As someone who's lived in Anaheim (Platinum Triangle, mere minutes from the action). I can say that getting a people mover (or begrudgingly plan B, the monorail) into action is going to really help traffic in the backstreets that the buses currently take, They all line up on Disneyland Dr. for that turn toward Toy Story and block those of us that just wanna go to Cheesecake Factory :/

I just went to DLR for the first time a few months ago (aka the week after splash closed) and I never noticed how much the people mover adds to the vacation experience. It was a time waster ride (not saying that it’s bad, I love it to death) but now I see it as the thing keeping me at the parks. In MK I would stay from park open to about 10 pm and in DLR it would be park open to five pm, and I attribute that all to the majestic people mover, featuring old Epcot (also the closure of splash and the fantasyland dark rides being down that week also may have helped)

My personal opinion as a tourist, I don’t like the idea of wasting the Toy Story lot acreage on a Disney Springs area. That land has been zoned for theme park use since the 90s and I would far prefer a 3rd gate on that property over anything else. As a tourist I can’t think of a single thing they could put in a Disney Springs type area that would entice me to go over there rather than being in the parks riding rides and watching shows. Also I still want a Value resort for DLR. at one point the Grand Californian was the deluxe and Paradise Pier and Disneyland Hotel were both Moderates. If I were given the ok to do anything I wanted to build out DLR, I’d finally acquire the GardenWalk property and use that as Downtown Disney East. That property is the missing link to connect everything. I’d make the Toy Story lot a 3rd gate, I’d ditch the tram and replace it with the Peoplemover system going from Mickey & Friends/Pixar Pals to the current Monorail Station, then over to the esplanade. Then I’d set up a 3rd piece of the Monorail station as a Skyliner, have that go over to Eastern Gateway, then down to the 3rd gate. Basically the existing monorail station would become a new Transit Center housing all 3 modes, the Skyliner would load parallel to the Monorail but towards the DTD shops side and the Peoplemover would be on the parking lot side.

I too am pro PeopleMover (Go Dallin!) But since you mentioned the sound study, I want to put my foot into the door before it closes... Backstory: Grew up doing weekly treks to DL since 1973 until 2015. Before that, my grands lived at 916 Hampstead St. (Just off Ball Rd.) and we were there anytime my folks needed a sitter until I was 10. Anytime we were there about every 15 minutes we could hear the Mark Twain whistle. It is to me one of the most iconic sounds of the park and is extra cherished by me because of the time at my grands. The last few trips I have made, (Now twice yearly from Jersey.) I noticed that the Twain's whistle has been silenced. Or at least neutered to the point of inaudibility. Am I nuts? When was the last time you saw that great escape of steam when the whistle blew? In line for Pirates, it would often make ya jump. Now whenever I am there, all I hear are the WDRR train whistles. And they are not as strident as they used to be either. And even the monorail is a victim. Did they stuff the Grover 1056's full of cotton? They are quieter too. And they don't honk anywhere near as often. I get it. Noise pollution & neighbors. But am I the only guy that misses the Twain's commanding blast?

From a true local, born and raised in SoCal since 77, we welcome the proposed expansion of the parks! It's a miracle they are even considering it since Walt started expanding in Florida and elsewhere soon after Disneyland was finished. For us Disneyland is our culture, a part of our past, our memories as children and our future...and I for one welcome the idea of Disneyland Forward as part of that future ❤ More Disneyland please! 😊

I went to wdw and for you the first time I rode something twice vs riding somethingnew it was people mover cause I knew it was running slow/stopping so I knew I'd get extra time and it was at night!!! Lmao it was great.

I think this expansion is actually two expansions, each being a new land for DL and DCA and they will be physically isolated from one another except via ticket gates. You can see on the sound color map from the Disneyland hotel to Downtown Disney a dotted red area with lines connecting, these signifies high traffic walking area, you can see it on the streets outside the park except the dots are larger since cars make more noise than people. Then on either side (north and south) of that pathway from the Disneyland hotel to DTD there is another pathway of sound and more importantly a choke point with buildings on either side of it, as in this could be another gate to either DL or DCA via these new lands, but you can't access the other side unless you have a park hopper ticket so it allows people to enter that way as well. Notice there is a rather large area of "quieter" around that pathway from the hotel? Almost like a big open plaza similar to the one between DL and DCA which will typically be a quieter area as people don't tend to congregate there. And most importantly it allows people staying at their hotels to have almost instant access to these other lands, again simply extensions of the other parks, I would see this similar to that gate at Epcot that allows you instant access to the back of the park. Now how they have a pathway from the parks over Disneyland Drive to this expansion I dunno, that would be a rather long walk from either park, Peoplemover anyone?! 🤣 Ultimately this project is too "small" to be a separate park, now they could go full Universal with the Hogwarts Express and make these expansion lands only available if you have the park hopping option on your ticket. But I don't even think Bob Chapek would be that greedy... yeah he would.

