where supplies were more affordable and conditions were different or we had a higher budget.

@@northtoalaska2022 These are difficult times, but seeing a young couple building their own home, combining ancestors' techniques and knowledge with tools created by people who understand how to make life easier for those who are working, is inspiring. Man, you have to be going through about a case of nails a week! Seriously, some feedback on the tools ya'll use and thoughts would be great! That nailgun has got to have had some maintenance work for all the cases of nails it has driven. Looks great, thanks for all the work filming, editing and commenting, we all appreciate it!
@northtoalaska20223 ай бұрын
I will have to add up the nails at the end, a quick estimate off the top of my head would be just over 20k nails so far. Probably another 5k ring shank nails will go into the sheathing to tie it all together. I have heard a professional builder mention an average home they build takes 70k nails so we are not doing bad but this is a smaller structure as well. No issues with the nail gun to date. The biggest complaint I have with the m18 nailer is it is heavy to work with over the top of my head compared to an air nailer. A small battery helps. The only real issue we have had with the Milwaukee stuff so far is one bad m18 battery at 4 years old, one bad m12 battery at 2 years age, and both of our 1/4 inch impact drivers are suffering with worn-out Chuck that holds the bit. I think this can be repaired when I have free time. Would be interesting to make a review about them just to share, but I have noticed a lot of people get too sensitive when you talk about tool brands on the internet so I just avoid it because I honestly don't care to persuade anyone either way. I have owned almost all brands and they all fail some just last longer. Thank you for the compliments!
