I love the innocence of putting zero thought into how the apparatus actually works. As a kid you just accept that machine works exactly as it shows. How does moving the strap a little bit turn it on and off? How does the strap going off the wheel and onto the axle prevent the machine from stopping? Why is the motor so powerful? Why does the scoop elevator ladle up sauce for no reason? It isn't basting anything, it just picks up the sauce and drops it on the other side. But none of that mattered, because as a kid in the 80's, that was some funny shit.

Actually Mark, February 10, 2020 will mark the 20th anniversary of Jim Varney's passing. Sad to say, Varney was a fairly heavy smoker in his lifetime and he was only 50 when he died from the same disease that took the life of my dad in November 1977 (he was only 54) : LUNG CANCER. ;-(
