The couch was actually an homage to how they started - after they won the Sing Off, they lost their record deal and so went back to making YT videos from their old couch.... so in the video...started on the couch (the trio together and KO and Avi on the sides) went off into the stratosphere ...but then came back to the couch to show that they are still grounded even with all the success. I love how the trio are so close together on the couch at the end before they go back into the 'loungeroom'.To me the whole thing is just perfect. They do this live and it is exactly the same - no layering.

Mitch with the guitar solo on the megaphone was epic one of my favorite parts of this performance ❕❗

PTX said they waited years to cover this song because they wanted to get it "right." They were nervous to cover it, knowing how many diehard fans Queen and Freddy Mercury have worldwide. They wanted to make sure they honored the original, and I think they have. Great reaction! (BTW: I've seen them perform this live. It's just as amazing in concert)!

Yeah, perfection. I heard that Brian May said that this version was excellent. Apparently the megaphone was just a prop and was not needed for the vocal projection.

Little known fact, Brian May of Queen saw this video and liked it so much he sent the link to all their fans with the following words: "Best cover of our song I have ever heard. Enjoy." That tells you just how good it is!

Listen again and watch Scott during the "let him go" section. He sings with both sides so there are 3 voices on both parts... If you listen close you can hear 3 voices with one clipped short because he switches to the other part. And you can hear him singing a low bass harmony with avi on that side... This still amazes me every time. They sound so much bigger than 5 voices in that part of the song due to that clever use of adding a voice to start and then having him peel off early to come in on the other side... I think you kinda hear it too as they get off the couch and line up.... This part of the song is so complex!

No layering here. Just pure natural harmonies. With the Queen original a lot of dubbing and redubbing was done on the record hence it couldn't be performed live in concerts. Yes, Queen never performed BH live in its entirety. Whenever they get to the Scaramouche part, the band leaves the stage and the music turns to the recorded video. The PTX arrangement was done for the five voices. PTX performs this live all the time.

We all know how pentatonix loves to put their own touch to everything, but they said they didn’t want to do this cover until they could do the original justice. Lol, your expressions at the big moments. I agree that they did layer their voices sometimes, just as Queen did (Kevin can't sing and beatbox at the same time, for example). Also, Kevin said that in Mitch's "guitar solo," they manipulated his voice to sound electric (but Mitch had to sing those amazing riffs nonetheless). But none of that takes anything away from the fact that this is a marvelous performance. Kevin is brilliant in this arrangement, just brilliant. All of them were, really. Thanks for a great reaction!

😂 Kevin fell off the couch during the making of the video.. but wasn't hurt. They chose to have the couch moving down a road as a metaphor for their beginning (with their couch videos) and how far their career's taken them. In their more recent Evolution videos You'll see they're sitting on a couch just like they did WAY back in the beginning. Ode to the couch! Really fun reaction video! thank you so much. 💖

They did a great job, love the harmony, But again still follows the Queen style, just a little more modern, when you do that you get compared to Freddy. But my hats go off to them (they still were great). Only 1 person did it completely different & made it their own (litereley) & she was 13 when she did. No disrespect to them. I just think she did it better only for how original hers was. But I still think Pentatonix is an awesome band with lots of great skills & talent.

Just do yourselves a favor and relisten to it

Mitch does it the most, but many of the members can make their voices sound "electronic". . And LIVE, they complete all the parts, and nail them, and Mitch sounds just like it without the megaphone- that was actually thrown in as a "fun thing" to show who was doing the sound, not really for any major point within in the song.
@charlesturner36884 жыл бұрын

Queen's version has pre-recorded parts and of course instruments. PTX does not. They did the whole thing without instruments as Mitch's megaphone is just a prop. Watch the live version of PTX on stage and you'll see Mitch doing this without it. Kevin, the beatboxer, doesn't miss a beat. I prefer this version to Queen's anyday. They did homage to Queen though which was nice and homage to their past (couch where they used to do their videos) and with the couch moving forward is also a symbol of them going forward in their career.
