I love that cannon responce offbeat lol like something i think that hinders the canon also (correct me if i am wrong) after going through all the prep time that your DeFiNiTeLy going to be given, dont a lot of high level monsters have resistance or outright immunity to non magical attacks (which i assume a normal cannon counts as unless your casting something like magical weapon on it) so youve spent all that time at the table setting this shit up and cut scene style scream fire at the skeletons and the dm just turns to you saying "the canonballs bounce harmlessly off of tiamat." I mean how deflated would you be 😂

​@@nerdygraves It's one cannon, you're just rotating the skeletons who are loading and firing it. DnD as a system doesn't care how many times a weapon is used in a round, just that people have the actions to use it. Essentially, the skeletons form an undead autoloader, that has a rate of fire equal to eight rounds per second. That being said, still stupid. Oh, and too OP, for ranged weapons, the weapon itself can be mundane, you just need magic ammo.

If Resistance/Immunity is really something you're worried about, just swap Evocation with Scribes. It only does ~70 less damage using the hexblade version of the build.

For those who are curios for a variant that has more team support is switching the subclass to chronurgy for some dice fuckery and droping a wizard level and investing in wisdom for a level in peace cleric mainly for emboldening bond but also for Guidance and healing spells

Hi guys I'm offbeats dm, the guy who is happy to tussle w these insane builds for four years running, I could wreck that cannon idea w ease. offbeat didn't even mention the gun powder let alone the fact that Tiamat wouldn't just be alone and approachable w an army OR THE INSANE TIME IT WOULD TAKE TO FABRICATE THE ARMY. like what are ya gonna pop a squat NEARBY and get to cooking? one cannon is ten minutes, you need how many cannons? what is Tiamat just gonna let you teleport in an army? I think the skelecannons idea was based around pre-fight prep not fabricating mid-fight, and probably presumes you're using all slots across like a week or whatever. Still not necessarily the best build given how squishy those skeletons are and a smart dragon can still wreck havoc with guerilla flying and convenient nearby obstructions, but yeah necromancers can get insane if you dedicate yourself to it (I once toyed with some math on like how many skeles a warlock 11 / necromancer 9 can get but I'm now realizing I forgot to consider the extra slots of a controlled mummy lord so I might go toy with what the numbers of a warlock 5 / necromancer 15 and compare to amuse myself lol).

@@OffbeatOutlaw Something to note about animate dead: per the last bit before the higher levels description, you can use it to reassert control of up to 4 undead if recast on them before the 24 hours, so spending all spell slots over the course of a week or whatever, slowly building up the numbers from the smaller per creation cast to the larger to maintain control cast numbers, is possible, if ridiculous, and can get up to triple digits (if one is going to do something this absurd they better be planning well enough to make sure they always get the control castings within that 24 hour mark lol). The Necromancer subclass level 6 feature's +1 created per creation casting speeds up the buildup process and lets you create an extra minion for that final load that you won't be able to fully fill in the control of. To be fair, this is on the level of running at the speed of sound, theoretically possible but who in their right mind would do it lol

A demi-culverin cannon could weigh as much as 3400 pounds! A saker 1900 pound. A Culverin 4000 - 4800 pounds. How in 9 hells are ya gonna carry that much material to fabricate a cannon? That's not including weight of gunpowder and shot and water.

A better idea than the cannon guy is to just resurrect undead as you can before long rests and stuffing them into a separate dimension. You then randomly release the horde of undead on some encounter that's giving you trouble in which you aren't fighting a literal nuke. (Just be careful as these undead will target you and your party)

