When nick goes into details about his business, his marriage, childhood, etc. Im on the edge of my seat. Admiring him for being more proactive in his communication. Admiring him for volunteering to be THE FIRST to open up. When he's done talking, I feel...incomplete. why? Because he didnt explain anything. Lol. The only story I know beginning to end is his Mar-Great story. His uncooked chorizo story. His jealous behavior at the Grove. And his ability to turn on all gas knobs with his fanny pack. Lmao.😂 I will continue to be patient. I chalk it up to Nick being the youngest one, and hes still finding his voice.

Most Asian parents are strict and mold their kids, so you and your Asian partner could grow up the same way and have similar mannerisms that remind you of your a sibling. Whereas white people parents let you have the freedom to be whatever and more often than not, give you independence to be yourself.

Im Indonesian and I grew up with alot of hispanics so I prefer hispanic women. I agree with Joe, dating someone thats hispanic, white or black compared to dating someone from a different asian country than you are, the feeling is still the same. It still feels "foreign" compared to someone thats from the same country as you are. Doesn't matter if you are both asian. I would compare it to a White or Black American dating someone thats from England

Hearing everyone's stories, I can definitely attest one or two of my many experiences to each person in the group. I ain't gonna lie that it's just the plain truth. That still doesn't give me a reason to remain single to this day, but eventually I will end up with a woman with the same upbringing of class, rather than culture. I'm always an open-minded person willing to learn different cultures, language, traditions, and other things that make the people who they are in this world. I can't blame my parents or anyone for raising me the best they did from their own upbringing, but I don't allow anything to set me back to find the best definition of how a married life should be.

Only certain Asians. Many Asians do date within. A lot of southeast Asians will gear toward Asians. It seems the weird 'dating family' comes from Chinese, Japanese and Koreans. As an Asian American, I was kind of confused the first time I heard it because my people never had that thinking lol.

Asian Americans thinking dating the same culture is like dating family is so weird. I know why it happens but it's still so weird. What Bart says sounds really right though, the parents would treat someone from the same culture with less respect because they assume they should know cultural customs.
@baby_g2552
@baby_g2552 Жыл бұрын
Dating the same culture is like dating family is straight up just internalized racism. Cause y’all are ACTUALLY not related so to still have that narrative while knowing that you are literally not related to each other is just pure ignorance. Like bro you just don’t like dating your race lol just say that
@PandoraBear357

I grew up in a 5,000 population town that was 99% white. There was a girl from India and 3 male cousins in my grade. The 4 of us were the only Asians in our entire class. Two female cousins were in the grade above us, and my younger brother was in the grade below us. So, it literally would be dating family in some cases. There are also some cultural misogyny reasons why even after high school, I wouldn't date my own ethnicity. Even if a guy is great, their parents would probably expect an obedient daughter-in-law who lived under their thumb and I didn't want that kind of life. I saw too many of my cousins' wives getting dragged and treated like they were horrible by my aunts just for little things like going out with their friends twice a month or expecting their husband to do dishes occasionally. No thanks.
@baby_g2552
@baby_g2552 Жыл бұрын
@@PandoraBear357 okay the first part of what you said is kind of a special case cause the target demographic are not gonna literally date their cousins or only have their cousins that are the same ethnic background as them. And I understand where you are coming from and how toxic immigrant in laws and whatnot can be. But at the same time, for those that aren’t actually dating their family and have that knowledge but are trying pretty hard to push that narrative, it further reiterates that they don’t like dating their race. That’s not to say that they can’t date other races but often times, that stems from a place of internalized racism which was typically influenced by cultural norms in the west and also beauty standards.
@PandoraBear357
@PandoraBear357 Жыл бұрын
@baby_g2552 so, I will add that I am also Southeast Asian and technically 1st generation as I am a naturalized citizen, though I came over as a toddler so am more like a 2nd gen, and there is a big difference in both ethnic culture and western influence for SEA Asians compared to East Asians whose communities are decades more established. Most SEA communities have only been here since the '70s and subsequent decades, so the 'old world' thinking of elders still has a lot more sway. There was a lot of push by the older people in my life to only date within my own ethnicity and to uphold the ethnic standards that they felt I must uphold. Add on top of that that I am from an ethnic minority too, so pretty much everyone in my state who is my ethnicity is somewhat related because there just aren't that many of us total. It's not pushing a narrative. It is simply a statement of personal experience. There are also plenty of Asians who only date their ethnicity or at least their own race. 🤷‍♀️

I'm totally on the opposite side of these people. I think as I get older I have more pride in myself and my ethnicity, I can't see myself dating a non asian anymore more nor do I have the desire to fit in or assimilate like my parents or 1st gen asians do. Maybe it's because asians are "cool" now and we aren't seen as less than like we used to in the past that feeds into my pride. Guys it's 2023, most ppl watching this is probably 3rd or 4th gen asians, just be comfortable and have pride in yourself and ethnicity.