Getting the Peoplemover working would be a relatively cheap way to update the park, provided they changed the way it worked. If they power the cars directly and don't have to rely on the track for power they don't need to be more than just rails.

This is how the third gate issue has been explained to me by people who work with Disney. (I'm going to use letters to better decipher this but Disneyland is Park a, California adventures park is b and the new park will be called Park c for this example) You can buy a ticket for Park a and that will include entrance to Park c. Or you could buy a ticket for park B that would include the entrance to Park c. Now if you're planning to exit into Park a or b from c that's when you'll have to scan your ticket, only exiting into one of the previous parks. If your pass is for b&c and you try to enter a it will prevent you from going there but Park c is going to be treated as an in-between that right now is included with a single park pass no matter the park.😂 It just feels like to much lol

This west side project needs to be a 3rd gate. Why? I remember the days of trudging all the way to the parking structure whilst the trams were down - and this is the same distance. It makes the parks completely unmanageable. I mean, even the walk back to Galaxy’s Edge is pushing it for most. 14 attractions is more than enough for another gate. Plus - from a marketing standpoint, it will increase vacation length to the DLR - which they have tried to do for decades.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is adding a people mover type ride to their new DC themed section. Its called Metropolis Transit Authority. If a six flags can get a people mover, so should Disneyland!

I agree that some manner of transportation is needed for these expansions. Preferably a People mover or Monorail system. But, both options do have some issues to fix 1st. 1) The Monorail shuts down for hours if the weather is too hot because it has no AC. 2) The People Mover would need to be better protected from the elements as well; most likely needing to be entirely enclosed with climate control. Additionally, the ride from the "Eastern Expansion" to the parks will have to travel over the public streets & businesses. The Sky Trams are the only option that don't have these issues.

Unfortunately, what is the most feasible option for facilitating guest movement between the parks and property for this new expansion are just two new overpass bridges. It preempts any ADA restrictions imposed, extreme guest population or overflow issues, and isn't a Peoplemover system which Disney seems vehemently against ever putting in their parks ever again for ridiculous and discriminatory reasons. They won't give us what we want. But they will give us what we need, if only to prevent negative feedback.

I'd be so down for 2 people movers, one in DCA and the other in Disneyland, and their sole purpose is to move people from the OG park to the forward expansion. That being said, where is everyone going to park? If they're getting rid of two parking lots and possibly the toy story lot, there is literally no more space to put people in. My only guess would be to make the toy story lot into a garage and don't go forward with a mini Disney springs. Homes, hotels, schools, and the convention center all surround Disneyland and there literally is no where else to put parking.

The only thing that bugs me about playing fantasy park planning is that right now Disney seems to be on a kick of cloning rides and lands outright, or at the very least taking all the “cool” parts and cloning them (two Galaxy’s Edges, or how as soon as we saw that Zootopia show art we all went “oh yeah the chubby cop is the animatronic because they’ve already got designs for him from China”) and I’m tired of it tbh. I like that parks are unique and it pushes me to see them all.

Perhaps scanning, isn’t an issue anymore. They could use facial recognition. Which is actually fairly easy to implement, and at the same time, they be able to rationalize cameras and monitoring. The other possibility is they scan a chip placed in your hand or your forehead

I just can't help the feeling that most of that 60B is going to get dumped into cruise ships, and comparatively little doled out to the parks. Oh, they'll get a few things... but i don't think Disney is as worried about Epic Universe and that DreamWorks park as they should be. The more crowded, expensive, and logistically convoluted Disney gets, the more people are going to look to their competitors. You can only coast on nostalgia for so long...

They just need to stop with these expansions already! They do nothing for crowd control since all they do is bring in more crowds. They need to get crowds out of those parks somehow while still profiting from them, and additional gates is how you do it. Why not just add the hotels and additional shops/restaurants on the west side, and a third gate at the east Toy Story lot? There’s plenty of room for such a park, and yes, having a people mover connecting that third park with the other two is a fantastic idea!

Hotels on property at Disneyland will NEVER be affordable. There is just too little space. As they use more parking space for attractions I'm just wondering where people will park? I think they should do another covert buy of property a few miles away, build massive parking structures and a HUGE elevated train, er um, I mean Monorail to move people to the park at high speed. What else are they going to do with their billions of dollars? Pay their cast members a living wage?

The biggest thing I hope for is that they stick to making the theming "transitions" make sense which is a real challenge (and something I think DW doesn't do as well lol). Galaxy Edge already kind of threw that off for me (and in an ideal world they would expand that). Since it appears to be near where adventure/frontier/new orleans square lands are I would love a newer pirates expansion kinda like an upgraded thing of what I think they have in paris. In the real world I kind of think they should make the whole thing a CA adventure expansion since that park to me still is lacking and maybe do like a westcot kind of thing. That way it isn't a third gate but is still something big and exciting. I just am praying that it is not avatar or that they keep big and tall people in mind lol as a lot of the newer DW things and Universal things don't work for me lol
