Jim Varney doesn’t get the credit he deserves. I know not everyone was fond of the Ernest character, but Varney himself was an amazing character actor.

I first saw "Ernest Goes To Camp", as as 9 year old. Like 1987 or so. It wasn't until "Ernest Goes To Jail" that I realized this dude was real! Jim Varney had something the world will truly miss. It can be copied, but it's never the same.

I'm glad the TV versions insert the extra scene where we see Ernest did get that job promotion at the end. He got a slight shock from his computer because Bobby and his brother installed a new function to prevent the bank from being robbed. He tested out to see if he was magnetized, but he wasn't (yet), and then we see the metal filing cabinets start creeping up behind him, and he takes off yelling. I think that scene worked better at the end of the movie.

I always loved Jim Varney playing Ernest, since the commercials he did for various products, which led into the movies. But I highly applaud him for this movie, because not only is he playing Ernest which we’re used to, but he’s also playing bad guy Mr. Nash, who’s the total opposite. Playing two characters isn’t easy, it’s a challenge. And when you have to play more than 2 characters, that’s an even bigger challenge. Jim Varney played both characters so extremely well. Jim, I hope you are entertaining the angels in heaven, as you have entertained us with your time on this earth. Rest in peace, Jim Varney. I also love that dog, Rimshot.

I think it was because of how Nash landed, which would have been quite nasty falling headfirst.
@afriendofbean
@afriendofbean 10 ай бұрын
@@brianb.8295 That could be true but, Nash wasn't bleeding and if he really did bleed after falling headfirst, that would be a good reason for Ernest to say "ew." Plus, the moment Nash woke up from getting knocked out (he woke up very fast) as seen at 7:04, he didn't look like he was bleeding or have any cuts especially seeing the closeup of him at 7:33. Not only that, Ernest usually only says "ew" at something when he sees something gross and/or something gross gets on him but, there wasn't anything gross after Nash landed headfirst. (I'm sure after Nash got knocked out again at 7:44, he must have woken up with a bad headache unless the police put him on death row while he was still knocked out).

The ending here made it feel like a sad and/or confusing ending making it feel like Ernest died here since he fell on the floor (not shown here) but, most likely he only fainted which made it feel like he died since the end credits started right then and there. However, there was a deleted scene after this which showed that Ernest got the job as a bank clerk which he applied for and if that scene was shown, his fainting would show that he didn't really die.
@orbison

Most TV airings do show that extra ending, which was a nice button, right down to the final punch line of him being cured of his electromagnetic powers in all ways....except one (cough "file cabinets" cough)
@afriendofbean
@afriendofbean 10 ай бұрын
@@orbison Yes that's true. I have seen this Ernest movie on TV and it showed the deleted scenes from the TV. However, that one deleted scene showing that he got the job as a bank clerk also showed him getting electrocuted and then he put metal on his face making sure he didn't become magnetic where the metal didn't stick to him right away but then the metal file cabinets started chasing him where he ran off screen and the movie ended there.

Probably after 8:00, here is probably what happened if Ernest didn't faint: Warden: Men, cuff Nash up and take him away before he wakes up from being knocked out and have him strapped and put on death row before he wakes up. Men: Yes sir Warden, right away. (Cuffing and dragging Nash away). Warden: Mr. Worrell, I owe you a big apology for this misunderstanding thinking you were Mr. Nash. Ernest: It's okay Warden, I understand, it was hard for everyone since I looked just like Nash. Warden: Thank you for your understanding Mr. Worrell. I should have known better anyway since you and Nash have two different voices and Nash never wore a hat in jail but you always wore a hat. Ernest: It's understandable Warden. We all make mistakes. Warden: But don't worry Mr. Worrell. We are having Nash put on death row now so he will be dead and gone and we will make sure nobody escapes from the prison facility again. So if you'll all excuse me now, I have to get back to the Dracup Facility and help everyone and make sure Nash is dead. (Walking away). Mr. Pendlesmythe: Ernest, you got the job as a bank clerk. Charlotte, Chucky, and Bobby: Congratulations Ernest. Ernest: (Looking at the camera and smiling and movie ends).

@@AbrasiousProductions Thank you and yes, that would have been great if Ernest looks at the camera smiling breaking the fourth wall having a freeze frame. Regarding the spot in the dialogue of Mr. Pendlesmythe telling Ernest that he got the job as a bank clerk, there was actually a deleted scene after this scene of Ernest fainting showing that he got the job as a bank clerk working at a desk and got electrocuted at his desk and quickly double checked that no metal attached to him making him magnetic and at first none of the metal attached to him making him breathe with a sigh of relief and then a metal file cabinet chased him off screen with him running and the movie ended right there.

@@AbrasiousProductions Thank you. It would have been great if the director which was John Cherry made a dialogue like mine here for this Ernest movie only because it felt like Ernest died here showing him all burned up after getting blown up even though he only fainted. Seeing Ernest get electrocuted on this movie and not die show us watching that he didn't die but, seeing him all burned up after getting blown up and falling down and then fainting and the movie ends there feels like he died which also makes it feel like a sad ending to the movie. Otherwise if John Cherry was going to keep it like this of Ernest fainting, the next scene should have been kept of Ernest getting the job as a bank clerk which would show that Ernest didn't die but, it would be unknown if he got fired since in that scene he became magnetic.