about my comment, sorry if it came off wrong, it was not meant as knowing better or to discredit the build, my apologies. I do think it's a very good build the damage output it outranks anything in the game and is the one if not the strongest build in the game it's more that there are plenty of people who see the thumbnail with a title like "most powerful build" and think that are invinicible or that it can do everything and get a bit too much into it. but to anwser some of your responses, i didn't mean both you and your simulacrum are both get dominated, but keep in mind that the simulacrum follows your spoken commands and directions, so if you can get the wizard charmed/dominated, by exstention they have to follow the command of the charmed wizard. also while yes, you can pretty much always win counterspell duals, and spells are plentiful at high level, in my experience abilities or spell-like effects are also fairly common , or spells with longer range than counterspell (among other stuff like psionics, but that is less common). and while +5 widom saves is not bad, at the levels this wizard is and the monsters you face at that level, you still need a fairly high roll to succeed (with dc's around 19-24) But you also made some fair points, something like antimagic field does work for most effects, and i didn't consider globe of invurnarbility, that is my bad. and yes i do tend to ramble sometimes, guess that's a bit of habit of mine.

Any DM that lets a player set up a cannon for 10 minutes in front of Tiamat is definitely planning some way to invalidate the build. Its me, I'm one of those DMs. First off, Tiamat has immunity to non-Magical weapon. Cannon is useless. Second, I dont subscribe to the bullshit that lets the laws of physics not apply based on action economy. We aren't playing commoner railgun simulator here. Lastly, all the Skeletons get the same initiative and would you look at that, they rolled lower than Tiamat somehow... And they're all dead from the Breathe Weapons. Albeit tbh, I'd just have Tiamat attack before the cannon is made and end that PC. This mans skeleton cannon idea is stupid.

To be fair, I didn't recall you mentioning Illusionist specifically, but yeah any wizard can potentially stack a bunch of stuff for absurd damage... Also something I'll toss in to clarify: the homebrew I like includes you can't both cast a levelled spell and reaction spell (counterspell) on the same (your own) turn, you'll need an ally watching your back to counterspell the counterspell to your own spell, but those few bonus action cantrips don't prevent action levelled spells. Yes, it's a little evil, but logically interrupting one spell to toss out a different spell and resuming the first shouldn't be easy if indeed even possible for mortals without some divine boon or something.

Okay, but Offbeat, have you considered on the cannon idea, creating the cannon outside of combat. You cast Enlarge/Reduce on a medium sized cannon, stuff it in a bag of holding, summon all the skeletons, stuff them in the bag of holding with the cannon. When the time comes, turn the bag inside out, everything including the cannon pops out, cast enlarge reduce on the cannon again to make it large, then have the skeletons fire it? Still incredibly stupid, but marginally less stupid than spending ten minutes or a wish spell, to Fabricate a large cannon, in the middle of a fight.

One of the most fun build i have found is an arcana cleric build that can do about infinite damage in 1 turn. Spell you need for this build 9th level: Meteor Swarm (from arcane mastery) 7th level: Simulacrum (from arcane mastery) take the feat quicken spell. here is what you do before the combat. spend 12 hours creating a simulacrum and make sure it has a divine intervention use. in battle: Simulacrum acts on your turn and takes these actions Bonus actions quicken meteor swarm Action divine intervention on original self who has full resources and cast simulacrum this will create a new simulacrum with full resources and a divine intervention as it is a copy of your who has not cast any spells or used divine intervention. now this is just theoretical so if you find any flaws please tell me

I see at leasst two, I think three, isssues: 1: the PHB states that "The DM chooses the nature of the intervention; the effect of any cleric spell or cleric domain spell would be appropriate." I would interpret this as the DM having full control over the intervention including the type of spell cast. Means you can't use Divine Intervention as a guaranteed simulacrum. 2: Even so the casting time of Simulacrum still applies so that intervention would take 12 hours to be effective (even if it only costs you 1 action) 3: This feels so obvious I'm not sure if it's true. Buut, without Action Surge you wouldn't be able to cast two levelled spells in a round so Meteor Swarm is a bust.

1: divine intervention says you request the intervention you desire which means you could say "i wish for the spell simulacrum to be cast" the dm can still go against this but that's up to them and how they think the god would act. 2: divine intervention acts sort of like wish in that it ignores casting time and just duplicates the effect. 3: divine intervention is not casting a spell it is duplicating the effect of a spell. fun part of this is no counterspell