I have a similar experience with Joe. I'm half Japanese/Filipino but grew up dominantly Japanese (my mom speaks Japanese in the house to us when growing up). When I was younger, I lived in Ohio. My school had maybe 1-2 other Japanese/Asian people in my school depending on their parents' contract for work otherwise it was predominantly white. I barely saw any Japanese girls except for when I went to Japanese school on Saturdays (which I hated so much) so I don't think I've ever looked at girls that way in school but I had female friends up to now from there. I did date one Japanese girl who grew up in the US like I did with a similar background (class) when I moved to Japan for work. We hit it off right from the start and dated for quite a while but it was difficult bc we were in a LDR. (She spent half her time in Japan with her mom , half her time in US with her dad). Eventually broke off but for sure I felt judged by her mom the most and it was the one relationship where I felt like I didn't feel accepted by one parent or the other. Every other relationship I've been in (Korean, Chinese, Australian, Filipino), they've all accepted me and I felt like I was part of their family for the duration of the relationship. Now I live in the Philippines, and I don't see many Japanese girls around my age. Mostly expat Japanese guys here. I know a lot of halfies like me here but majority of them don't speak a lick of Japanese or know much about the culture or their dad (who's usually the Japanese one) left the family and moved back to Japan or passed away. Living here, I seem to relate more to the Koreans or Filipino-Chinese families here even tho a lot of them have a "great wall" hahaha IFYKYK

Jessie’s been great but it’s disappointing to see her be another to fall to the trope of lumping everyone of their own ethnicity to being someone they would see as like a family member. What’s with so many Asian Americans and generalizing others of their own kind this way, ain’t no other race ever say this. Like no matter what we do, even Asians won’t stop consider Asians as “other”. Not saying at all that she should only date own ethnicity, but to so easily dismiss everyone just bc they’re the same as her without shame is kinda sad

I can't speak to the larger ethnic groups who have been here for 3+ gens, but for a lot of SEA Asians, we've only been here 1 or 2 generations. Extended families tend to settle near each other, and a lot of the 1st gens in our parents age bracket did marry within ethnicity. In a lot of cases the people of our ethnicity in our area are going to be like our 1st, 2nd. 3rd cousins or related to our cousins.

What I realized over the years is, that "Asian Americans" are mostly wayyyyy less asian than other asian people who grew up outside of Asia. They take too much pride in "America" and mostly can't even speak their language. Even half asian kids growing up in Europe are mostly able to speak their asian language fluently and have been back to Asia almost yearly. Where "Asian Americans" go back to Asia almost never, maybe 1-3 times a lifetime. Asians growing up outside of America are mostly way much prouder and drawn to their asian culture and roots.

I understand what Bart is saying, but the Pocahontas/John Smith example is terrible. Pocahontas had no choice. She was forced into it. The Native/white example I get it. Two different cultures, but come on now

As an Asian dude it really depends on how you react or becomes someone who you really are and the cultures it really depends on families or depends how you act around with people, it really depends your personality and if you really think about another person that is like your parents than you guys are pretty gross in the mind not gonna lie though😅

Hmong kids now days be dating each other for years then only to find out they are cousins. Hmong parents for some reason they just never introduce or re-introduce their kids to their aunts and uncles. This is one reason why I am afraid of asking out hmong girls, any of them could be a cousin of mine. What worst somehow you parents fill find some random hmong people at the super markets, they'll have a friendly chat and then boom they become your non-blood related aunts and uncles, then their sons and daughters become your non-blood related cousins. Then we also have this unspoken tier list that you're supposed to understand as you grow up but you have no fucken idea what its suppost to make sense. Then boom you find out that the girl that you're dating (that is the same age as you) is some how your niece, or she is your aunt. All of this comes out either by having him or her talk to each others parents or when they are engaged. ITS JUST A BUNCH "FUCK YOU'S" THAT OUR ANCESTOR'S HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR US, AND TO ME IT'S A WHOLE BUNCH OF BULLSHIT! This is what I'm afraid of most and yet my parents still expect me to find a myself a hmong girlfriend. This is nearly impossible with 60% that they are family and 20% that they are not and 20% that they share the same last name as me. These numbers don't change no mater how far you look for a girl. Unless I get a girl that is not of my ethnicity then its a 10% chance that I get to marry her and a 90% chance that I won't get to marry her.

@@gaymer-j This isn't harsh it's the truth. Who said I didn't choose, who said my parents pick the life I lived. To be honest I thought this was just funny. I live a different life than some but not most. These are just some of the few things that are different. We live the same lives and strike at the same goal. Our personal perspectives my change but the goal stays the same.

You just made bs up. That's sad. You want attention so bad. Hmong people do not allow marriages of the same clans. Just because Hmong elders use titles for distance relatives or Hmong outsiders as aunt, uncle.. do not mean they are blood relatives. It's just a form of respect. Don't try to make bs up. You're a clown for making nonsense.
